I remember “ wagging” off school to queue for tickets for this game. Just in front of us in the queue were a number of our teachers This was when the FA Cup was magic and every club played their strongest team.. There were 46000 on for this game. The Geordies were there in huge amounts and the atmosphere was the best I’ve ever known. The replay at St James Park finished 0-0 in front of a full house of over 50000 and the second replay ar Elland Road had over 42000 on. We lost 2-1 in that game but those three games will stick in my memory until the day I die. The crowds were fantastic and in the days of mindless hooliganism there wasn’t a hint of trouble. The Geordies showed what magnificent supporters they are and I will never forget that. The FA Cup means nothing now and it’s a real shame when you look back on games like that.

Glossy memory that, at the second replay on boarding the train in Leeds back North the Police walked down the train telling everyone to get on the floor as the windows will be coming in after we leave the station, Leeds hooligans.

How great to watch a fantastic match with thousands of supporters enjoying it with loads of goals and no interventions from VAR ruining goals and goal celebrations. The way football should be....I wish I was old enough to see Supernac play in the flesh....my dad's hero

Tommy Cassidy could thread the ball through the eye of a needle. He was a class act like Terry Hibbitt. Supermac had some good players around him in his time at Newcastle and the club really should have won something in the mid 70's

As a Wanderers fan I had the joy to be there on the day along with the other 46000 plus at Burnden Park including thousands of Newcastle Fans. The best game I ever attended in my life. The replay at St James Park had a huge crowd also and I was at the second replay at Elland Road, which has over 40k in attendance too. What an amazing tie which Newcastle just won eventually by one goal just beating the team from a lower division.

I am a Bolton fan. I was 7 when this game took place and was at the game with my parents. In fact I joke that it is my Mum you hear just after McDonald kicks the ball before it flies into the net for his 2nd goal, our seats were just below the tv gantry on the stand roof and just behind the lower camera and the gantry had a sound effects microphone hung down from it. My Dad went to both replays. I remember going to bed that night but being woken up later on so I could watch the highlights on Match of the Day that night.

I was there too, sat up in thee new stand, aged ten. I've been telling people for years about Macdonald's goal. Never seen a better one. I remember there was a momentary stunned silence before the place absolutely erupted. I remember Frank 'Wanky' Worthington got a lot of stick from the crowd too, due to him making a comment in the newspaper that he was better than Macdonald.

Leicester at home, without doubt. My memory is Irving Nattress from the right cross field ball Supermac didn't break stride and just unleashed a screamer from way out of the area, at the Leazes End and yes no cameras! Great photo in a subsequent programme, with the net bulging and the keeper still taking off.

I was there for that goal, the best I've ever seen. Such a pity it wasn't televised. You had to be there. You're right, it was a cross from the right by Nattress and the goalie got his hands to it but couldn't stop it. What a memory.

Malcom Macdonald scorer of all the goals in England's 5-0 win over Cyprus at Wembley in an European Championship qualifier in 1975. He could have added more to his England caps had it not for Sir Alf Ramsey and later on Don Revie.Though noted for his scoring prowess for Newcastle Macdonald evidently did not quite fit in with the England national team. And with Ramsey and Revie he won just a few caps but always be remembered for the five goals against Cyprus.

What I meant was the only cockneys fans have a problem with are those running the club from London. Jiminez and Wise (Mike Ashleys chums nontheless) were in charge of transfer policy yet do not come to SJP or see the players, therefore cannot possibly see where the team needs strengthening.Players like Milner were sold behind Keegans back and Wise Buys brought in who Keegan knew nothing about.Keegan quit because when he signed the contract to return he was told he would have full control.

Ashley clearly stabbbed Keegan in the back when he gave Wise and Jiminez transfer control-jobs for the boys as it were.Ashley clearly didnt trust Keegan and had only made a puppet manager to appease fans, whilst his own men would effectivley run the club.Keegan was obviously not going to stand for that and neither were the fans.Cockney mafia was the term used as we want the club run from SJP, not faceless suits 300 mile away.Supermac is a cockney but he is loved because he did great things here.
