I had a Chinese Dwarf hamster, named Sugar Cube, who was like a member of the family, I kid you not. She was very tame, very smart, and very social with humans. I had to take her to the vet every so often to have her teeth filed down and she would sit patiently on the examining table by herself and hold her mouth open for the vet to do her work. I could go on and on telling stories about Sugar Cube. She was truly special, and we still miss her! 💕
My son had a dwarf hamster named Scribbles. The hamster would use his plastic log like an elevator. When he saw my son, Scribbles would walk into the log, then wait for my son to lift the log out of the cage and slide Scribbles into his hand. Scribbles loved to run around my son’s room and up and down his arms and legs. He also loved a good rub with a soft toothbrush right on top of his head. He would melt into a little puddle of fluff. He was a great pet.
Sounds like you have a book to write. ❤ Thank you for reminding me... My niece had a special needs guinea pig named Alex. He had a neurological disorder & did this odd, sudden spin at times, but - apart from that - the vet said he was ok. When I'd go visit, we'd hang.. Tho I've had dozens of pets - dogs, cats, birds and horses - I loved that wee rodent in a special way. Can't forget his sweet black eyes looking back at me. ✨ Found myself thinking how he'd pick up on love - my heart felt full - bigger, even, just being near him. I used to worry that he didn't have another one to play with, but between my sister and her daughter - and me - he seemed content. Sure wish every pet were loved in a family. Dodo™ vibes matter, I guess... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now if they'd just stop showing folks riding around with unrestrained animals in cars because what can happen is sooo awful. Kindly pass it on. It just takes one time to find out how airbags can kill or how pets become missiles at only 30 MPH wrecks. Thanks for your forbearance to anyone who read this Ancient Mariner 2.0. 😂❤🐾😸🐶🙏🚗
macaronmommy I had a russian dwarf, Lil Redge - he had the same thing. One afternoon he was awake pawing at his cage in such a way I knew something was up so I took him out. He started chewing on my palm like he was starving but I didn't feel any teeth. I opened his mouth and to my horror his teeth were curled to the roof of his mouth! I rushed him to the vet for his teeth snipping and had that done every couple months or so. Love the dwarfs - such personalities!
That is the chillest hamster I've ever seen ❤ It's so good to see hamsters being treated like the mini kings & queens that they are! No wonder he's such a happy boi 🐹❤
My daughters little hamster was exactly like this. They had an incredible bond. He lived 3.5 years. Kissed and snuggled us one last time and went to sleep. ❤😢
This must be a dad thing. I had hamster in high school named Gilbert. My dad would come home from work, grab Gilbert from his cage, a bowl of pretzels and sit down to watch the nightly news. My dad would put a few tiny bits of pretzel and Gilbert his his shirt pocket and they would hang out until dinner. 😊
Yes!!!! Someone who posts about a hamster AND SHOWS PROPER HAMSTER CARE! The detolf cage for popcorn with varied substrates, live plants, cork logs, and a multi chamber box ❤❤❤❤❤
When I was growing up, my younger sister was a hamster whisperer. I think there may be a picture somewhere of my Dad in his business suit, with her hamster sleeping on his shoulder. Thanks for bringing back good memories.
I can’t imagine being so small of a creature and not being completely terrified of these giants in my life. The fact that he is so relaxed around him really just goes to show how safe and cared for he feels. Amazing.
Yes, it’s so sad they go so fast, but they do teach us about enjoying and loving the moment, treating them with the best possible care so that their short lives are worth a 100. Sweet pets that can teach us so much about how fragile these sweet creatures are ❤
@@PorcelainxMe LOL. I admit I do have a fear of rodents but we had biteygerbils when we were kids & it was scary to even try to hold them - but I love them & think they're so cute! I wish I could get over my fears
I took a hamster that someone didn't want anymore. He was my little buddy and I had him for a few years. I remember just before he died he was having a very hard time keeping his balance. I still miss my little buddy when I think about him. I buried him in a box I made in woodshop class out in the front yard.
That cage is the most elaborate, ginormous cage I have ever seen for a hamster, and I work with a small animal rescue. Incredible to see dad and daughter put so much effort into providing an enriching environment for their little fluffy friend!
Just a good ol' Ikea detolf :) very popular hamster cage hack. I have one too. People should realize the tiny plastic cages in the pet stores are not normal, and very cruel.
There is an excellent channel for hamster care called ‘Victoria ‘. She goes through all sorts of options for appropriate hamster enclosures depending on budget and species. Generally bigger is better, but there are some specific things to be wary about such as extra protection against falling for some, greater burrowing depth for some, bigger wheels for some, more sand for some etc. it’s very interesting and more attainable than you might think at first glance.
This is beautiful beyond words. I hope Chris and Lily will consider more hamsters when they are ready. Popcorn's lifespan has probably passed by now, but he obviously was insanely happy with his life, his loving family, and his beautiful home.
Yea, hamster are too adorable and they make good pets.. He has found his love in him as they shared memmories together! This guy has compassion and he do loves animals❤ He is too comical, and Popcorn adores him..😂
I had a hamster just like this little guy. I was 27 years old. I called him Wibble. I saved him from a house full of cats! Hamsters only live 3&1/2 years. Too short. I loved him like he was my kid❤❤
The home they had for him was perfect…they love to tunnel and they really do need a ton of floor space to run around. Teddy bear hamsters are really the best out of the hamsters, I think to have. Rats are super smart too. This video was perfect, thanks.
They are sentient little souls, full of love to give. What’s wonderful is, these two soulmates have found each other, and their bond is showing people how lovely hamsters are!
I had 3 hamsters growing up, but the first one, Nibbles, was by far the most special. She was incredibly cuddly, playful, and smart. She 100% knew her name. She could sleep through normal daytime noises but as soon as you said her name she would perk up. We put her in her hamster ball twice a day and she would run across the house to you if you called for her. She would even run to the door if it opened or the doorbell rang like a dog. We didn't let out if she had food in her cheeks so there would be times she would be playful but with her cheeks full, and all you had to do was sort of lightly pet her cheeks and within a minute or two she would spit it out into a corner of the cage and come back running.
That is like the calmest hamster I ever seen. I have kept two hamsters before and as soon as I take them out of their cage they want nothing to do with me and run away.
I've had hamsters for years but have never seen anything like this. It's amazing. I think Popcorn is obviously very special. Also animals go by energy. So this must be a very kind man.
You have learned thru Popcorns love, devotion and understanding that all animals, even those that may seem tiny or insignificant....are truly are brothers and sisters❤
I had a similar experience with my daughters hampster. She used to chill with me all the time and go to sleep tucked into my t-shirt by my neck. Such a shame they only live for a few years. RIP Rosie 2.
Hamsters are just wonderful pets. I had hamsters for years and there are so many great memories with them. I am older now, so don't have any now, but they are just sweet, gentle little creatures. I love that his guy loves this hammie so much. :)
That is the cutest and chilled 🐹 I ever seen! My two grand hammies wasn't that calm, they wouldn't stay still for nothing. They helped me a lot during Covid when we couldn't go out and had a curfew. I miss my two grand hammies everyday @we have their⚱️ wish they'd live longer. I hope to see all of my past and present babies @The 🌈🌉 one day. 😢
Melts my heart. Most people don't realize hamsters are amazing pets. Had 2 albino growing u, super loving and gentle creatures. Makes we want to go to the pet store and by one.
props to mom and dad for doing research and giving him a tank big enough tank with the right enrichment this is how animals act when given the right care. this makes my heart so full❤🐹
I absolutely love this. You've got to be the most authentic guy I have ever seen in a video. Popcorn knows who you are and loves you too. Animals read people better than any human can. He's "chill" because he's very content, and he's content because he trusts you and feels cared for. They're smarter than we give them credit for. I love what you did with your daughter too. Fantastic video.
I'd like to have an endless-loop film of this little hamster yawning, shot from several different angles. Until then, my life will not be complete. ❤ so cute.
Thank you to this channel and the people who share their animal stories. I did not realize the variety of animals that are smart and affectionate and would care to spend their time in our company.
That’s why I couldn’t own one! It’s bad enough when ever I have lost one of my dogs! But luckily they usually have a good long lifespan! I couldn’t handle being heartbroken every couple of years. But I love the little critters none the less ❤
Reminds me of my hammy Bubbles. Got him for my kids but he bonded with me. He gave me nose kisses everyday, took naps with me. He escaped his cage a couple times just to come find me to climb up and snuggle. One night I forgot to take him to say goodnight to my daughter and he broke out of the cage and climbed up her bed. He never tried to run away he just wanted to be with me. He was pretty special. He lived longer than most, which the vet was shocked about. I held him as he passed. I cried for weeks missing him as my daily companion for years.
“Rodents” are the best kind of pets a human can have! I have a rabbit and the bond him and I have grown to have, is unlike anything I’ve ever known! A human has to EARN their trust and it doesn’t happen overnight. Its a bond that grows over time and one I’ll forever cherish! 💜
Hamsters meant the world to me for many years ajd even though ive taken a step back from pet owning (temporarily), theyll always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for displaying the love and nuance these little nuggets can have, and showing that theyre more than children's pets, and deserve to be treated as such.
We had a Syrian hamster when my daughter was younger and he was the greatest hamster ever! His favourite thing was Saturday mornings when we would all be around for a morning cup of tea around the table and he would sit with us and eat Bourbon biscuits! He lived for 3 wonderful years and is still missed and talked about 10 years later.
Hamsters really are a lot of fun to have around. It's one thing to see them being cute in their cages, but they really do blossom when they're given free run of human spaces.
I just had to put my Syrian Hamster of nearly 3 years to sleep recently, coming back to this video gives me warmth and comfort. My hamster was almost like this, I miss him.
I miss having pets to snuggle with. I can’t manage one currently because of my mental state but Popcorn sure does remind me of my hamster Daisy. What a sweetie he is ❤
Anyone gonna tell him they only live 2 years 😢 I had a huge connection to my rats (I would literally carry them in my full tummy pockets and that sheet hurt when they left.
Even though they pass on, the love doesn't have to stop. When I learned that rats could laugh when you tickled their belly, I looked at them differently.
