In 1975 Malcolm McDowell had made the film Royal Flash. His most famous film to date was then Clockwork Orange, this as well as others, is discussed in the interview. In fact it's an interview that almost didn't happen. We had the programme scheduled for London-wide transmission over the ILEA Channel 7 cable network and then we got a phone call asking to cancel ! However we managed to get it back on track.
This version of the interview has had the Clockwork Orange film clip removed, due to a copyright claim after some 8 years of it having been uploaded onto RU-vid. Oh well...

He’s a very attractive man and when he got older, he really opened up with his great sense of humor. I really enjoyed all his movies. He’s a fantastic actor.

You can tell a difference in McDowell in this interview vs later ones and it shows how much potential he had and how he was able to use that in later life. He is a very smart and down to earth person and that is conveyed in this interview (and a lot of the other interviews he did during the 1970s) how ever he is slightly dead pan (like he has confidence but he hasn't allowed it to yet blossom) where as in his later interviews he is better able to express himself and actually show how much of a great sense of humour he has. Malcolm McDowell in my opinion is one of the best actors who ever lived, sadly he never entered the A list status like a lot of other actors do (such as Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt). Really after A Clockwork Orange and the Mick Travis trilogy (okay maybe just If....) McDowell's place in the spot light has waned to pretty much bit parts and B movies. Something I would love to see is McDowell taking on comedy roles because he is a very funny man, as seen in some of his later interviews

I wonder if you've seen Mozart in the Jungle? I like that show, and McDowell is with no doubt the greatest thing about it. He gets to play out a very serious yet very funny conductor - wherever he goes he can't shake off Beethoven!

Brilliant actor and brilliant film, a ⏰ 🍊. Love his interviews as well. Such a precocious, mature actor at that age, indeed.

He's an amazing actor. Just an incredible one. And judging by this and other interviews, he is a very smart person. It is not surprising that he aged early: he has the eyes of a wise old man already at this young age (and, just in case, drugs, if they have anything to do with this, they are a consequence, not a cause) ... And he has the manners of a very nervous and closed person. He learned to behave like an actor in interviews much later, when he no longer needed to play great roles in films. Anyway, he had already proved everything to everyone. And let him just be happy and live for 120 years.

0:19 That is the best line to start any interview with, not only is it very funny but it's also very correct. Your a legend Malcolm.

To me the film was saying this is what will happen if we don’t get our shit together. But it did it in an entertaining way that I never expected before I saw it. Two things stood out for me was the direction of Kubrick and the performance of McDowell. McDowell was full of life and humor. Was courage’s and fearless. Charismatic and intelligent. Qualities we all admire but it was expressed through a dangerous character.

18:11 and that movie was “Aces High” a decent WW1 air combat movie with a hint of anti-War added inside.

From the first time I saw it, upon it's US theatrical release, I thought C.O. was a black comedy and social satire. Malcolm is a terrific actor and a humble intelligent guy with a quick wit and great sense of humor. (Been watching all his interviews) One of the greats who hasn't always been given great parts (of late) but gives his 100% for every role.

seems like A Clockwork Orange is a comedy movie but not to me. Ik some comedy movies are Rated R like Movie 43. But all the violence and rape and nude and all this crime seems like more of a drama than a comedy but it still a masterpiece. Its very impossible that a Rated R movie would use classical music like A Clockwork Orange
