Thank you for this video, kind sir! I'm just getting into shooting film with older analog cameras, and I found this exact model at a thrift shop with a few small accessories and booklets for $25. I've heard the meters on these go bad often, but I haven't tested mine yet. Either way, I'm excited to play around with this hefty machine; apart from disentigrating light seals, it looks to be in decent condition! Also, I could listen to you teach about cameras all day; your voice is so calming and pleasant. :)
That photo of the boats @ 6:23 reaches out to me, its tack sharp with great contrast. I would imagine the build quality is high being a Mamiya product 😊
Excellent review as always. I enjoy using the 100 DTL myself as a great M42 mount with the spot and average options! Mamiya was a very good medium format camera manufacturer and I think it shows in the design and build quality of their 35mm cameras - including this one. I just think the layout and options are just a little more complicated than say the Spotmatic or K1000 to use, and this is why Pentax won out in the end.
Picked up 2 1000TL's and a selection of lenses a while back for next to nothing. The TL was only spot metering, does the DTL still have the spot meter as a rectangle in the centre bottom of the frame? You're totally right about the Spotmatic, the prototypes originally had spot metering but Pentax changed it to centre weighted before it went into production.
Hi, very nice video. I like to watch your presentations. i got chance to buy one mamiya dtl and i might go for it. Whats preferences OM 10 or 1000 dtl?
thanks for the reply. Can I ask you one more question, what is your opinion on analog photography and digital image processing? I have serious concerns about combining one and the other technology, because the quality of the photo evaluation is lost during digital processing. That's why I visit the darkroom and develop the better shots into photography.
