she fought for her rights? how and when? everything about her is portrayed in the media. When Obama became the president in 2008, everyone thought this was the great historical moment and a turning point of blacks in america. Look at now, 2014 the racial tension was greater than ever. everyone can't wait to see Obama leave office. historical indeed. fools will be fools

It says something about America when most of our youths hate going to school, loathe it really. Then this young lady is fighting for education so hard that when she gets shot in the face, she survives, and continues to advocate for education. My generation could learn a lot from her, and we're the same age.
@katieford1327
@katieford1327 9 лет назад
I think what (at least in my school) is the problem is that children don't realize what an education means. In my small town you really don't need an education, just a well-known last name. I believe why so many kids hate going to school is because they've no idea what life is like without one- how much more difficult it is.
@adambrassard6277
@adambrassard6277 9 лет назад
Most of the problem isn't the education itself, it's the public school system. The schools don't present the information in a way that makes learning enjoyable, for everyone at least. A lot of it is that the schools are run like a business and don't really care for the students, except the few good teachers. Another problem is that the society we are in tells us that it's wrong to be "nerdy," and getting good grades or actually paying attention in class equates to being "nerdy." To be honest though, I think it's more society's fault.

Captain_of_Solitude American children hate going to school because schools dont teach them anything. our entire education system is built upon test scores they dont care about us learning anymore. they teach us how to pass a test these days. thats why kids loathe school.

I am gonna confess something. I have heard about Malala before. I have been impressed able it what she had achieved even though she is the same age as me. I heard about her, been impressed by her and promptly forgot her. Recently, I had finished my high school and joined a ver good college. Said college arranged for a motivational speech by the IPS SilenderBabu who came from a very poor family and had achieved greatness. He asked us about who we think Malala is. A boy promptly answered that she was a girl shot by the terrorists. I may have forgotten Malala for a short period of time but I still felt offended for her. SilenderBabu then screened a short part of this speech. I was amazed by the bravery that she showed. Because being an introverted person, I would have been scared shitless to even stand before such a crowd. I was intrigued and wanted to hear the rest of her speech. That would is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

(Continuation) I am an Indian girl who was enrolled in one of the most prestigious school in my area. But I like most of my fellow youth, I disregarded the education offered to me because it was so easily offered to me and also the usual reason given by my fellow youth, "it's hard to study","its boring" etc. I hated going to school. But then as I listen to Malala's speech the only thing running through my mind is that, "I don't have those difficulties that my fellow sisters around the world have. Those girls WANTED education and they have been deprived of it whereas here I am, getting the education they are fighting for, and disregarding it." I have never felt so ashamed. Another thing that SilenderBabu highlighted in his speech is that if you want your life to change then it is YOU who has to work for it. He told us that many youth think that studying is hard. He told us a story of how some poor high school graduate students were sent into the sea as fishermen to work for income.
@ButILikeYouAndThatIsNotFake
@ButILikeYouAndThatIsNotFake 8 лет назад
+SwethaRockzz (continuation) He told us how they got stranded had to survive a week by drinking their own urine. Then he looked at us and asked us "so, what do you think is more hard, studying to develop your future or fighting to survive?". I think the answer is pretty clear. So today, I promise that I will study my hardest. I may not make a change for others but I CAN and I WILL make a change for my own future. I may not make a change like Malala or SilenderBabu but I will make sure their effort to better OUR own future does not go to waste.
@ButILikeYouAndThatIsNotFake
@ButILikeYouAndThatIsNotFake 8 лет назад
+SwethaRockzz Malala, you may not read this. But I hope you know that your voice IS heard and that it IS making a change. Not many people may read these lengthy comments but if you do and you are one of the people disregarding the education given to you, remember, it is YOUR future you are studying for and remember the thousands of people around the world who are not so privileged. Study hard. Make a difference. Even though it is in your own life.

@soul4rent2007
@soul4rent2007 9 лет назад
Ayk S Her veil is there to protect her from being subjugated..and forcing others to acknowledge her as a person when she speaks. it does not hold anyone back (not anyone who wants to be free in true sense) it never has it never will. and it sure as hell didn't stop her from winning a Nobel Prize. please learn about it first before you speak about any subject. this is why she is emphasizing about education so that people know and don't disrespect her choice (yes it is her choice to wear it) maybe you can learn to respect it.
@Kalebent
@Kalebent 9 лет назад
soul4rent2007 What? Are you kidding me? It forces others to acknowledge her as a person? So, if she doesn't wear it, she is not a person to be acknowledged? Oh, and it's her choice, too? Let me ask you: Do you think she would still have chosen to wear it if she were born in, say, America? It's not her choice, it's the choice of the cultural environment in which she was born.
@soul4rent2007
@soul4rent2007 9 лет назад
Ayk S I am in Australia and I confess I have failed to put on a vail as of yet...but my cousin (Born and brought up in AUSTRALIA) who although her mother doesn't wear one she "chose" to wear one so yes I think given the beautiful person she (Malala) is inside and out she would choose to wear it. it is part of our identity as Muslims (although I admit that oppressive men make women do may things) it is not the religion it self. and you know WHY you think she wouldn't wear a veil if she was"born in USA? because and i quote you directly "it's the choice of the cultural environment in which she was born" my mother chose to wear a veil as of 8 years ago and she still gets hell from airport security. yes YOU guys "oppress" people with your scrutinizing and judgmental eyes when they wear a veil or hijab thus making them uncomfortable, making them feel like they are doing something wrong. maybe you can learn to broaden your mind before you go all judgmental on other peoples beliefs maybe learn a little about the religion before you speak trash about it? I grew up in a Muslim country and never in my life did I experience any kind of oppression from my father or anyone. My mother wears a veil with out being told because that's what chose for her self and although she advice me all the time to wear one I was never forced not from my parents nor from my husband. I have however always suggested strongly to learn and to go for higher education so that I can see, learn and analyse for my self about different situation and NOT STEREOTYPE like so many others sitting in front of a tv receiving nothing but media propaganda.

Women getting equal rights, world peace, education for all, happiness, and hope. Those are all things that Malala spreads and hopes for. Wow! She is so regal, and noble. The way she speaks and holds herself is incredible; I would've thought she's descended from and brought up as nobility... And her good humor is adorable! She has a real flair for speaking to the heart, with a calm strength and power that is so pleasant to listen to, so convincing and real. So many lines of hers can be quoted, very sharp and clear. I hope she is successful in bringing more peace and more education to the world.

For me, I gather that she's absolutely greatful to her parents & so thankful to be born in Swat Valley despite the hardships. Also, she's not only a practicing Muslim, but she keeps on learning & recite the Holy Quran every day. You can learn a lot from this girl if you see her, just ask the right questions.

'Countries' don't create the problems, the people who RUN those countries are the problem. Don't believe Donald Trump or Vlad Putin are the problem, it is the people in the background pulling the strings who are to blame. Rothschild bankers, mega-corporations and wealthy oligarchy are the problem on this planet, not 'countries'. Countries are merely areas of land with borders agreed at international level. Have you ever seen 'America' or 'Russia' pick up a gun and shoot?

Poo Tube also, you seem like a conspiracy theorist am I right? Mega-corporations (which are not real, they're just corporations) depend on the government, it's not the other way around. There is also no wealthy oligarchy, if I were to become part of the 1% I wouldn't all of a sudden be teleported to a room where I control the world and if I were to get out of the 1%, what will they do? Delete my memories? There is no people pulling any strings and there is no such thing as the corporations you describe that control the world. You sir, are a lunatic.

And she seems to have had public speaking training also because she speaks like someone who has been giving speeches forever and she knows to repeat important points for emphasis. Not many people can speak like a professional speaker at 17.

+Ben Alexander - Her maturity comes from self experiencing the problem and also having full awareness of human rights. She is not trained in public speaking. With that Thrust behind her - public speaking is a small piece of puzzle. Many Pakistanis fall in this category. Their inventive work is not less than Malala's. City's spirits and structure is held together with people's innovation and will - with zero engagement of the Govt. She also represents that Birth face of A very young country - Pakistan (which is now disfigured in the recent past)

I love how proud her dad is, and it looks like this fight she is taking on is a piece of him. Listen only to her voice, and none of the comments politicians made/make on her behalf. She is saying what she means, and needs no assistance in voicing her opinion. Just seeing how strong she is since the videos of her being a scared girl in Pakistan, and now she is completely certain and comfortable in her opinion and what she believes in is so impressive and beautiful. The smile on her dads face says it all.

She really motivates me to take my geometry book and start doing some work. this girl is just amazing! I can't imagine beeing in her, and all those several children's situation. My heart is truly shattered by the stories of the children all over the world who are deprived of the right to be educated. When I first heard about Malala's story I was tremendously moved. I am 17 now, I look up to her and wholeheartedly wish I could help with her invaluable work. My goal is to become a human rights activist and to fight for people who are being threatened whenever they say "no" to the abuse of their fundamental rights, such as education. It also breaks my heart that there are so many talented, prominent young people that dream about going to school but they can't whereas in my privileged country, Poland, where most of the schools are free of charge, some kids believe that learning is some kind of punishment or at least a waste of time. I, myself, make the most of it that I can and such people as Malala prove that I am not wrong choosing to do it. That is why I came up with the idea to start a campaign that aims to teach elderly people English. The future will show how it all turns out but as for now, I am determined to engross in it, bearing in heart my admiration for Malala. I hope that one day I will have a chance to tell her how much of an inspiration she is to me...

This is an amazing speech, it is great that someone can rise from such trauma to having such passion for change. I particularly like her comparison of the cost of war to the cost of education. I think one educated citizen can do more for a county than hundreds of solders could do. I look forward to seeing what Malala accomplishes in the rest of her life, as she has so much more time to enact change.

It is so Wonderful, that a 17 years old girl knows how to improve the world and not just like the other teenagers who find time of taking selfies, finding a new trend for a minute of popularity and all that stuffs...even I, do the same thing, of just taking selfies and wasting my time not wandering that in other parts of the world there are still teenagers, kids and women who suffers greatly in lack of education. I have no idea that a teenage girl would be able to speak out her voice for a Big change! :) And I...coming from a Third World Country, people especially youngsters like me, must do something meaningful to others. We must care for others, whatever life status they have or culture they live. the World is not getting better. Respect! Peace!

taking a selfie does not mean that an individual doesn't care about what goes on in the world. I take selfies and do most things girls my age do, but I also am a feminist and I know a lot about gender equality, sexualization and sexism. However discriminating other 17 year olds for not understand things about the world, is not their fault at all. Which is exactly why people should be speaking out, so girls and boys do have an understanding. It's not that they ignore it, it's that they're not aware. Remember that.

Malala has been a beacon of light to change that view, and to make the western world realize that, like in other religions all over the globe, there are coherant people as well as fundamentalist, so the fault doesn't lay in the religion, but in the fundamentalists groups.

I can not believe all of the hate that is in this thread. This girl did a very brave thing and you can not get over YOURSELF of the color of her skin to see that she obviously is not for "building bombs" She is a young girl who had no say in where she was born all she wants is to learn EVERYONES human right and you have the nerve to deny her and others. Let me tell you if you are an American saying these God awful things about a girl who is fighting her countries rule like at one time we had to do as well then please leave America because that is not what we believe.
