when I obtained my 3rd mate officer license I was a skipper on board concorde plying Kuching and sibu. Then 2 years later I joined M.V Latangan as their 2nd mates and gradually became a captain of oil tanker sailing Bintulu , Singapore , US ,Australia and Shanghai .This video remind me of the day when I started off as a skipper
yeah.. me too.. im 3rd engineer on trade ship in the 80s.. from kuching to Singapore, Thailand.. but now i stay/live in usa (sweetwater texas usa) this vedeo bring me bring back memories ..
I miss all the boats plying between sibu n kuching. Concorde marine was one of them. Do u have photos of it? Another one was hoover marine. Now only left express bahagia to ply between sibu n kuching.

Great video ! Brings back happy memories of my own river trip over twenty years ago . It seems the terminal is miles from Kuching city centre . I recall a lively food court with reasonable beer prices above the pier in Sibu .Good health !
Great trip, I have done it twice and just finished doing it. I found it a very positive experience. Traveling in Borneo is very hard to beat and its affordable. The Regang River travel is a definite must .
Express Bahagia is the OG express boat for Kch-Sibu-Kch route..then got the Express Pertama...n once upon a time we had a hovercraft too in the 80s... pre-express boat, ppl travelled via cargo ships like Rajah Mas n Soon Bee...
.. and so, the journey ends, hopefully, for now.. May the river express boat will continue to ply the waters of the mighty Rejang , the South China Sea, and the Sarawak River for many many years to come!
The last time I took express boat from Sarikei to Kuching was around 25 years ago. The weather was so bad I slept almost the whole journey thanks to seasickness pill that I took or else I would lose everything that I ate that day.
I live in Sibu and I never travelled to Kuching by boat before. We usually drive to Kuching. How long did it took to travel to Kuching by boat? One day I wanna try that out. Looks fun!
About 4 and a half hours. It is an interesting trip, totally different from the one by road. The powerful express boat runs through the river, then into the ocean. It is a special feeling. Please go in a good weather, otherwise you will have to stay in the cabin. Thanks.
