i totally agree with you... everyone provide good comments as a courtesy but Mamamoo dude talents are overflowing.... even their seniors when they were rookies says theyre a monsters (good) in music
It may be nothing new, but I liked your interpretation of the difference between idols and singers in Korea. I feel like it's tricky/difficult to verbally make that distinction because on the one hand, the idols dedicated most of their adolescence invested in "idoldom," they do a hell of a job showcasing themselves as entertainers (first) and singers (second) on stage, and they deserve all of popularity they get. On the other hand, there are a few exceptions where a group's vocals are/were promoted as its strongest quality, which allows a group like MAMAMOO to experiment with different genres of music like they do here WHILE retaining the credibility of being vocalists (it also helps that RBW allows MAMAMOO to be their goofy selves and promotes their individuality). MAMAMOO truly is one of a kind. Anyway, enjoyed your reaction, David. Subscribed.
I’ve never listened to kpop willingly because they were all the same and no group stood out to me. My friends were crazy fans. They obsessed with how hot the members were and drool over their faces and their ‘growls’ or rap part. Like, that was the only thing they talked about. Now I somehow stumbled upon Mamamoo one day and I knew I found something unique and different than what I kept on seeing/hearing. Even though I didn’t know much about kpop, I just knew they were different and unique than the other groups. And now I’m a happy Moomoo who’s very grateful that they exist because not only are they wonderful singers, they are very caring, humble and shows that they care about their fans a lot.
Mamamoo really outdid themselves with the mv visuals. The girls were stunning and so was my homeland (we should promote this song for tourism purposes). But David you did amazing with that reaction and music interpretation. The song sounded very simple but extremely pleasing, the visuals complemented it well. But for a second you seemed like the musical professional in dkdk.
OMG I can’t stop thinking about the “everytime they touch their hair, it gets faster” version from you guys hahaha Anyway this is by far their best comeback so far! The mv, the music, their voices and of course, the girls. PERFECT.
This is my first time watching mamamoo mv....n trust me this is the best mv for me... The places are beautiful like David said... Even though i am a girl but i always admire Korean beauty these girls look like Angels..i didn't understand the lyrics but music is awesome.. So if i describe this mv in one line... It is like angels singing and enjoying in heaven.... I am totally mesmerized...
Great reaction, as usual, David. Thanks for your perspective on Mamamoo and I agree, I want a 360 version, too! They're all so charismatic, but I agree, something about Hwasa is just... Hwasa. The vocals were so subtle here, I really appreciated it.
I think the reason why Mamamoo broke that stereotype was bc really all their vocalists have a really good mixed voice/belt, or what the general public calls high notes. Other groups have like one or two main vocalists of whom mostly only one has a developed technique and the rest is like... dancers. Most of the time not even real rappers but dancers who don't have a high voice type (which also made the stereotype of "idol rappers" a thing). And I somehow agree, most of the kpop idol groups have better dancers than vocalists or rappers and that's why ppl could consider them "not real musicians". But the thing is, they are great performers and that's why they deserve the attention they get and there are more and more self-producing idols which I find very good. On the other side, ballad singers aren't necessarily good singers either, but they come off as good singers since they are mainly vocalists and often soloists, so the average vocal skill within a group of artists is more likely to be higher. I mean, it's only one person who wants to sing, not sing and dance simultaneously. Speaking of dancing and singing at the same time... It's harder than singing while simply standing there, that's maybe why ppl judge idols' singing from their live stages while dancing and compare them directly, which is not exactly fair. Jihyo from TWICE is not as bad as ppl assume her to be since she "is part of the group that can't sing". Also, idol groups often get songs that are really high for their respective voice types and that's where the dancers begin to struggle, while soloist get songs written for them that are ok for their range. Although Davichi has songs with a similar vocal range and they have a better average vocal skill than most idol groups. Speaking of Davichi... I WANT A 15& COMEBACK.
Callmykoe: What's the association between Davichi and 15&? oh...there both duo's? I like a lot of Yerin's solo stuff and the song "Lie" that Lee ha-Ri? did with MadClown, Any other suggestions? Btw I'm twitter moniker: fda1115
bob ansak yes they're both duos, but they also have a high vocal average skill! I personally like 15&'s live videos a lot, especially Not Today Not Tomorrow. And Lee Haeri has a lot of great vocal performances, although I am not that much of a fan of her timbre. Davichi's 8282 is iconic tbh and their new song, Wanna One's Daniel has starred in it, is great as well.
Thanks I think I've listened to NTNT I've heard of 8282 thanks for the recommendations. Did you put out a cover yet? What did you think of Charlotte's ability in the Pretty-U cover?
bob ansak Nah I didn't, I'm still struggling with editing 😂😅 and Charlotte was pretty good actually! She has a nice tone and her playing was supported nicely. She was a little pitchy at times, but it was such a playful situation and a one-take at that that you can't expect of her to be on point all the time :)
Good luck with editing! Who are you Randy Jackson from American Idol? Lol Yeah... my question was kinda unfair since it was hard to take the perforance too seriously.
I agree to you, it's really comfortable to listen to this song while watching the mv. Nice reaction! 👏👏👏 P.s. outro is hwasa's solo track in their album.
Thx for reacting to our girls and definitely proud of the growth our girls are showing in this comeback. I love this mv because it's so aesthetically pleasing and they look great and sound awesome! Thx for insight in Korea general public regarding idols vs singers and proud Mamamoo broke the mold.
Why is MAMAMOO's dual image of idol + singer viewed as a negative thing in korea? And also, how is MAMAMOO's popularity in south korea as compared to other girlgroups? Would love to hear a south korean's perspective on things!
Jiaxin Chin u missed the point its not seen as negative thing for mamamoo cuz they are more seen as singers or artists in korea cuz of their vocals, composing , songwriting n even choreographing their own songs while the other idols are just seen as manufactured products who can't sing according to k-public. Mamamoo was the first one as a whole group who broke that stereotype n all four members are seen as really talented in the k-public's eyes. As for popularity mamamoo is really popular in korea n their demographic not just caters to the whole idol worshipping fanboys or girls but also older korean masses as well. Their public recognition is no joke n easily sit comfortably in terms of popularity among the top 3 ggs. The korean reporters also did a reaction to mamamoo u can check it out on vstar channel. N they kept saying "we can't say mamamoo are idols they are singers"
This is my favorite reaction of this mv, thank you! I really loved your interpretations/explanations, and how much you appreciated their mv and their musicality.
So this album is part of 4 Colors/4 Seasons Album project. There will be 3 more albums. If you have watched 'Paint Me' MV, that was a big spoiler for the project. Each color/season represented members: Hwasa: (Yellow/Spring) Wheein: (White/?) Moonbyul: (Red/?) Solar: (Blue/?) So this album is representating Hwasa's character and style. 3:40 till the end is Hwasa's Solo (part of this album)
Yeahh i know,, i'm not exciting of girlgroup, but mamamoo is different, they have quality singers and can perform as well, and never lipsinc every perform. Love them. Thx ur reaction,,,
I really appreciate the "on the spot" translation. I try to get Jae (no not that Jae the other Jae), Pd from FOT to do this more often LOL! Also, for those of us that don't understand Korean well enough or not at all, it kind of gives us a basis of your interpretation of the "feel" of the song.
Great reaction! You said everything I'd want to say, and more... First of all, this video is superlative, gorgeous (and the girls too!) Spectacular NZ scenery, and yet he reined it in, cutting each scene perfectly, so nothing was "too much." (I mean, it's Hong Won-ki, of course it's amazing!) The song is beautiful, their voices are really sublime. (Thanks for that clarification about idols and singers - I think it's because audio processing is so good now they can correct any shortcomings.) Thanks again!
YESSS... 360 VR version is definitely needed! But people would need to know to look around though. I remember the first time I watched 4Minutes Canvas 360 VR and I spent the whole time looking at their feet. I was so mad thinking it was the stupidest video ever. I felt like the biggest idiot once I figured it out 😳
"Mamamoo is breaking that stereotype"..yes, they do. They did it to me. Just remind me the early days of their debut, i cant help to not have the same prejudice towards idols or in my case i just call them boy/girlband group. I'm not saying all of them cant sing, but yeah mostly/some of them they show more their other abilities such dance/acting/being in variety show or such. As for me, the only kpop i root for was only cnblue (well, their a band ;)) Then mamamoo just broke my prejudice towards kpop. Thanks to Jonghyun of cnblue was a model of mamamoo first mv, then i happened to know them, listen to them, and since then they become 1st girlband i root for. 4 of them, they can sing (with such technical singing skill), rap, dance..they just such a compleye package of a singer.
I will be honest I posted before I Finnished the video becuz your reaction was epic then at the end you broke it down and brother 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏new sub brother u deserve it
Today, I saw your reaction in my recommendations, again :)) (I saw it the other day but I didn't think it's really you. Sorry, I didn't know dkdktv is funiture channel now :(( ), and 'Wait wait wait, look like david + justdavid, it's really david from dkdktv! Oh, david from dkdktv + mamamoo reaction, click!' I just want to say that I really like your reactions bc your reactions is not (fake) (over-)reaction like most of others reaction channels do, you say the real though you have, and you even let me know ab Korean general knowledge (like in this vid, idols and singers; or like the vid ab mamamoo performed in blue dragon award, the pride the Korean actors/actresses have,...). So thank you ^^~ Hope to see more reactions from you, especially MMM reactions :)) (well cuz I like MMM a lots ^^) P/s: hope u don't find it annoyed with my comment, I didn't intend to make a long comment like this at first.
I'm Moomoo .I am really excited to hear their new songs. But I'm scared about their next comeback. It's too great this times. Please don't take too long for waiting them.
I agree with everything you've said. I wasn't really into their stuff but this song and this mv are the definition of perfection. And even if I'm not into them, I do think they're really talented👏👏 Regarding idols not being considered as real singers, do you think it still applies to BTS?? Pls note that I don't wanna sound rude to MAMAMOO by asking this, I'm just overall genuinely curious
See if you see any of MAMAMOO's Immortal Songs performances you'll realise what he is talking about in terms of vocal talent of MAMAMOO. BTS on the other hand have amazing timbres but they lack vocal technique which I think they have now started focusing on bc if they don't it's gonna be problem for them in the future. Just see any of MAMAMOO'S Immortal Songs performance you'll know on your own.
Ishita Rawat I've never said MAMAMOO wasn't talented when it came to their voices. I've always believed that as singers they're superior. It's a personal taste tho. I've listened to a couple of their songs before this one and musically speaking it's not close to my taste. While this song is.. I've even heard them performing live and they're really good. As for BTS, I asked not because I wanted to compare them to MAMAMOO but just to know how Koreans do percieve them now that they're growing internationally and since they've won KMA. Anyway I'll go listen to that song☺ I think that has a matter of voices they're superior too. They all have distinctive voices and if you heard their songs you can actually notice they're very versatile with their timbre. And they did improve during the years
Did U See My Bag? I appreciate BTS a lot as a group they are the whole package. They have good music, release bangers all the time, artistic point of view in their MVs, amazing rap line, amazing dancers, visuals are amazing, funny adorable humble boys. I love them and appreciate them even though I don't stan stan them as it's too much to keep up with. Idk what I wanted to say but I think, in my opinion, since they are so popular people sometimes overlook the fact to whether consider them as singers or idols. I mean so much happens to them that maybe people don't wait to think about this... That's my opinion, kinda hazy and unclear but uh yeahhh (lol forgive me)
Ishita Rawat I do get your point, it's tought to keep up with them😂 But I do respect your opinion. I think us, especially the ones who are BTS' fans don't think they're idols anymore. While they may have started as ones, and there's still something that links them to it, I think that by now they proved lyrics' wise, by producing and composing their songs, by being overall musicians that we can't consider them anymore as just idols. That's why I was curios. Like David said especially in Korea people tend to look down on idols. And MAMAMOO managed to separate themselves from that. That's what I was wondering. If people there still consider BTS as just idols or not. I mean people as in general public
