Our boy dog gone crazy on day 12 (day 1-11 he didnt bother about the girl at all). And I mean crazy like very crazy (very similar to Cole first days back home). Panting a lot, not sleeping, not eating, winning. Amazing how the female hormone can do ! We dont have other home we can put the dogs so we had to keep them together under the same roof. We tried your cleaning the girl's bum technique, and it works quite well. The boy dog calm down a bit. Thank you for sharing this video.
My dogs don’t do any of this during heat. My boy doesn’t whine and my girl doesn’t growl at him. He does try to mount and will starve himself for 3 weeks which is crazy sometimes even 5 weeks he will only eat 2 full meals.
Thank you so much for this video! There’s so little information on living with intact dogs on the internet that this was really a goldmine for me. We have our first family dog and she recently went through her first heat but not being able to tell if it’s truly over has really been nerve wrecking for me as we are in no position to have a surprise litter right. It’s been about six weeks since she first bled which stopped three weeks ago, but we visited with family that has an 8 month unneutered male and he was all over her the whole time. She was growling and even barked and snapped at him a couple of times, but I was under the impression that if she was done, male dogs would no longer be interested. The caveat would be that we haven’t bathed her since she stopped bleeding. He did get at least one good hump in, but I think I caught him too quickly for anything to have happened. It was while she was eating and I think she was just sick of fighting him off. Now I’m wondering if I should be worried though 😬 her vulva seems to be normally sized but her nipples feel a little more fleshy than they used to be. I really don’t see how she could possibly be pregnant as she’s only been with puppies under 6 months and this same dog for about 30 seconds so we could see how he behaved (he jumped on her immediately, but she had a pull-up on and was on leash so we were able to stop it before anything happened). How can you tell when the girls are really in the clear? I’ve tried the flagging test and I can’t tell if she’s just responding to a good feeling or actually flagging. Am I worrying about nothing?
Three weeks and it should really be done. Her vulva should not be swollen or any discharge. A young intact male might try to breed an intact female even is she wasn’t in heat. Some females go through false pregnancies and that might be some of the signs you see. Usually a first heat is smaller and not as intense as when they are fully mature. However she really shouldn’t be interacting with any dog that is not fixed while she is in heat. Sounds like you are in the clear 😊 If you are worried a vet can plaplate a female about 28 days after when you think they might have been bred to see if there are any puppies. Good luck

I heard inexperienced males will try to mate females at the wrong time. Experienced studs will know the time. Then there’s just dogs who hump as a behavioral issue. From my research the female is ready to breed once her discharge starts to lessen/change color and her progesterone levels rise which requires testing. I’m looking to NOT breed my dog and just waiting to spay until older. Finding info from breeders helps haha
Yeah, I think that was definitely the case and she was so unreceptive that I can’t imagine she was fertile, she just got sick of warding him off and wanted to eat in peace lol I have a couple of friends that breed and their advice has been invaluable!

I have a neutered male and he goes crazy when my girl is in heat. He was neutered around 1 1/4 years old. I've had him since he was 8 weeks old. He had never been around a female in heat before I got my girl. He was neutered well before I brought home my girl pup (at 8 weeks old). She's had her first heat, and will soon be going through it again and he's already started licking ,sniffing, and mounting her her more as she approaches her heat again. She had her first heat Nov 1st. So, if it's exactly 6 months she will be going into heat again May 1st. Honestly, it could be any time considering he definitely has noticed some hormonal shift in her. She's not bleeding yet, I keep checking. She isn't swelling yet either. I'm not looking forward to another heat, but I want her to be able to be bred when she's 2+ years old. The vet didn't mention that he had undescended testes, he would have charged me for it, and I assume the vet would have noticed a random THIRD teste, right? Lol IDK I sure HOPE he's not capable of producing pups. He's not a dog that SHOULD produce pups. His temperament is ridiculously stubborn and he has too much anxiety and fear aggression.@@emberandcolesenglishspringers
@@20NewJourney23 neutered males still notice but usually not as one tracked mind as ones that aren’t. Can you separate them in your house. Cole is still interested but if I separate them he tends to give up and get distracted by something else. Good luck and yes hopefully there is nothing hiding 😊
my female dog is in her first heat and my mom refuses to separate them, i suggested she let my brother watch the male dog and he lives in the apartment below us and be wouldn’t mind! but she literally refuses and they are daughter/father so if they were to mate and it would be terrible. and we have a huge cage that my mom refuses to uses to separate them!
So sorry to hear that, they must be separated especially after the 10 -12 day mark or he will surly breed her. Hopefully once the male starts acting irritating your mother will see that they need to be separated. Good luck 😊
So my female barely bled by the time I saw it I have no idea what day she’s on But I will say the past two days my male has gone ballistic. Barking, howling etc.. nothing calm like I see here😆
Sounds like she is in the breeding part, just be careful just because the bleeding stops doesn’t mean the heat is over. Wait till your male is totally not interested to reintroduce them. Good luck😊

I have both a male and female. Her appointment to get spayed isn't until next month. However her first heat started before. Our male is older and was here years before her. He has always been so sweet, kind, qnd gentle. The neighbors always compliment how well behaved and sweet he is, but since she's been In heat he's attempted to bite my oldest son, he won't eat, sleep. Wines all day and night. Wants to go out constantly and just an old grumpy man. We are currently on day 16 of heat. If you don't mind me asking what's going on with the heat cycle during this day? Is she still fertile? Will he go back to normal after it's over or shouldI consider removing him? And how much longer does this last. Sorry for all the questions it's just so stressful lol.
So she definitely could be still fertile. Day 21 is usually the end but the male may still pester her for a day or two after until he gets it in his head that she isn’t breedable anymore. I would wait and see what his temperament does, in my opinion I think he will go back to being the sweet loveable dog that you know. His hormones are going crazy right now and that is all he can think about. It is very hard to keep everyone separated I know with children around but maybe you should separate him from you children until this is over. With his hormones raging he probably doesn’t have time to play with kids or be bothered by them. Try reintroduce them around day 21-22 with supervision. Try giving her bath on these days maybe something really smelly to help get away her smell for him. Hope your sweet old man comes back, give him a chance to get over this stress and see what happens 🤗
Just wondering how this situation went? Mine is similar. My girl is on day 22. We washed everything and her and he was up howling twice last night for the first time, in addition to all the other craziness. 😭 she is only 8 months and he’s bigger and 10 yrs old. I doubt she will snap at him yet? We keep them separate but he usually avoids her and now he’s like a magnet to hump her. STILL!
Hello how are u? First want to thank u for this video. I have a question so my male dog is exactly acting with my female on her period panting and crying so I separated them and still he's panting and sniffing everything and wanting to jump everything . Is this normal? I don't want something to happen to him. I've been walking him but he's still smelling her scent
Totally normal, they now when and how long their female is in heat. Even removing him from the house would not completely stop this behaviour. You should make sure you separate them until the three weeks are up or a day or two more. He may still think he is interested but your female should tell him by nipping or barking that she is not in heat anymore. If she doesn’t then you may have to separate them longer. Good luck😊
you are lucky it took only 9 days to separate. I have two toy poodles.first heat cycle he was agitated after a week, we separate them and reintroduce day 27 of the cycle and our male dog was still crying for her.. now we said lets separate them another week. But im very anxious now because even she stopped bleeding and her vulva %90 go back.. not sure if things will go back to before :( any thoughts and tips for them welcome!
A bath would be a good start. You may have to let your female tell him off a few time. We let them see each other over a baby gate and then we walked them together. Once she nipped him a few times things settled down. Sorry you are having so much trouble.
@@emberandcolesenglishspringers thanks for the comment. yeah bath can be a good idea. and try to walk them can be a good way of the settle down the excitement. the problem with him, he doesnt eat, drink or relax he does this all day even in a different room from her. scratching the doors to go to him. Also because the stress he started to have blood in his stool. fingers crossed thing will go back to normal eventually.
I have poodles and I want to have puppies but the male is bigger then my female that is ok? or I need to find same size of her? she weighs 20 lbs and the boy is 45 lbs
Is one a miniature and one standard poodle or are they both the same? Did you buy them from a breeder? If you did I would contact them and ask them for advice. I don’t think size really matters too much unless it’s a huge difference. Hope this helps
I don’t have anyone to watch our intact male and we are at the point where he won’t listen to us, he’s peeing in the house which he’s NEVER done…he comes out of the crate and immediately jumps on her. Immediately. They are both 4yr old and this is the first time it’s ever been this bad. Both German shepherds. Not same litter or even same family. They technically COULD have puppies just fine but our female wants nothing to do with the male. She’s very dominate and doesn’t want him on her. Period. He’s not aggressive but he won’t eat. He won’t think beyond mounting her. I think we will consider having him neutered at this point….but I hate to do that because I don’t want either of them to gain excess weight. Hip issues are a thing with this breed and I don’t want to contribute to it unnaturally…..but we are at the absolute howling point and I can’t take him out of the crate except to go potty and try to get exercise….even then all he wants to do is come back inside to her. Sigh. I guess I didn’t know what I was getting into. All the heats to this point we just crated him a few days like we are trying to do now but it was literally just fine. No problems. No crazy behavior. My girl does NOT act like she wants to be bred. She also just wants to play and acts like she doesn’t understand why our male is being an asshole. This isn’t as easy as sticking a belly band on. Our male is almost 130#. Good lord we need to get him fixed. I can’t have him suddenly peeing all over.
I know the feeling, so sorry for you and your boy. If you are not planning on breeding either I would get your female spayed. Then there are no more heats and your male will probably not continue marking once she is out of heat anyways. There are more risks for keep and intact female than a male. Pyometra is fatal and can come on very quickly in females, so if there is no need to breed then it’s a good option. Good luck, hopefully it’s over soon 😊
I have 3 males and a female in active heat I too have no one to take my dogs. It’s horrible, I was hoping this video showed what it’s like when dogs are together during whole cycle.
