This man in Northern Canada is spending time alone in the woods. He's working on a cabin, cutting trees, eating delicious food, and watching northern lights. It gets even better when his girlfriend and his dog join him.
The colder the temps outside, the bigger the propane bottle needs to be in order to produce enough vapor. That's why a 100lb bottle can power a stove in the cold better than a 25lb bottle. No matter how full or empty they are.
Your puppy is adorable you picked out the perfect breed they're very smart I love poodles❤ the cabin is looking so good I liked it from the start it is so pretty at night when you do the Drone shots❤ I enjoyed this video see you in the next one
Hello from Southern California! You can get the stovetop sparkling clean by making a paste of baking soda and water and letting it sit for a bit. Add some Dawn dish soap and a little white vinegar. It will foam up, and you can scrub off all the burnt-on residue with little effort. In fact, it practically wipes off. I hope this tip helps!
Thank so much Jay for putting these video's out. Ive been struggling lately with the loss of my mother and your videos are always a great distraction. Im so glad to see Crystal and Puffy. Keep up the great work and im looking forward to the next one!
Great segment Jay! Hope the saw stays dependable, and one suggestion… strip the bark off your log-table and put a layer of sealer on it the ends. Won’t crack this way and it’s a craftsman piece!
You two got a lot accomplished this trip. The log to be used to place a coffee cup on is a great idea and cute to boot. The puppy is really enjoying the wide-open areas. Looking forward to your progress on the cabin this year. Stay safe!
''I got 12ft lengths here, 2 x10's, 2x8's and 10 pcs of plywood ...and.... a really fast dog'' Cracked me up.🤣..Pup is living his best life !!🤣Love that your pet is now in your videos....Enjoying the cabin reno series...:😄
Jay your cabin reminds me of the simple rustic "camps" that I stayed in when I lived in Northern Maine when I lived up there in my 20S. I am now 73. So many wonderful memories.
🤙🏻👌🏻👍🏻❤ Hi Jay. LOVE your thumbnail. Look's like a fairy tail pic. Looks unreal. I took a screen shot. You have a fabulous cabin and you are doing a good job in the renovations. Greetings, Sara from South Africa🇿🇦
Quality Chainsaw makes all the difference!!! So happy for your purchase Stove top. - bartenders friend powder with magic eraser leave soap on then lay a wash cloth over it and pour boiling hot water on a wash rag to wet the rag and soak. Then second scrub with magic eraser. May have to repeat and few times. Want to know more about you… what do you do for work, do you live close to your cabin? How often do you get to visit your cabin? What is your biggest dream for this cabin?how far from where you park do you have to transport your goods?
I believe Puffy loves the cabin just as much as you do, maybe more lol. He's so adorable 🥰. Crystal picking up that mouse reminds me of helping a friend of mine clean out her fridge when I was around 12 or so. She had one of those fridges that had a big drawer on the bottom. She told me to take it out n sit it on the back porch so I took it out n went to sit it down n my hands n arms started itching.... I looked down n my hands n arms were full of these huge maggots. I had never seen a maggot before. I started screaming like a girl, my friend started cracking up. I probably washed my arms 4 or 5 times😭🤣😭. Loved the video Jay. Tyfs God bless you
Another fantastic video Jay. You got yourself a great all around chain saw now. Great to see your girlfriend and puppy came to give you a helping hand. You simply can't beat a homemade poutine! Cheers
Your cabin has really improved since last summer. The stairs, the railing, the bed and the rocking chair! Wow. Hiding under the sink would be nicer. And my hero, Puffy, love him!
Good morning Jay. When you're cutting up a tree like that, if possible clear as much snow away as you can. Believe it or not snow and ice will dull the chain. This will help so you won't have to sharpen it as much.
Snow equals water ! Who knew? Nothing like a good fast dog to help with moving lumber. A good woman helping is even better. Love that rocking chair. Is it wicker? Rocking chairs are very Zen for meditation.
Re: stove top 14:26 Learned this from a housing inspector in military housing years ago: put top, oven racks, anything with heat hardened grease in a black garbage bag. Pour in enough ammonia to make about an inch depth when bag laid flat on its side. Seal off with twist tie. Leave flat overnight or about 8-10 hours. Fumes should loosen grease enough to easily wipe off with minimal scrubbing. Worked all those years ago. Good luck.
FYI: Old french fry oil is not healthy! It contains "advanced glycation end products" These are associated with inflammation, oxidative stress, and likely cancers. Reusing some things like bacon grease is ok, (although bacon has its own issues) but use fresh oil for fries. Still not entirely healthy...It will still have some AGEP but much less than the reused stuff. Use the old fry oil for a lamp or other non-food use preferably outside.
Love your videos Jay! I'm so excited for you both and happy to be along for this journey with you! For the stove top try oven cleaner or baking soda and vinegar
Your cabin stays so cold in the deep Winter that you can bring your propane cylinder inside. That would ensure that the LP would vaporize and supply your stove with enough pressure/volume to run it. If you're concerned about your cylinder popping-off, you can always put a hose on the pressure-release valve with a hose clamp and run it through the wall to the outside.
Rome was built little by little.. You too will construct your vision of an empire in the middle of north nowhere. Good luck and keep on going. You guys are an inspiration. Can't wait to see the next ep.
To clean your stove top; Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and Bar Keepers Friend. Don't scrub like crazy - you don't want to scratch the enamel. Work at it slow and steady and keep soaking the whole time. :)
Having the Epic Doggos and War Department as a part of your video's is super cool. You did the right thing with the new Chainsaw was a super good move. I would say again, you really should upgrade the core generator as a whole, and also expand your solar band a bit with your amp/watt delivery. You have been doing projects on the verge. I do hope you have a bit more in the budget for investment. You are already doing a great job. Just be careful as always. Love your channel and you have my support 100%!
@ Jay Legere For clearing that cooked on mess off of the stove top, try hitting it with oven cleaner (Easy Off), let it soak a while, and then hit it with a wet scotch-brite pad. A couple of passes should do it.
Cabins looking absolutely fantastic! Really loving how the loft is coming along, love the idea of the cut of tree being used as a spot for a tea/coffee and maybe even a good book. Keep up the great work!! 😀
For stove cleaner - The Pink Stuff found @ hardware store, local supermarket(cleaner products isle). Use on stove top, oven, surface cookers, car scratches, bathroom surfaces, etc.
It's always a treat to watch your videos, I just love them! About that stain on the burners, try making a paste of baking soda and venigar, apply and leave afew minutes, it should work...
If all else fails, a bit of Comet cleanser should work or even Soft Scrub. It looks like the glaze of the porcelain is long since gone, so the bleach in either product would be able to have a chance to work on the stain. The abrasive in them would probably dispatch and surface "ick" rather handily.
Small propane tank with a range the size you have will struggle at times . The problem is that the tank will freeze up depending on the outside temp as well as how high you run your stove . When propane gets to the point it is liquid rather than gas this problem becomes severe . A larger propane tank will help control this problem.
Spray oven cleaner on the top then cover it with cyran wrap so it stays wet. Give it an hour and use a dish scrubber while the oven cleaner is still on then rinse. I use that on my stove top every three months.
Just use oven cleaner...that stuff will dissolve right away...You can also be sure to dry the potatoes with a paper towell and get that same crisp! You can also bake them if you sprinkle the raw potatoes with cooking oil...YUMMY!
Jay, try double frying your fries. Put them in and prefrying take them out and let them cool then finish frying for a crispy out side and tender inside.
Awesome. Slow and steady. Always make it comfortable for the other half. Its always better that way. can't do it all one weekend. The journey is the important part, not the end result. Keep up the great work on the videos. Sos pads on the stove may do the trick. Worked on my stove. Love the food also lol
Spray thick coat of easyoff on the stove top and place in in a enclosed bag for 8 hours and that should do the trick. When you sharpen your chain you should also use a flat file on the rakers every second filing. The rakers grab in to the wood and makes cutting so much easier.
Take the top of that stove home with you . Try using a soap impregnated pad, ( Brillo or SOS pads) to try and scrub it up clean . Presumeably it's not all rust, but cooked on food . You could even let it soak in your bath tub in a mild water/soap solution over night, then try the SOS pad . If that doesn't come clean, you may be able to find another top plate for the stove .
I use a razor blade. To scrape burnt on stuff on the top of the stove. If it has the porslin coating, it doesn't strip it off. I have done twice to my stove in the kitchen it's about 28 years old. It looks new
Another tip on French fries. Deep fry them twice. 60 second to 1 1/2 minutes the first time, let cool completely and then deep fry until your favorite level of doneness. I like extra crispy French fries and that's how I get them to my favorite crispy doneness.
To clean the stove, try ash from the fire place, a little water and a paper towel...this solution also works to clean the soot off the front glass of the fireplace without scratching the glass ...can't hurt to give it a try
Jay, are you using ear protection with those power tools? Having lost half of my hearing due to such noise exposure over the years, protecting your hearing is very important. Of course, being able to say to my wife that I didn't hear her comes in handy from time to time.
Just s tip to try to get rid of those stains on the stove: spray oven cleaner, cover with the food plastic wrap (sorry, i'm not sure how to say it in english... saran wrap maybe?) to keep it moist and let it sit for half an hour. Then scrub the hell out of it.
I've been watching a few of your videos. RE: chainsaws, they are only good if they are sharp and an innocent mistake can make them dull and not cutting. Find a local shop that can make you custom chains for your saws dimensions, and order several (like 3 or 4) back up chains. That and learning how to safely sharpen them on the saw counting the strokes on each tooth and safety,, will keep you running for the winter. Looks like you are having fun. I will keep watching with envy. Cheers from Peterborough.
If you’d like really crispy fries soaking in water is a good method… but I’d prefer half to 3 quarter baking them , let cool and slice into fries no rinse in between… crispy on the outside soft and fluffy inside
Regarding your propane stove issue. From your description, to me it doesnt sound like and outdoor temperature issue. its not the tank thats too cold. A propane tank will function fully down to -40F at -44F the gaseous propane in the bottle condenses into a liquid, propane bottles are under pressure no gas no go. The issue seem more likely to be water in the propane regulator. (The propane regulator is the round part that one one end you screw onto the tank and the outlet is the black hose.) Which is caused, most likely by 2 things, either 1. condensation forming on the metal tip inside the black plastic screw tank connector and getting blasted in to the reg when you opened the bottle, (from being brought from a heated space into cold outdoor temps quickly. ) 2. water from snow got in either the tank outlet or the screw on the regulator. A few drops of water is enough to trip up the regulator. Just turn the tank off unscrew it, check for any moisture, and check the metal tip in the middle of the black screw connector amke sure thats bone dry as well. hook it back up and it should work. Also, if the regulator does keep having flow issues intermitantly, its not the appliance its the regulator, you can buy easy replacement hose combos online. Home this helps!
