Just in case anyone don't know. The "three great thieves" actually refer to Yeon Jung-hoon, Rain, and Ko Woo-rim with nicknames, "The Three National Thieves", gaven by K-netizens as they stole the hearts of three women Han Ga-in, Kim Tae-hee, and Yuna Kim, who represent Korean beauty, respectively. Solar has explained it in their album making film video and in their guest appearance in a web program Pungja love alcohol.
When Moonbyul mentioned Jeon Woochi, another bandit from the Jeseon Dynasty, Solar said she had given a big spoiler. The three representative bandits of Joseon, Hong Gilldong, Im Kkeokjeong, and Jang Gilsan, are famouse historical figures in Korea.
Those bandits are most known for their novels, where they are the main protagonist. Similar to Robin Hood. There are not many facts know about the real people who these characters are based on. It would be a stretch to say they are "historical figures."
@@rachelgamez3519 Unlike Robin Hood, don't the three of them have clear historical records through The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and Chuangeubgugan?
When they released the track list showing the feature by Kim Jun Su I thought it was the former member of TVXQ also (esp since they're Moonbyul's favorite boy group) but when I looked up Aniri and learned it was a narrative section of a pansori song I doublechecked and found out there's a pansori singer with the same name. Love the way the filmed the MV like a low budget stage performance including things like step ladders to represent climbing a flowering tree on the flower road of romance and the mirror argument scene with a simple square divider representing the mirror. You didn't mention it but MMM+ gives them a chance to stretch creative muscles that get less use in the full group like Solar rapping and Moonbyul singing and they co-wrote the music and lyrics with their boss Kim Dohoon so they were up to their elbows in most of the creative pies. Fantastic equal division of parts and quality of performance in all aspects of the song and MV, even down to the dancing and acting - if you didn't know Mamamoo you'd never be able to tell which member was considered to be the better dancer and which had stage experience. If this is b-side pre-release single then how good is GGBB going to be? Regarding the three thieves I poked around wikipedia and found a reference to the Three Great Thieves of Joseon in the article about one of them, Im Kkeokjeong, who led a peasant rebellion in the 16th century. He was the real life inspiration for the second, the fictional character Hong Gildong, a Robin Hood type who stole from the rich and gave to the poor (the most famous of the three). The third was Jang Gilsan, another legendary hero who was the son of a runaway slave. Imo the 3 thieves reference doesn't make much sense in the song since all of them were heroic figures but I guess Moonbyul meant the lover in the song is worse than the 3 great thieves because he stole her heart without giving anything back.

I’m so whipped for them😢 Like I don’t know how am I atracted to both of them at the sametime eventhough they deffinitely show two opposite sides of beauty. And I’m addicted. I need them to make a whole movie with each other
The phonebooth is also a reference to a Moonbyul solo song called Ddu ddu ddu from her 6equence album (the same as Lunatic and it's the last part of her storyline on the album - a love story from beginning to end).
Can’t wait for their new songs too. They said this song was their favorite song from their new album. Of course, their title track GGBB gonna be awesome too.
I mean ofc, leave it to Moonbyul and Solar to give us a S.O.T.Y. candidate sheeeeeeeesh! Production is insane on this one, beat is banging so damn hard. Visuals😮 These 2 are incredible, i mean all of Mamamoo are but damn... So glad i didnt watch any teasers. They killed this. Also hope you're feeling better today Daniel!
So I googled around a bit and one thing that popped up for 3 biggest thieves in Korea is a nickname for the husbands of the 3 women considered the most beautiful actresses in Korea. Not sure if this is what it refers to, but maybe? Another possibility - because of the integration of Joseon dress are some legendary thieves from that era. I think the character of Hong Dil-Gong (great drama series which I think is based on an old book) is supposed to be one of them.
I actually didn't catch the meaning of the moment with the phone booth and dancers passing with mobiles when watching MV by myself - thanks for such an interesting input) history of ghosting through time
I really love your reaction as I am so amazed by this MV and the song itself. In case you don't know. Solar revealed a few days ago in a fansign that one of the background sounds such as 1:17-1:22 in the MV was actually an adlib sung by her in a gugak (Korean traditional music) style that she learned by watching performances as a judge in Poongryu Captain (풍류대장), a traditional crossover music competition show, while we all thought it was from some kind of traditional instrument like haegeum (해금/奚琴) (similar to urhu (二胡) but a bit different in material and fingering). Example fancams with her demonstration and explanation about the gugak style adlib can be found in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a3yrWG9IraE.html (27:10 - 28:02, singing from 27:40) and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VFWNGNPDcyk.html (28:08-29:00, singing from 28:38). I suggest you go watch the fancams and you would be so surprised as her voice is so amazing in that kind of style!
With all the girls from Mamamoo I always have to watch their new MVs' at least two or three times in quick succession just to make sure I take them in, because there's so much both musically and visually going on I can't take it all in on the first watch. The singing, the lyrics, the visuals and the combination of all of it is just too well done, and first watch and even the first impressions just don't do them justice, nå matter how good it is. ❤
