I can only imagine how much the debris removal cost them. They had to fill up a bin or two ... or three or four. That house looked like it belonged to a hoarder. Which probably was a good thing in the long run. Kept the vandalism over the years to a minimum. Nobody wanted to go into a house full of debris.

As i'm watching this i'm really impressed with some of the craftsman ship I see. However I cannot believe that there Has been permits pulled and inspection done for the plumbing and the electric and the insulation. So many basic violations as far as the plumbing goes and the installation wouldn't keep out anything. But if that's what code is in that area guess it's done o k.

I have to agree. The only way this project was even viable is that the house was sold for so cheap. Fortunately, there were no major issues with the foundation, roof, plumbing, or even HVAC. All of which would have added huge additional expenses to the project. Did they make a profit? I'm sure they did. But this also came with a huge risk.

Wow, loved watching this. So glad they didn't rip all the walls down, brought them to the studs and then new drywall. I personally hate open concept. (We also know who started that mess on HGTV). Of course they just had to have white cabinets in the kitchen. Notice that old-fashioned stove in the basement at around 4:35 minutes? That will be worth something. Would love to have a restored version of that.

Was all that debris left by one family or individual over decades? Or was this house the neighborhood's dumping ground? Whichever it was, I find my admiration for the dedicated and thorough work done by this team, overwhelmed and tempered by the depressing thoughts imagining what came before, and all the decisions that were made by and happenstances occurring to those previous tenants resulting in that unliveable dumpster. Even as we pass through the cleaned, disinfected and thoroughly renovated house, I sense that their ghosts may linger.

@@LPnerd thats a "new method". Back in the day when i used to do bathroom remodels, it was common to replace the greenboard (which was originally used) with cement board. Green board is only water "resistant" due to a waxy layer applied on the board in manufacturing it. This would eventually fail esp if used in shower locations depending on the mud and grout job of the tile placed on top of the board. "Greenboard" back then was simply drywall gypsum boards with the waxy layer. And, i agree - the newer methods (foam boards) are a better in either case

@davek5777
@davek5777 5 месяцев назад
@@LPnerd Make sure you hire a licensed/registered and insured contractor to do the job. TBH, cement board or even "Hardi board", i would say is a tried and true way to do a tub or shower surround. Before contractors even started using greenboard (which simply is just drywall board) in bathrooms, the old-timers would nail wire mesh to the studs and then actually Trowel on cement to the mesh to about 3/8-3/4" thick. Then, they'd apply tile to that surface once dry. They even did this on the "non-wet" locations in the bathroom. This way was done until the 1970-1980s. And, it was solid. So, cement board imitates this method. I've never been a fan of Pex (plastic water lines) or spray foam (highly flammable). Copper pipes and cement board are two variations that have survived the test of time.

This house did not cost $5K. Those men working with hazmat suits get extra haz pay and those carpenters and roofers also need to get paid. Before anyone moves into this house it will cost $150K

Of course it didn't cost him $5k after all said and done with the work that his team put in. $5k is what it cost him to attain the abandoned property in the first place.

The title says the house was bought for $5k. It was renovated after. Of course that is an entirely separate cost.

Why are many houses in the USA timber built? They started it now over here, many buyers have complained they have all sorts of problems with them. I definitely would rather live in a brick built house, even better I live in a 1795 stone build house the walls are 3 foot wide.
@unsatsoupsandwich
@unsatsoupsandwich 5 месяцев назад
Homes in the United States are built with cement blocks or in this case bricks, and the interior is framed with lumber. There are homes still standing in the US from the 1800's. It's all about how you take care of your home.

The property you’re buying is the land you’re building on so unless this is Detroit I don’t buy the $5k price tag.

Really was so cool to see. I think any house purchase can turn into one giant economical catastrophe LOL.. but.. these guys made this look so easy! What a great renovation. I love the cherry floors * my favorite redo: The bath with that beautiful white tile install and the strip of pale gray within. Very classy looking. I love the colors you chose .. very clean and nice!

So what happened to the house? Took 3 months to fix up. Cost? Do you live in it or sell. Cheaper to fix or build new? Is this a job or labor of love? Bet neighbors are happy. How much is it now? What state? Nice 3 bedroom house. Parking? Nice advice you have in the video. Good luck that's hard work.

How is description of the actions and their benefits propoganda? Because they mentioned sustainability? Maybe you should look up the definition of the word instead of politicizing it.

Not sure it's propaganda. But yeah, it is annoying. And I think it's more that they were stating fairly obvious things like "the backyard is extra living space, and renovations create job opportunities " we get it. I didn't particularly like how they installed fence posts without cement
