MAMAMOO 1st Mini Album REACTION/REVIEW 

Hwasa's I DO ME is supposedly a written apology when she was on the brink of being fired by the CEO because of being "hard headed" -her own words... and she didn't even know why It turned out to be this iconic piece.. Instead of being angry the CEO loved it and made it into a song with the real voice of her father in it..

Okay, but that fact that "Baton Touch" _isn't_ one of their more well known/most liked songs amongst fans should say a LOT about how great their overall discography is😅

they've used this intro in several lives, including their group intro for the show queendom a few years ago... and one thing about rbw artists... every single intro our outro they do sounds like it absolutely needs to be a full song a lot of their early stuff was co-written or co-composed by esna, who you'll be introduced to in the song "ahh oop" which she performs with mamamoo sadly, a lot of their early collabs didn't have byul in them. it feels like they were still trying to figure out what to do with her. of course, when they performed them live (those that got lives), she tended to take parts from the featured artists hwasa's "i do me" is actually quite interesting because she wrote the song as an apology (somehow) after she upset their ceo one time too many... she wrote the song while being afraid she'd be kicked out of the group before they even debuted. and yes, that's actually her dad in the song, she called him and asked him to act out one of their earlier conversations together when she was younger (she was a headstrong kid too, but absolutely adores her family). and that outfit was her solo stage during the four seasons f/w concert... each member had 20 minutes to do whatever they wanted and she performed part of this song during it ha, yeah, that was bumkey at end of "don't be happy"... in the studio version he gets the whole first verse which was cut out of the mv to allow for the group's intro... and since this was one of the two predebut tracks... it was one hell of an intro... these women pretty much came out of the gate sprinting bumkey is, as you've heard here, an amazing r&b vocalist... he's performed with mamamoo on their first epsiode of sketchbook they attended...a rather interesting episode, i thought, as every artist interviewed performed with the artist before them, did their interview, then performed with the artist after them (mamamoo were the last artist so got to perform solo at the end). mamamoo + bumkey "all of me" is just...fantastic doesn't do it justice more recently, bumkey re-released one of his older songs, "the lady", with moonbyul singing it with him. back in 2015 it was one of her favorite songs to cover, so i love that she got to actually sing it with the original artist with the intro at the end you can kind of see how they were originally planning to push moonbyul and wheein as the dance line and with the mv for "peppermint chocolate", the other predebut, you can sort of see they were originally pushing wheein as main dancer role alongside her vocalist role

Moonbyul was actually left out of quite a few early Mamamoo songs, either because they were collabing with male rappers/singers or the song was a ballad and they couldn't fit any rap in it (back then they were still undermining her vocals)

“Don’t be happy” is Mamamoo very first pre-debut song. This is where the legend begin.

“Don’t put these two together” It’s overwhelming, right?? but they’re the Angel Line so we can’t do anything about it. We’ll forever be mesmerised by their vocals together 😩💛

Their earlier songs is so simple but felt retro and nostalgic. They also have unique sound. Ahhh that you mention it now I remember that many people say that Mamamoo sound is so soulful 😂. They considered more mature and older group although they have similar age with other group that debut in the same years. I think its because their technic, their music and their sounds. That's why they stands out up till now. 24:35 yes that's Bumkey 😂 His latest project is remake song featuring Moonbyul titled "The Lady" they sound beautiful.

About the last song: They released the song as a pre-debut single in January 2014. Mamamoo debuted in June 2014. Moonbyul and Hwasa only appear in the outro of the MV where they introduce the group MAMAMOO. Bumkeys verse in the beginning is cut out in the MV, but it's part of the studio version. I don't know why though 😅🤷‍♀️

Little fun fact about Hwasa's I Do Me. Their CEO told her that she was on the brink of getting fired so she wrote a heart felt letter on a cafe trying to explain her behavior and why she was so "hard headed" and when the CEO read the letter, BAAAAM! They made her letter into a song. And that's the birth of I Do Me. 🤭🤭

Hwasa wrote & produced that song and sent it to the ceo after being threatend to be cut from being a trainee. She explains it in the concert in a hilarious way. The ceo liked the diss so much he put it on the album

First off, LOVE the new look! Yours, and your studio! Beautiful! "Don't Be Happy" (2013) is PRE DEBUT, and actually the first time they were seen in a video as MAMAMOO, and as you can see Hwa Sa's name was even spelled wrong. After Don't Be Happy, their next PRE DEBUT Song is "Peppermint Chocolate" (2014), with K.Will. All 4 members are shown in this video, it is an AMAZING song. Hwa Sa's solo song "I Do Me" was actually an apology email she wrote to her CEO, that he thought would make a great song. So along with not firing her, he had her make it into a solo and added it on the album. That is why it seems so out of place with the other songs on the EP. (The video you saw at the end of your reaction, that you commented about Hwa Sa's fit. Her solo stage during their 4 season's concert she explains about this very subject before doing bit of the song.) This Album, along with the Piano Man EP has the same jazzy, r&b vibe to it, but the fans said it made them sound "old", so even though they loved the sound, they needed to add in a more pop sound as well. So in Pink Funky (the next EP), you hear that in the title track, "Um Oh Ah Yeh", but in the b-sides we can still heard the jazzy, funky r&b that we all love. I especially LOVE the songs "No no no", and of course "Ahh Oop!". I'm sure you will adore ALL of their Albums, and EPs when you get to them! Of that I have no doubt. I So look forward to your next Mamamoo reactions!

God, I love the sound of early Mamamoo, and I'm glad you enjoy it too. My heart breaks every time though, when I remember that RBW did Moonbyul dirty on multiple occasions in their early career. Multiple times, she was left out of songs and/or replaced with rappers they collaborating with. I can't even listen to some tracks because of it. :/ Later on, she did add raps to some songs, but there's no studio version for those. Sigh. It's why a lot of moos got really upset with WAW and her very short part in it. Especially because all these years later, we KNOW she can sing. She's a very strong vocalist. Oh! one last thing! The song with Bumkey where only Solar and Wheein sang -- that's actually the closest thing we have to an official subunit! They go by ANGEL LINE because of their angelic voices. You'll see this later, but mmm even did a subunit competition between the rappers (hwasa and byul) and angel line and they each created their own subunit songs. I won't tell you who won though ;)

OMG yes!!!! My fav track from "Hello" is Baton Touch. and I also love "Don't be happy" because I love bumkey. You should check out "Don't be happy - Mamamoo version live" Hwasa and Byul sing Bumkey's part. In general I really love this album (Rapper Hwasa is the best) hehehaheho's melody was composed really fast, the CEO was playing the guitar randomly and he liked the melody, so he told the girls to record it the same day. As always, I really love your reactions!!! (Another fact: this album only sold 100 copies the first week, unbelievable, I know. Now look where they are)

Don't Be Happy is one of their two pre-debut songs (the other is called Peppermint chocolate) and they used that MV kind of an introduction to the members, so they cut part of the song Also, as you noticed, that Moonbyul didn't appear in the second song, this also happened in some of their ealier songs

And find beautiful small details within the songs together. Thirdly, I like your hat. This album was in 2014 I think Solar was 24, Moonbyul about one year under that. Wheen & Hwasa maybe about 18-19 y.o. But yes, they're bold right from the first album.

yess their first album, although they were considered one of the best debuts of 2014, they really worked hard because the sales weren't all that great initially. they put themselves out there performing everywhere they could, and then got their foot in with the public with Immortal Songs show. although mr ambiguous is their debut title, and iconic, the girls always consider um oh ah yeh as the song that sprung their careers to be what they are now
