I can't believe this game is 40 years old!!!!!! I remember this game being across the street at the "Omini" pizza and subs shop from my house. It was hard as Calculus to play!! Never did get to the top of the building! I was only 12 years old when this game came out! The golden age of arcade games!! Ms. Pac-Man and GORF was right next to it. DAMN!! Where have the years gone???!!! Great Memories!! Who could have imagined a deadly incurable pandemic 40 years later??!!! WTF??!!
I used to play this game in 81-82. I thought I was good back then. I always had the high score. The farthest I got was almost finishing the 5th building. This dude is the undisputed champ.
Fun Fact: There was a recently discovered romset which changes the copyrighted music to completely different pieces for the US, due to copyright troubles that they got into. It'll be registered as US set 2 in MAME 0.189. John's Arcade has a rom dump of this relatively rare version available.
I played the Crazy Climber with odd music back in the early 80's. It was a cocktail version in a tiny mexican food joint. I thought I was crazy until I heard the rom recently and realized I did remember it correctly after all.
I wouldn’t be surprised of they faced lots of copyright law suits from other companies since this game does contain many familiar tunes like a shortened version of the pink panter tune among others.
Sublime control of the character, especially when climbing "diagonally" Great avoidance of the "4th degree barbells" and some great luck against the falling signs. Only got scraped off once by them on an impossible drop.
3:52 That time they used a _Doraemon_ song in a game that was released even in countries in which _Doraemon_ didn't air yet (such as the United States).
This game was so much back in the 80s, I used to play it all the time, and it could really piss you off. I'm so thankful for mames, because we can relive our childhood.

One of my favorite all time arcade games as a kid. I was good, and could get round passed the 4th building and then some. But damn...I wasn’t THIS good! Awesome game play here, nice work!

That would be a great score with the original "twin-stick" control panel. How you were able to manage that with a gamepad is absolutely amazing. Thanks for the gameplay my friend, good stuff!👍👍

Loved this game soooooooo much. I used to finish the 4th building, but then I was over in a few. Damned stairs and heavy weight s! This game required really a good strategy and very fast and precise movements. Great playthrough, congrats !!!
this game, scramble and super cobra were in the cafeteria at cherry hill high school west for a least 1 school year. if you couldn't play it then you had to hit the circle bowling alley for it after school

I counted 8 hits by the barbells and girders. It proves that you need to "lucky" as well as good to get through this amazingly difficult game. My top on the original hardware is 383,850. Third building, second time around.
Good mobility. You got pretty lucky in several spots where I would have thought for sure that the girders/barbells would have peeled you off the side. Shame you got unlucky with the sign peeling you off on the twin towers. Just bad luck there. Good run!
Amazing playthrough of an awesome classic game, mastering the controls is hard enough let alone play near flawlessly, the game gets really hard after stage 3 but he cheated death many times !
Moving laterally can be difficult in this game, I used to get that screwed up a lot. It’s my second favourite twin joystick game behind Robotron. This guy’s good.
If you had both hands on the window below your waist, you will always survive the flower pots. The worst part of this game, stand-up version, was the contact points would become disabled due to the slamming of the controls, but oh how I loved this game. I could make the 6th building, but never did clear it.
Highlights: 1:41 First building cleared with score of 28,400 2:03 Extra life (30,000 points) on second building 6:07 100,000 points reached (third building) 7:17 First death (fourth building) 8:37 Fourth building cleared with score of 225,300 and game loops 16:08 Second death on eighth building - third death occurs about 20 seconds later 16:51 Eighth building and second loop cleared with score of 453,000 20:41 Tenth building cleared - this is last building cleared before game over.
(Flies down to you with the Take-Copter, Draws Air Cannon, and Deploys Mini-Gangster guys that I forgot the name of and set you as the target (Yes, even though it's been quite a while since Disney stopped re-running their Doraemon dub I still kinda remember some gadgets like the Anywhere-Door and Dictator Switch)) Gimme your lunch money *and some gud h e a d*
The version of the game I used to play had an element that seems to be missing here: Wasn't there an electric sign near the top with little lightning bolts coming out of it, and the sound effect the game used was (I think) an exact copy of the first synth riff in the Who's "Baba O'Riley"?
I remember getting tendinitis in my shoulder from playing this game sooo much in the arcade. My doctor was rather perplex to see a 10 yr old with this type of shoulder injury ... I didn't admit that I did it playing a video game 🙂 I spent all of my paper route earnings in the arcade hehe.
I never could get the knack of using both joysticks in the arcade version. Drove me nuts ha. I thought getting hit with a flowerpot from more than one floor above knocked you off the building?
It looked like one of the dumbbells hit you in level 2, and there was a clang to go with it. How is that survivable? Same question for the spark in level 4 that turned your garb purple but wasn’t deadly.
If you get hit by the dumbells or girders while you are low down in the building, you won't die of you're holding yourself up with both hands when you get hit, not hanging from a window, buy your body should be above the window ledge. This won't work past the 20th floor, or thereabouts. What I don't understand is that a few times in later levels, he is high up on the building and only holding on with 1 hand , and gets hit by a girder and the Crazy Climber just bounces down then up again. Hmmmm ...
@ MAMEWorldRecords, My GF claims she rolled over the score on this game waaaay back when it was new---late 80's I'm sure. Her exact term was 'popped' and she got a free replay--- I'm Not or was never a fan of this game back then , ever ! So no bias here. I have been looking for a restored cabinet & game as a gift; they're hard to come by......Thanks for the video !
I know you said you’re not a fan, but might be surprised to learn this wasn’t a late 80’s game. It was released in 1980 in Japan and I remember playing it all summer long in 1981 here in the states.
I really like this game but want to find a way to download it to work for windows 7 but cant find the right place to get it and need help to download it any ideas would be very well appreciated
***** Not certain this will help, as I've not tried the few versions offered, but start here coolrom.com/ and coolrom.com/search?q=crazy+climber . My GF Loved this game way back then,,,, hope this helps.
I have windows 7 64 bit and need to find a way to download the game to work on my desktop pc these do not work any other ideas would be appreciated thank you
I just don't understand why sometimes the girders kill you and some times they don't. Right at the end, did you make a mistake, or did it just randomly decide to kill you?
No, there is a pattern. The first girders at the beginning of 3rd and 4rd buildings don't kill you if you place both arms below and stay still..unless you are very close to the first flower pot shooting (3rd building) or the electric machine (4rd bulding). If you keep yourself alive girders will keep falling and if you are hit you are dead in any case
In the arcades, I could never get past the FIRST building. Now that I have it on the Switch, I can usually get to the upper middle of the fourth building.
