The Lift, old version, used to take loads of British sailors up for time out in Valletta. They used to spend the shillings pounds there in the bars and restaurants. Not like the thousands that pour up the lift today from the mega cruisers, to clog the streets up for an hour or two, spending very little, before going back for prepaid meals on board and cruising off to the next destination.

I did this walk in September 2019 and my first time on the upper Baracka lift down to Lascaris warf. Thanks Steve for this vidio. At the moment we are in Lockdown in England and can’t go anywhere, so l am really enjoying all your videos on Malta. Bye for now, Charles from Brighton.

Steve, you are so right!! Bullshit it is!!! We bought an apartment in Gozo with a million dollar view and on paper that no one could build higher than a certain height so we could keep that view. Well, the Hotel down the block expanded and built up the street! They went up directly in front of us and there went our million dollar view!! We spoke to everyone to no avail. Mayors and Lawyers couldn't help us and MEPA told us that "Laws Change"!! Thank God that we love Malta so much!!

I don't know how I missed this video first time round! I scrolled down the comments, but didn't see anything from me 😂 So, I'd just like to say thank you for sharing Steve 👍 I do try to watch all your videos... they keep me sane! 🤪 I particularly enjoyed this one because we've done this before, it's a lovely walk around Valletta and then over to the three cities. I'll remember next time to go down on the lift first and pay, you're right it was the other way round before. It would be interesting to see if the lido in Sliema is near completion, as it was like that the last time we were in Malta in 2019... before all this madness!!!

Interesting video Steve never been on the ferry to the three cites I will give it a go when I can come back. The walk down the Strand brought back some really good memories. The cafe on the key at Valletta as good memories to we used to sit there for a couple of hours watching the ferry come and go people watching. Thanks Steve great job😊👍

Fascinating trip; one which I'm very familiar with. Going back a long way, in 1956/7 used to wait for the school bus at Sliema Ferry to go to Royal Naval School, Verdala. Happy memories !!

What have they done to Sliema promenade? We used to walk from St Julian's to Sliema and then have lunch and a few drinks in a cafe at the far end away from the cruise boats, used to be full of locals playing draughts and chess. It was really cheap, about €1.70 for a large beer with lovely food. Not the best looking place to eat but good nonetheless.

That was a good trip Captain Steve. We went on the Captain Morgan cruise once round the island, that was really good. Going on these trips shows your viewers how to travel around Malta so I think a lot of people are interested in watching. Cheers Steve enjoyed that xx

Excellent video Steve. It's almost like being there with you - watching your videos. First time I tried for a small boat round to Valletta - it was too choppy; No water taxis. Second time I tried - I'd just missed the ferry round & ended up in the pub across the road. 3 pints & a burger later - we foolishly crammed onto the bus - & went into Valletta like that (if we'd have taken the boat we would have missed out on the stall selling the aniseedy fig-roll cake/biscuit things at the bus terminus, & the little museum with the last bits of the old draw-bridge). Interesting video, I was in Malta last October and it's sad to see it so quiet. Hopefully things will pick up soon. I stayed at the Hotel Kennedy Nova which is pretty much where you started the video, on my first day staying there I did the exact same trip as you - caught 2 ferries to the 3 cities! City looks as stunning as ever!

Hi Steve, I love my little Island in the sun :) nice to see the restoration work on the Saluting battery. The fish market (Pixkerija ) in Valletta was an interesting place to visit in the old days and the changes that has taken place in Birgu, that use to be all dry docks and ship building with a huge wall surrounding it. I recently heard that the government is looking to introduce a ferry services to different parts of the Island like a Bus service ? cheers

Steve, Valletta was built after the siege as there was only fort St Elmo standing. Valletta was also the first designed city in the world, the bastions built around Valletta & the 3 cities (Cottonera bastions) were never needed as there were no more sieges after the Turks failed invasion. Keep up the good work mate. I was raised in Birgu and left Malta when I was 10 years old.

Lovely thank you Steve. They are taking a long time with that sea front development at the Gzira end but it has involved much reclaiming before they could start. Always a pleasure to see Grand Harbour in lovely weather but that's too hot for me now.

The walls of Valletta might seem low but thats because the are massive. And they arent just "walls" the are bastions. They would have been ringed with cannons. And they are built to overlap eachother and one bastion could defend the next. I dont think ot would be easy to assault them like your friend was saying.
