What I love about “yes I am” is that the lyrics somewhat contradictory at times, like Wheein says she doesn’t feel the need to show skin, but Hwasa’s like “if I wear a sleeveless shirt in winter, it’s summer now”- it’s basically a very deliberate statement of there’s no wrong way to be who you are, what makes you feel happy and confident is unique to you, and should be loved and embraced regardless. I also love Solar and Moonbyul talking about the features that made them not fit Korean beauty standards and specifically talking about how they love them. It really is such a special thing.
You didn’t make up the thing about Moonbyul, but I think it’s something that is a bit overstated. There was a show she was on where they dramatized down personal moments of idols lives, and hers was the story of how she became a rapper. It portrayed it very much like she wanted nothing to do it rapping and that she was essentially strong armed into it to debut. However, I recently watched the their Where Are We documentary, and they discussed how it came to be. Her CEO, Kim Do Hoon, had said that she was concerned about debuting because she didn’t feel her vocals were as strong as the other members. So Do Hoon told her he thought she could be a great rapper, especially because when she spoke her pronunciation was so clear that he thought it would really suit rapping. She wasn’t really a fan of rap and I’m sure she chose it in the end because of her lack of confidence, but he said the decision was always hers and in the end it was probably only about 20% influenced by him and other staff. Now to be fair, most of that was stated by Do Hoon, and not Moonbyul directly. But I feel like she would’ve pushed back if that were the case, and so far she hasn’t stated otherwise. So I think the show ‘reenactment’ was maybe more exaggerated than we realized. Which would be unsurprising.
Only Mamamoo could do a song about cringy bad jokes and make it sound so good. The choreo is fantastic there. And Solar is just into it,. she really shines in this one. The jokes are so stupid, you almost have to laugh. Audiences go crazy when they do this live. If you didn't think everything you needed was Wheein's honey vocals,... there is that last song. NOBODY sings like that,.. except that person. And more collabs with very talented singers.
Drat! I linked an explanation video and a blog post explaining Aze Gag in the description for the album of the week submission, is that not working anymore? I knew you didn’t really read them out anymore, but I figured you were still getting them. But yeah Aze Gag is like the one Mamamoo video without English subtitles because I think even they didn’t know how to explain it properly
Omg that was totally my fault! I usually read them but I prepared all the videos the day before and forgot to open it to read on camera!! Imma go back and read it now though!! 💜💜💜
@@LandonMark no no it’s okay! And you don’t need to read that stuff on camera if you don’t want to, it’s just some extra info so you don’t get confused 😂 I just knew Aze Gag is basically Paldogangsan levels of “non-Korean speakers just look away, you’re not going to get it” so I wanted to pre-empt it a little 😂 Hope you enjoy the explanations!
They are Korean puns and make no sense in English. The TV guys are comedians and when they performed it live, each would bring jokes to fill that spot and try to crack each other up. Between radio shows and music shows, they've done it live many times.
