Apparently he had a cut on head with some blood in water...not sure if he hit his head on surfboard (or very shallow sandbar) which knocked him out causing him to drown...nobody else was in the water. Happened last Sunday at minus tide around 1pm...surfline cameras have been reviewed also...show him going down suddenly on a wave and not coming back up. A tragic loss. RIP Evan!

So we don't have a "cause of death" clearly expressed, here. Sunday was already dropping swell from the peak on Friday and Saturday. Was this a "medical emergency" that just happened to occur while he was surfing? Was this a tragic accident, that occurred because he was surfing? The report doesn't really make that clear. Lots of young people have recently "died suddenly", with 'no cause listed'... Which naturally leads to speculation, about the rising numbers of "all-cause mortality" - particularly amongst the young and athletic.
@JeremiahAlphonsus
@JeremiahAlphonsus Год назад
Exactly. No cause of death really mentioned. He must therefore have died of “Suddenly,” that mysterious ailment going around that has nothing to do, of course, with any vax.
@anotherworldviewispossible
@anotherworldviewispossible Год назад
@@JeremiahAlphonsus I did a search and found a slightly more detailed narrative of the incident on "Stab", an Australian surf magazine/website. It sounds like he was surfing alone, at more remote peak, and was seen on camera standing up and then falling down, without much explanation. He never collected his board or paddles after that. It sounds like there was contact to his head, with his board, or the bottom. But that doesn't explain why he falls down, and fails to protect himself. Did he lose consciousness after getting to his feet? Was there a cardiac arrest? We just don't know. Additionally, his jab status is unclear. And now we are forced to rely upon the OC Health Department to investigate and then report their findings, truthfully...which isn't always 'a given'. I doubt they're ever going to mention his shot count, if any.

While mostly a sandy bottom break, Salt Creek does in fact have the occasional rock grouping here or there throughout the lineup and break. Outer Salt is unmistakeable bc it breaks on bigger swells directly in front of several large rocks and ledges...between there and the shore - hundreds of yards- is mostly all soft sand but any local will tell you watch out exiting the water in certain spots bc of the random isolated hidden rock...always made a mental note of where these were when I surfed there. Rip brother.

Search his name + Dana Point. There's a few more details in an article on the Australian site - "Stab". Apparently there's video from a surf cam. It seems fairly inexplicable. He stands up, he falls down. He never moves after that point. It sounds like his head was struck, either on the bottom or the board... But we don't have compelling evidence as to why he went down, or why he failed to protect his head. Did he suffer a loss of consciousness as he stood up? Was it a "SADS" cardiac event? Or - was he just unlucky and caught by surprise by something? It seems unlikely, to me, that a good rider, who surfed the Wedge, Puerto Rico and Mexico - gets killed by typical surf at Salt Creek. But we have too many unanswered questions, to tell what this was, presently. Had he received the full number of injections, recommended by the CDC?

Creek was my home break all my life. On the really huge swells, it will get super hollow over at “gravels” which is enticing… but you can tell when you’re looking at some of them just how shallow it can in that spot on big days because the wave will turn solid brown from all the sand being sucked up, meaning you know it is only inches deep. I’ve gotten slammed there very badly a few times. I’m not sure if that’s where he fell or not, but just as a 30 year Salt Creek local that would be my guess. I’ve also seen people hit rocks on huge days over at the point that wraps around from Creek to Strands, because you have to catch them in deeper water at that spot which seems safe, but then you’re moving so fast those rocks come up quicker than you’d think. Combine that with double or triple overhead and it’s bad news.

Being knocked unconscious is the ultimate danger in big surf.… In big surf especially at a beach break, it’s usually a death sentence because your brain has you trying to breathe underwater while you’re out.. and your only hope if you don’t regain consciousness from cough reflexes triggering is to get pulled out within a couple minutes and have CPR performed. Just the other day a pro surfer was knocked unconscious during a contest at Pipeline. He was pulled out just a couple min after being knocked out and still nearly died , ending up in the ICU on a ventilator.

God Bless. As a bodyboarder & surfer myself, this hurts to hear. Was he bodyboarding when he passed?

Riding a surfboard at Creek, “Gravels” 2 foot wave. Brown water after the big rain. Unfortunately it was on the Surfline cam and a friend sent it to me. Watched it then deleted it. Glad though I saw it. I surfed with him back when he was younger before I moved but honestly to me it looked like his leash got snagged on something under water pulled him off his board just as he was getting up to stand and went down head first. To me and it’s just what I think, it looked to be a large Log or tree submerged under water. I believe he hit his head. Saw no struggle. Didn’t even know it happened. Nobody was near him so nobody saw. Complete freak accident. I Think what Evan would say though it’s probably best not to surf after a heavy rain when there can be branches and tree trunks floating in the line up. God bless his family. He was such a nice young man.

@@scottycartercom Oh man, that sucks. Surfing next to floating logs is the worst. I’ve served next to them and brown water and scared the crap out of me set would come, and it would rise up out of the water.

Warning! surfing in the sea is really dangerous. I am not doing any surfing in the sea because I know that's really dangerous. DO NOT RISK YOUR LIFE.

I was reading the comments and my fears happen to be true. He did hit the bottom . Wow, whata rough way to go . This is a big time tragedy! I can’t even begin to reflect on the impact his family is feeling ! My heart felt condolences go out to all the friends and family . While I dnt know the kind fellow personally, I still feel he paid the ultimate price and passed on doin what he loved . Peace and love to all involved! I hope your next life is full of perfect waves …..
