Not a tech diving video but a special dive with Sharklab Malta and Galaxy Charters in the marine protected area of Filfla, the smallest of the five Maltese islands. Check out minute 1:17 for a mating attempt.
It's a special dive because the area is closed to activities including diving. The Sharklab team is conductingr research to see how the ray population has developed since the area has been protected. Us lay divers got to come along to have additional pairs of eyes covering a larger area.
We did two dives - one on Filfla itself and another on a nearby pinnacle. Altogether 15 rays across three different species and some of the other groups even saw more! Being expertly skippered by Kevin Vella of Galaxy Charters made our day even easier.
