comedyhype.com - In a new interview with Sway In The Morning, Malcolm-Jamal Warner revealed that he and Eddie Griffin weren't friends in real life during Malcolm And Eddie. Instagram: @ComedyHype & Twitter: @ComedyHype_
Absolutely dats wat i thought i gained alot of respect for malcolm. I already had it for eddie dats my dude more like him than Malcolm jus i relate more to eddie but i like Malcolm tho
Most actors won't admit that. They all say "We became a family," knowing full well they just collected their check and went home. I appreciate his honesty.
They understood that CHECK...that's a common denominator. No different than working in a factory..we might not get along but we both here to get this paper. That was just being real.
I don't have personal relationships with any person I work with...I am nice, cordial, friendly, but I do NOT have any interest in any personal relations with any of my coworkers...that's just me
That's what it is! Both was professional about it and did work.. You don't have to like a person just to get to the bag with them.. I tell you what! They had great chemistry on set.. you can't ask for nothing more..
Uhhh so yall *m* gon act like yall dnt kno who df tony *mf baker is👀👀 *HMM* 👃 👃 feel evry piece of this *CRAM!!!!* 👃👃 *HMM* u gon suffer the *cramifications* of what yall just did here 👃 *hmm* 👃👃wtmfFUCK is wrong wit yall #tonybakecomedy *u goddamn right,,* feel evry piece of da *CRAM* 👃👃 *HMM*
Faith Kings The difference is, we don’t necessarily have to interact wit them to the degree Malcolm & Eddie did, or sell the notion that we are the best of friends to legions of ppl
Nah, if they were just coworkers no beef, he wouldn't say they didn't get along. He basically said without saying it that he thought Eddie was too ghetto. Eddie thought Malcolm was too bourgeoisie
They've both said that numerous times, but they both have always been very respectful towards one another about it. They've never bad mouthed each other.
Long story short..eddie felt like malcom didnt grind and the show was handed to him because of the Cosby's...and Malcom didnt like eddies hood ways.. Thats what i get from "2 different walks of life"
@John Edwards It still could of worked! A college educated man and a man from the hood living together making things work.. this should be a lesson.. we can get along despite our difference in life.. You may relate to Malcolm but I related more to Eddie..
@@PlayaP69 - The only one within the cast who received a good check was Cosby. Residual checks are not as lucrative as people who are not in the know believes. At best, residual checks can help put a little food on the table, keep a bill or two paid every month, or provide gas/transportation money during those non acting periods of a person's career....But that is about it. The bulk of the money goes to the studio then works it's way down to everyone else. Now, why do actors and actresses make a big fuss over insuring they get their fair share of the residuals.....I just mentioned it in the paragraph above; all actors and actresses have a dry period where they can't find work. Lastly, one thing people don't know is that residual payouts decreases every year a show is in syndication. What an actor or actresses receives during the first few years is greatly reduced by year six, seven, eight if the show is still on the air. If the syndicationed show is picked up on another network, there is a slight bump in payments, but even still, the allocations will not be the anywhere near what it was during it's first few years.
@@AllPro777 thats true! The world was actually better without social media lol. Plus I was a teenager in the 80s and there aren't any pictures I dont want on facebook or whatever lol. It was bad enough people wrote stuff in my yearbook and my mom saw it 😂😂
Correct!! They was professional about it! Why tear each other down when we both Trying to eat? If you don't like me cool, I will not take food out your mouth cause we are both grown men with families..
Honestly, I couldn't tell you where I rank Malcolm & Eddie among sitcoms, Black or otherwise. But I know one thing. That episode where Eddie pretended to be Prince is LEGENDARY! 😂😂😂😂😂
@stryfetc1 NAILED IT! Look at the Chicago Bulls during the 1996 to 1998 seasons.. Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen didn't even get along.. Hell, Dennis even admitted he didn't even talk to Michael Jordan.. He said he came there to not make friends but to win and party.. Only thing they ask him to do is show up at practices and games and play his part on defense that's it.. And he did that for them without no problems after..
Thats all you got of this video??? Watch it again!!! He said Cosby show showed blacks in a positive light.. and that new show was all about stereotype black man. Thats.. actually sad. But malcom.. needed.. a check..
...off topic (seemingly): it always amazed us how 'pretty' and 'petty' is just a single letter of difference. Superficiality vs Depth...which one better pays the bills? was probably *their* inner-question.
Word. Plus Martin had some drug problems in the past but it is common. At least they were professional enough to put their differences to the side. Ashame when people mess up a good thing bc of differences
If you look at it really, that was a part of the tension in the way the show as written too, they were friends and roommates, but Eddie got on Malcolm's nerve's all the time. They really had like a vibe of cousins or brothers more, somebody you don't necessarily like, but you have that connection/bond with and you're always around.
At the end of the day it a job, and so many TV shows white or black have had the same issue...You do what u do to make it work for the audience...The audience is what keeps u employed
No, it was not the entire cast that did not get along. It was mostly JJ (Jimmy Walker) that could not get along with the cast, or did very little communicating with his co-stars. The father did not agree with the foolishness of the JJ character. He felt the character was a buffoon and he needed to grow up. The network disagreed. So John Amos' character was killed off. Michael was very young on the show, so it was never about him.
Brian Stone it was money and how the writers glorified the buffoon jj’s character on the show! That show had good ratings and got paid a lot of money! Why shouldn’t he ask for more money? Plenty of white people did it, Farrah fawcet , Suzanne Somers ect
Sometimes personalities clash. The important thing is mutual respect and common sense. Very glad to see these guys were intelligent and mature enough to make it work. I'm a fan of both actors and I enjoyed their show.
When was this in the 90’s never mind I was playing sports in high school I didn’t watch much tv until I went to college... I thought this show started in the 2000’s. That explain the gaps of my tv watching.
I don't see why!! To my knowledge, no such network as WPN ever existed! Because before the late 60's into the 1970's; All the networks was pretty much that!
I can believe it.... Lamont and Rollo didn't get along in real life ...Even Jimmy Walker mentioned he Esther Rolle and John Amos weren't close at all as well... 💯💯
Anyone who thought that weak and forgettable show was great has missed a lot of shows. The writing was weak and so was the comedy. Great was Sanford & Son , or Blackish , or Roc to name just a few. Man O War must be very young.
They didn't not like each other but they didn't necessarily love one another that's very common. In people's everyday life especially with our co workers were associates but not best friends. But they weren't enemies I respect these 2 for their maturity unlike some celebrities like gabrielle union & vivica fox who were competing against each other because Hollywood intentionally try to divide black actors/actresses into becoming enemies making them compete against booking gigs etc. But malcom & Eddie were "woke" back then they stuck together for the culture regardless if they had a difference of opinion. They stuck together.
From the outside looking in, it seems like they wouldn't have gotten along anyway. They were completely different. Eddie is raw and honest and Malcolm seems more reserved.
Najee Nixon exactly that's obvious and we watch malcom say that in this clip. But when your open and not being closed minded 2 people from 2 completely different worlds often make the best of friends. But I guess back then 1 of them was being overly closed minded. However their respect for each others differences is commendable
They weren't being "woke" hate that played our term btw lol. They were trying to pay them bills that's it lol. But both were professional and made it work for four years.
Your right! NBC shut it down it was too sexiest occurring to there standard's. But my delimea is why are black people with money throwing each other underneath the bus!!!
Yeah Malcom seems like the type of dude where he’s smug. Don’t surprise me, Cosby was notorious for downing comedians for raw humor and carried himself like he was holier than thou. He picked up a lot of those traits I assume
@@showtimesportsmedia6906I think u are grasping at straws.. Malcolm was his own person. A.) He didn't have to take the show he could of passed on it and let somebody else played the role...Nobody was forcing Malcolm to do the show...However there seems to be a divide in the black community...Everybody black experience is different...If you from the hood and came from nothing you have a different attitude towards a black middle class person and vice versa.. I say if he felt that way he should of never did the show point blank!
Being from the 'hood' does not make you more 'real' or better as a person. I believe the two were like oil and water. Malcolm learned from some of best by working on the Cosby Show and Eddie learned from his own experiences throughout the years.
@Jay Bee - You go where work is. Funny you did not mention Malcom has put in work behind the scenes over at Nickelodeon.....The second fiddle to Disney!
Can't expect for a hood dude from Kansas City who will say and do anything he feels. Opposite to a guy with a Cosby mentality and conclude them to be the best of friends. Though giving their history from Eddie's standpoint you would never had or grasped this knowledge. Still a great show though.
That's what makes work.. A hood dude and a college dude making it work together.. That's how it supposed to be! Working together to get things done to get paid..
Dyum! Even when Malcolm Jamal Warner doesn’t particularly vibe with someone he still keeps it classy. He is very much what black men should aspire to be. Black men need to follow the lead of the classy black men. #Obama #RussellWilson #BorisKodjoe #MorrisChestnut #MalcolmJamalWarner
Being classy is saying nothing about your relationship like Eddie did not talk like you came from two different lifestyles I know plenty of people who came from different lifestyles and they get along just fine believe me that has nothing to do with getting along unless one thinks he's better than the other so the class goes to Eddie for not even mentioning their relationship off set
It blew my mind when i learned that the cast of GOOD TIMES were not friends or even cordial to each other. Ester Rolle tried to block Ja'net DuBois from getting the part of Willona. Jimmy Walker tells the story in an interview.
Demond Wilson (Lamont Sanford) and Nathaniel Taylor (Rollo) actually didn't have a cool relationship off camera either. Mr. Wilson mentioned in an interview that Mr. Taylor actually didn't like him. From watching the show as a child, I would have never guessed.
Nathan Taylor was Redd Foxx's guy before Sanford and Son and after I wonder if Fox wanted to have him play Lamont and the producers refused went with Wilson
@@krlm2280 Like 2 days ago, I actually read about Taylor being Redd's guy before the show. But that's a good point you made. Demond wrote a book called 2nd Banana. It's the memoirs about him and Redd Foxx doing Sanford and Son. So it may contain something about Nathaniel Taylor in it too. I plan to get the book soon.
I respect both of them because they both got great experience as actors! In the industry, you got to show mutual respect to one another in the professional way!!!!!👍👍👍👍
This is sad...but this is real "LIFE" the truth has to be told! much respect to both of them "Eddie G." AND "Malcolm Jamal W." may their careers get better.....West Philly Salute!!!
@@faith2xxx nah, I knew something was off from jump. The energy was just off between them and she always looked either annoyed or apathetic. And he just seemed toooo, I don't...
It always amazes me that folks watch videos or read articles of subjects they are not interested in just to make juvenile, simple minded comments instead of watching things they actually like. I guess you folks just like wasting your time.
For some reason I vaguely remember hearing about them not liking each other back when the show was ending. Either way they didn’t let it get in the way so kudos to them and Eddie’s “Sandford & Son” song will forever be a classic tv moment! 😂
This is the classic example of two individuals who were, because of their different backgrounds and interests, colleagues but not friends. However, it shouldn't be twisted. Warner and Griffin are/were not enemies. This was more a Kareem/Magic relationship than a Shaq/Kobe relationship.
William Betts : You clearly didn’t grow up in the 1970’s. Malcolm & Eddie wouldn’t even be close. *1970’s* Sanford & Son Chico & the Man Good Times The Jeffersons Welcome Back Kotter Barney Miller What’s Happening That’s My Mama Baby I’m Back WKRP in Cincinnati All in the Family (brilliant show!) Note: I can’t list Different Strokes or Facts of Life, even though they were good shows for their time. *1980’s and 1990’s* The Cosby Show A Different World In the House Out All Night Wayans Brothers Family Matters Living Single The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire Moesha Married With Children Martin *2000’s* Eve One-on-One Half & Half My Wife & Kids All of Us The Parkers Girlfriends The Game (Seasons 1-3 & 5-7) Meet the Browns House of Pain Love that Girl Black Ish Why Did I Get Married These were the best. Like a few of those listed above, Malcolm & Eddie was a decent show, but not a great one.
@@DeCurtaRican 1st, I was talking about my favorite list. 2nd, Moesha, out all night, in the house and married with children can definitely be taken off the list. Eddie G is a legend! Show that man some respect
As I look back at Malcolm and Eddie 1-10 I give it a 6 Didn’t like the cast And Malcolm still reminded me of Theo his swagg didn’t change at all When Carlton went to In the House his swagg actually changed...But Eddie made the show but he couldn’t do it all on his own so it got a 6
Ralo was Redds dopeman, Ralo was blessed by Redd bcuz of that an I'm guessin here but if you a serious actor an a co star an the cokeman roll up get a part an get paid as much as you ,fucc dat
Malcolm never thought he was better than Eddie, he just didnt like the fact that all these shows are stereotypical, angry black man, struggling black man, funny dancing black man, hes what a black person should be educated, well spoken, and professional.
@@edwardcashh924 That doesn’t explain the relationship between them two. In addition, he was on the show for 4 years or so? Why did he stay so long if he didn’t like that image? 🤷♂️
@@traderhines76 like he said, they both understood "the check" and when no one else is offering you a role of the intellectual black man in movies or shows then what?
@@edwardcashh924 You brought up Malcolm was mad because he didn’t like the fact that all those shoes were stereotypical. I still don’t understand what that has to do with THEIR relationship. As far as the type of shows that he prefers not being offered? That his concern and not mine.
Malcolm was boujie, and Eddie was more streetwise and ghetto! The epitome of how art imitate's life, on and off the TV. show set. That's why the show was a success, two polar opposites; Eddie can do stand-up comedy, but Malcolm need that sitcom to get paid...lol 😊😁☺
It's amazing when I read about shows I loved from the 70s and early 00s how the actors/actress didn't get along. It's amazing how the chemistry was strong enough for the show.
They were cool and I loved the show. It shows us that you don't have to be best friends to play best friends and you can still succeed. These. two had a successful sitcom together without all the cat fighting .
But here's the thing Malcom and Eddie wasn't that stereo typical I mean two brothas that became bosses what's wrong with that now they were right with the behind the scenes politics and how it started to fall off with no real ending when it shut down.
I remember that one MAIN episode where it showed their differences and they didnt get along. One spends alot and is wreckless, the other is cheap. I dont know the name of it but that's one of my FAVORITE episodes...
I loved the show because it was two guys I enjoyed and both were straight. They represented the things I grew up around . I live in Chicago and had friends who represented that strong friendship.
I can see how they would have creative differences. Malcolm had a different upbringing...attending private schools around lots of white kids, receiving classical training, working with and rubbing noses with the Hollywood elite since childhood, etc. Eddie's beginnings are more humble. He spent his adolescence in Compton being reared in a working class family. Eddie probably wanted the comedy to appeal to working class blacks (like Martin, Bernie Mac, Def Comedy Jam, and Comic View did) , while Malcolm probably thought that was "Chitlin Circuit" material, and wanted it to appeal to white folks. Malcolm may be the bigger star, but Eddie makes a great point about white writers. When I watch a lot of modern prime time shows, the Black characters are such big cornballs that it's cringe-worthy (i.e. the comedic Black token who goes overboard to smile hard, crack jokes and be raceless in an effort to make white folks comfortable..from the timbre of the character's speech to the bland jokes).
THIS one, blows my mind. I absolutely LOVE Malcolm and Eddie!!!! In real life, and, on screen. Shows you what great actors that they are, there is NO sign of this, at ALL. And, of course, I go STRAIGHT to watching episodes of Malcolm & Eddie, love Nicolette's, lil sexy self.
I hate to say this now because I've never said it before seeing this RU-vid post. But I always thought their friendship was awkward on the show. Malcolm seemed dulled out. Like he didn't want to be there to me. It crossed my mind that he was upset that this was a definite step down from the Cosby Show but I was happy that he was still working at that time. They were like 2 totally different people living different lives ON THE SHOW. I'm not saying I knew there was a problem. I'm just saying that this is the reason why I DIDN'T like the show.
@mr burnzinoneup watch Eddie's vlad interviews. It came back to Malcom and Eddie having to take those scripts into their hands in order for them to do the show.
@mr burnzinoneup Not even sure why I'm responding to you, but here goes. It was completely and utterly unrealistic, asinine, white privilege and arrogance for them to attempt to write a show starring 2 Black men and not have the decency, respect and professional empathy to hire Black writers. You can respond however you like, but I've said my piece.
12 white writers on a black comedy show is problematic and I can see why they would be frustrated. I hate to say it but if there were all white writers on The Cosby show it would not be surprising at all. It was aimed at a more universal audience and it's a major network running it. But UPN was "supposedly" black owned, so I'd expect at least half the writing staff to be black. I guess that was giving UPN too much credit.
@@jorollenola8320 upn was white owned, they sold it when it became big, and in turn it birthed cw, which morphed into nothing but white shows. That's how black artists are used, over and over. Welcome to systematic racism, this way please...
