I absolutely love this show. It came out when I was 17 and aired until I was 23. During that time I went from a high school kid to a pothead to a college student to a mom. I went from being on Malcolms side to being on Reeces side to being on Francis's aside to being on Lois's side. This show means a surprising amount to me.
The way that every character managed to be comically over the top but also relatable just goes to show how well written the show was. Thanks for sharing your story!
In my current stage of my life at the moment ive found myself relating to francis more since im at a stage in my life where im about to go out into the world alone
ive watched this show nearly once a year since 14 i find i learn something new each and everytime im gonna be 24 next month. Malcom in the middle has brought me sop much joy in this world
Also i'd like to hear your opinion on episode "If boys were girls" it's my favorite episode and it was very emotional at the end when Lois was just running away and realizing that "there's no escape"
@@aynpain Sorry I saw this so late! I actually really loved that episode too. I thought the ending was more about Lois realizing that it wouldn't make a difference if she had all girls because at the end of the day every family dynamic is going to have issues, and she learned to accept the family that she had because even though they were flawed, they still loved each other.
brilliant video. loved this show as a kid and i love it now as an adult. great retrospective, always glad to see more people appreciating this work of art of a show. subscribed
I almost exclusively watch old shows and movies I have already watched. I know every generation says the same thing - "TV, music and movies were better in my day", but honestly, modern media is a complete and utter mess.. Watching Malcolm in the Middle cannot be replicated by anything today. There may be better effects, complex plot lines, whatever, but this was just simple entertainment. I am sick of having The Message forced down my throat like I am on a casting couch... Just finished the whole video, this was good work man. Honest, fair and insightful. Well done. Subbed and liked.
Thank you! I think to some extent you're right. Every time period is gonna have shows, movies, books, games that are either timeless or perfectly encapsulate something from their respective time period. I personally think it's important to keep an open mind both for older and newer media as they both have a lot to offer, but I definitely find myself feeling nostalgiac a lot too.
Im borrrrred !! im borrrrrred !! Im itchy !! Im borrrrrred !!! Became a quote i use for the last 20 years when i actually am bored 😂😂😂 I love this show !
That moment when Francis snaps after finally getting the apology he always dreamed of from his mother Lois hit me like a ton of bricks. The exact same thing happened to me in early adulthood but even worse. I felt nothing but emptiness from the apology too and nothing was learned. The cycle has continued with my nephew and his grandparents. I haven’t had kids yet, (that I know of at least) but my sister has a son and he is being forced down the same wrong dark path.
Great video!! I really like the show too. Even though Roseanne got kudos for showing a poor family, I think MITM is a better show. For me, there isn't the whining that Roseanne has, and everyone is very relatable. No matter the situation or dynamic, the family is always there for each other.
Thank you! And agreed. I think the MITM was very ahead of its time in the way it handled its characters and situations compared to other shows that either tried to do the same thing or came out around the same time.
I just started watching Malcom in the middle but a show I’m always reminded of when watching is “The Middle” which is very similar to Malcom’s theme and both are great shows with amazing comedy
This is one of my favourite sitcoms too. I feel I should point out that while it was early, it was not the first show to invert the typical sitcom theme. There are plenty of others that do the same and are as good as this one. Married With Children came before it, and you may not realise it, but The Simpsons is a sitcom too, it's just an animated one. M*A*S*H doesn't have the family dynamic, but it's still a sitcom. There are probably others that came before these too, but I either didn't watch them or don't remember them. For shows that came after Malcolm, there is My Name Is Earl and Raising Hope. If you like Malcolm, you will probably also enjoy these other shows I have mentioned.
True, my wording was a little off. I'm familiar with most of the shows you've mentioned, though I haven't watched all of them. (Love Raising hope and MASH though). Thanks for the reccomendations!
