yeah. I honestly think this is spot on. Malcolm is the greatest rock and roller the world has ever known. In some rocking less is more way..I really believe that.
The way he speaks about Angus, being a hot player, saying that people don't really get him or his playing... I mean, Malcolm was THE MAN. Such a tinny fella, delivering TONS of rock...!!
Have a listen to Malcolm's lead guitar playing on songs like "Show Business" and "Soul Stripper". He was just as good, if not better, than Angus. But both incredible.
This is the most important AC/DC interview imo, not least because the founder and most key member of the band explains in black and white the difference between Rock and Rock N Roll...what the band is all about and the reason their sound is instantly recognisable. You also get to see first hand the value of the playing style/relationship between the brothers.
Didn't know Malcom personally but I shed a tear privately when he passed. What he contributed to this band was just incredble. Happy to lay the foundation for Angus' flair.
I love when Angus was interviewed and asked how he felt about being the best guitarist in the world… & his response instantly was “I’m not even the greatest guitarist in our band!” Talking about his brother 😢❤ two of the greatest ever!
I love Malcolm and miss him like he was a family member. He's the GOAT of rhythm guitar and the most selfless great man and much love to anyone here also in admiration.
I truly agree. Malcolm Young was/is so underrated. Many see him as the rhythm guitarist for AC/DC but he was so much more that that. He was THE sound of AC/DC, the unsung musical genius behind it all. RIP Malcolm 💕
@@organiccountrylifeswing is when two quavers (eighth notes) are played as a crochet (quater note) followed by a quaver in a triplet pattern. This means that you play one note, wait a bit longer that what is written which will be straight, and then play the second note shorter. So you get a slightly longer note followed by a shorter note, Phil is a master at this on the drums. Hope that helps
Malcolm praising Angus is awesome and needs to be said. We often hear interviews from Angus on how great Malcolm is (and he is) but he's super humble about his own playing. Malcolm is right. Angus has yet to get his just dues as a player. He gets it as a preformer and I think his showmanship often overshadows how great he is and what's coming out of that guitar. To me, Angus is like a SRV, only instead of the blues it's rock n roll. He has the same type of improvising skills where it's as if he's an open vessel and has the ability to tap into a current that very few people reach and it comes out of him naturally. Angus was a prodigy. His vibrato and choice of notes is unmatched. I find him better and way more enjoyable than these technical nonsense shredders. Just listen to Bad Boy Boogie from If You Want Blood. His vibrato and the way he controls the feedback is hauntingly jarring. Even a guy like EVH says one of his favorite albums is Powerage. Angus's solos fit the song like a glove. It weaves naturally into the song and is just another part of it. It never feels separate from the music. The chemistry between Mal and Angus is unmatched. I personally think AC/DC perfected what rock n roll is and took it to it's limits. You can't go harder than AC/DC and still remain a rock band. They're more aggressive than most metal bands. That's why they share a gigantic fan base across the board. AC/DC are an entity entirely by themselves and respected by almost everyone.
Malcolm Young was/is so underrated. Many see him as the rhythm guitarist for AC/DC but he was so much more that that. He was THE sound of AC/DC, the unsung musical genius behind it all. RIP Malcolm 💕
@@toolbox5226 he knew how good he was, there`s no doubt but the thing about the guys from the band, they never bragged or showed off. They all keep it to themselves
Phil Rudd has no need to ‘ defend ‘ the way he plays. But, as a real musician, he’s well aware of what he wants to hear, and that no one else can or does.
Since I first discovered this band, Malcolm always fascinated me. and as I grew to love them, I realized how right I was to love him. listening to him talk about Angus, and how people will one day see how good he really is, just makes me think, and feel bad, that so many are doing that with HIM now, since he passed everywhere you see credits and praise to him, for his spectacular, one-of-a-kind musicianship and sheer genius. He would've never thought HE would be the one getting seen for what he really is Rock In Peace, Mal! Thank-you!
Malcolm was to AC/DC what Steve Harris is to Maiden. It's their vision and expectations of the guys around them that makes these bands great. They lead by example.
I always back to this video to remember how much I love AC/DC, not just for the music.. I love how much Malcolm admires and carry his brother from the beggining, to the end of his days. Malcolm was the real brain in the band, a real leader, the most of the times in the shadows at the stage supporting his young brother, and always carrying his back. It brakes my heart when I think how much Angus should miss him. The most beautiful brotherhood in a Rock and Roll band.
Angus would clearly knows malcolm capability in marketing line for not hesitating to fire band manager which angus would think twice to do such unlikely task for average people
The more I listen to AC/DC, the more I appreciate how hard they are to emulate. They play simple songs with the most expert execution. You can’t copy Phil Rudd’s groove!
malcolm was and still is my favorite rhythm guitarist of all time ,simple riffs ,but somehow no one can reproduce the exact same sound he had ,and just gotta respect the fact the he also stuck to it no matter how music had evolved over the years ,he stayed true to what he loved so much till the very end ,the guy is legend ,RIP Mal \m/
Right..AC/DC is a band that I would.knoe right away even if the song didn't have vocals and I never heard it before. Nobody has their sound and groove..Songs like D.T.and Chase the Ace are instantly recognizable as AC/DC. It was the Young brothers creation. Malcolm and Angus are the greatest rock guitar duo in the history of the genre. I like how they say that there really are only two giant rock n roll bands today. AC/DC and The Stones, and AC/DC bring something else entirely.
Malcolm young is the rhythm master, he makes his gretsch produce the most heavenly tone, makes it look easy but it sure as hell ain't, rest in peace malcolm young, your a absolute legend
He's so right. It's the 'swing' that they have that sets them apart from other rock and metal bands. Malcolm' rhythm guitar was the backbone and glue that held it all together.
Mal was a much smarter guy than many people gave him credit for. He certainly had a razor-sharp vision for AC/DC from the start, and it worked like a charm. Angus and Mal together were the no-bullshit team that made AC/DC the global success it became. Of course, having Bon out the front was an Ace up the sleeve- but I think there was a lot more to their steady rise to fame and fortune than dumb luck alone. No-one gets to the top and stays there without having a brain in their head! RIP Malcolm- leader of one of the very best rock bands that ever existed. "-)
Us fans know how smart Malcolm was. While Angus (and Bon at the time) may be the face of the band and the main attraction, it was established that Malcolm was the brains behind the band. He came up with most of the riffs. He was the silent leader.
That is so cool! I have seen them now on their pwr up tour, but I wish I could have seen them with Bon, or the back in black line up. But I was born 2006, so that would not be possible😢 They were still good and the new guys did very well, but I still wish that at least Phil would have been there
He was not just a great rhythm guitarist, but also an incredible lead guitarist. Listen to his lead playing on songs like "Show Business" and "Soul Stripper". I think he just preferred being in the background doing his riffing. He played lead on four songs on the first album, "High Voltage" (Australian version). I prefer his style a little more than Angus, though I love Angus as well.
Rip my brother in hard real rock.. Society will never have another era of music like we had when Malcom was doing it with his brother and bon. Brian did great for three albums.. Rock n roll singing kills the pipes ask Ann Wilson. Man we were lucky to be alive for the 60's to the 90's. Everything repeats now.. Not a bad thing we have some killer bands out there but the record companies died because bands got sick of being fucked over
About Phil Rudd: It's hard to listen to the records AC/DC made without him. Their other drummers were good no doubt --- Chris Slade might have been better overall. But for me, it's all about a band's sound and how the different subjective elements come together to create something signature rather than talented people just playing together. As Malcolm said, Phil is the 'real sound' for this band --- And after Brian came aboard, all the elements were in place for a band that very few since have been able to match, let alone beat.
Malcolm laid down that solid bedrock to the soundtrack of our lives. It's A Long Way To The Top could easily be Australia's official national anthem! 👍
To hear them talk with such honesty in a totally relaxed way... Only cements the idea that with their careers they are truly masters of their art.... No flashy gimmicks, no heirs or graces just rock n roll music for rock n roll fans... RIP Bon and Malcom you are so missed ❤🤘
Malcolm's playing was so good, he always made me think that all the guitar riffs were coming from Angus. How many other Rock'n'Roll guitarists can you point to that have had that kind of ability?
Thats a very interesting insight... Rock vs. Rock and Roll. I've often tried to pinpoint exactly what it is that makes their shit just make you want to MOVE! Of course it's everything working together... but the that subtle difference in rhythm Malcolm mentions. Maybe that's the simple difference!
Malcolm Young is a legend of rhythm guitar ......the frankensteined Guitar (he took 1 part out the electric receivers) Made the guitar sound special ! He was perfect with Angus.
Malcom and Edward Van Halen were the best of friends . We didn't find out until after Edward died. Why ? Because it's none of your business . Sammy Hagar can't sell multi-platinum solo albums like he used to since he quit Van Halen . Why ? Because he lost respect from many of his fans for ratting out on his friends . You don't rat out in your friends . Captain Candyass did .
An interviewer asked Angus what it was like to be one of the best guitarist in the world, he said he's not even the best player in his band.... Big bro Malcolm
Will considering that this is my favorite band I can say that Brian Johnson was blessed by Ron Scott to be the new lead singer and that this whole band should all die together as one band it is what it is God bless
It’s so great when these great bands are able to leave their mark on RR, like they just get it and to hear them talk about how they get it , just so cool 😎
One true emotion that comes through with all the ac/dc interviews is the commitment to keeping their sound real and unique. I love that about them. I play along to Malcs rythm guitar, it sounds easy, but he put a lot of effort into their tunes. It freed Angus up to strut his stuff. I miss Malc. Very sad that he ended up like he did. But I do admire the band for carrying on his legacy, he definitely would appreciate that. Rock in Peace Malcom. X
Phil is the man, but Chris Slade left his own legendary mark on the band. Too bad they can't have two drummers because it's hard to choose between the two. haha
