Dear Monarchist Music, Thank you for bringing this nice anthem. I didn't know it and it quickly became a favourite. If you ever make a new version, may I add some suggestions for the translation? salutis nostrae sola spes = our only hope of salvation Ut omnia vincat tuorum ardens caritas = so that the ardent charity (or love) of your faithful (or people) overcomes (or triumphs over) everything. I'll give reasons for my suggestions below, so other Latin geeks may revise and improve them. I encourage you to pick Latin one day, it's really fun to learn. salutis nostrae sola spes I think that the Latin word 'salus' in this case means salvation. Litterally, the verse says 'of our salvation the only hope'. In order to render in better English, we might translate it as 'our only hope of salvation'. "Ut omnia vincat tuorum ardens caritas." I'll rearrange it in English sentence order so it is easier to work with: "Ut ardens caritas tuorum vincat omnia." This is a more difficult verse. 'Ut' is a preposition that introduces a dependent clause, and here we apparently have none. Moreover, it can be translated very differently according to the situation. If I take the previous verse as the independent clause, then the 'Ut' line can be translated as the purpose of the imperatives "inflamma" and "adauge". Even more difficult is the possessive 'tuorum', a pronoun that can be litterally translated as "of the yours". Horrible English, so we need a workaround. It is plural and masculine/neutral and, therefore, it has to refer to something that is both plural and masculine/neutral. Caritas is feminine and singular, so we need another word. In the anthem, the best fit is 'fidelium'. 'Corda' also fits grammatically, but makes less sense. Lastly, 'Caritas' can be rendered as 'love' in the Christian sense. Both are in line with "corda" and "gratiam", so you may translate as you wish. So, all this long reflection might lead us to the following translation so that the ardent charity (or love) of your faithful (or people) overcomes (or triumphs over) everything.
