The Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday afternoon that it has made an arrest in a bus crash that left eight people dead and 38 others injured. Read live updates here: www.wftv.com/news/local/troop...
Because cars are made to protect the passengers mostly from head on collisions. Since the car that causes the crash is moving forward and the car it hits is often hit at an angle the safety systems and crumple zones in the victim vehicle aren’t optimized to protect the people in it. In this case it was a POS bus which likely had no seatbelts and wasn’t very safe anyway.

What many people don't realize is that chronic, long term drinkers are often legally drunk ALL THE TIME. My step-dad used to drink nearly a case of "light" beer every night. He got into a single-vehicle accident on his way to work one morning and his doctor told him he was technically legally drunk, even though his last drink was at bedtime the night before. He quit drinking soon after.
At 6:30 AM drunk..?? ? NO WAY: Police always charge bogus charge this is an accident when SPD officer killed someone in a cross sidewalk they laugh ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_j1ELvbZ9O8.htmlsi=gPxzj0VgzdxjOJyq
Let me guess... he is a repeat offender for DUI. No license.. but still able to buy a car and drive. I think the law should be a lot tougher for repeat offenders. They always get out and do it again.
I agree ! I'm sick of Soros paid judges , prosecutors , AG's and DA's ! I sick of repeat offenders and I think maybe it's time these officials get sued for betraying their oaths of office and failure to do the job they were hired or elected to do !
He's left the scene of two other accidents and was in a accident 3 days prior.. he also has many other driving situations on his record.. this has been documented in the court system for a very long time
I’m pretty sure that’s a record though. 8 manslaughter charges at once.. I don’t think they will play games with this guy and give him a bond. BUT I wouldn’t be surprised if they did.
Went from talking about the crash to talking about migrant workers and their pay with benefits. That last half was completely unnecessary. RIP to those people who were on their way to work.
What are the odds⁉️ He's just a "good ole boy, not mean no harm to anybody". I don't give a 💩 who you are. If you drive drunk you are totally responsible for whatever happens. Nobody holds a gun to your stupid head to make you drink. There is a absolutely no excuse for your ignorant stupidity. 😡
It’s also deceiving because farm workers are routinely taken advantage of and underpaid. The farms are almost never investigated so they get away with it.
Even the comment about having to work 6 days a week - it’s 6 hours/day from 8am to 2pm, so 36 hours/week and less than what most people call a work week.
That's terrible that he caused the death and injuries of all those people due to his ignorance by driving while drunk! If anyone wants to drink alcohol then stay home and do that, no one deserves to lose their lives or sustain serious injuries over your stupidity!
Yeah!!! My husband would wait until 6pm every day after work and after having to do any sort of driving (shopping, pick up kids, ect)!!! At squadron picnic parties (Navy), I was his designated driver!!! It doesn't hurt to admit that you are drunk and can't see a straight line with pink elephants walking on it!!! Ask for a ride!!! Otherwise KARMA will catch up to you like it did with this guy!!! This guy has probably never been caught or when/if he was he just got a slap on the wrist!!!
Stop treating DUI’s as if it was just a mistake. These should all be bench trials as juries tend to put themselves in the place of the drunk and don’t want to set precedence for hard time for drunks.
Exactly right. I served on a jury that had a hard time convicting an obviously drunk driver -- BECAUSE several jurors admitted that THEY occasionally drove drunk. We argued for hours before we convinced those drunk-driving jurors to convict. Then the judge gave her a suspended sentence! So -- no punishment except a day in court. With sobriety test and breathalyzers and blood tests, DUI is cut-and-dried. There is no gray area. There are no excuses, no mitigating circumstances to drive drunk. Bench trial would work. It’s OBVIOUS when the defendant is guilty, no chance they arrested the wrong guy or he had a good excuse.
DWIs probably never go to trial unless they’re high profile. The DWI is pleaded down to something minor resulting in a slap on the wrist. Our justice system is broken.
I have one DUI on my record from several years back. I just wanna go on record and say that the vast majority of us DUI arrests, at least 95% of us, are conpletely ashamed and came to terms with our problem, acknowledged we f*d up, and took steps and actions to make sure we got sqaured away on both the legal side and personal side of how alcohol destroyed our lives. I'm sorry. I still kick myself for allowing my life to get that bad and that deep in the hole of depression and addiction. I hope all my fellow ex-criminals find peace and NEVER drink and drive again!
I appreciate your disclosure…but 95% is absolutely not the correct statistic. The recidivism for DUI’s is much much higher! Minimum estimates come in at 25%. Others as high as 40% repeat offenders who get caught! As you know, only a small percent ever get pulled over! Another “sobering” statistic is that most people drive drunk 80 times before getting a ticket!! Of all the laws broken, the recidivist of DUI’s is among the most common of all crimes!
Many of us have driven drunk before. I certainly did in my early 20's. Luckily, I never got a DUI, and changed my ways before it became a tragedy. You are not alone in shame, I certainly regret my driving habits. I'm just glad we both came out of it without hurting others or ourselves.
I’m glad you realized and regretted. But the vast majority of those arrested for DUI are repeat offenders, often with 10 or more arrests before any punishment is applied. I don’t drink at all and never have. But I have known dozens of people who do it regularly at bars and parties and then drive home drunk. Most don’t get caught, and the few who have been got a slap on the hand. One of my own cousins drove home so drunk one night that someone else had to start the car for him because he couldn’t figure out how. He (a professional man)continued drunk driving until he died of a heart attack at age 42.
@@bixbysnyder-00No, MOST OF US haven’t! That’s a common excuse -- everybody does it. No, we don’t. But the ones who do get caught get a slap on the wrist .
I would NEVER cover for this POS, but maybe graveyard shift worker? I used to work graveyard. Got off my 10 hour shift around 7am. Like any normal person I’d want a beer after working “all day”. You definitely get some weird looks buying beer first thing in the morning 😂
Try 50% Here in SoCal, people give absolutely zero fks and drive like they're the only ones on planet earth. Like they're will smith in Legend or something.
Tragic is an understatement. I agree with you, how is it that in this day and age, With all these options of Transportation alternatives, people are STILL drinking and driving?!?! Now because of his selfish, egotistical, deplorable actions... These workers, here working their asss off to support their families, are now gone.
We will soon learn that Brian Howard has 20 previous DUI arrests and each time a judge immediately released him to continue his drunk driving over and over and over again that's how it works. The investigation should include why judges continually release known drunk drivers back out into the public along with investigation of prosecutors who let this go on and on
Because the middle and upper classes can trip up and get a DUI. It is treated differently so that the state's attorney can ease up on offenders that he can identify with. Why do we let bars have parking lots? We could have zero tolerance for any drinking and driving, but we want to have one with the guys after work on Friday, Uber every weekend gets expensive. So, try to keep under .08.As bad as this was things are a lot better than they used to be thanks to MADD.
Yup I've ridden in those busses when all I could find was part-time seasonal work. I wanted full time job to be able to pay bills. Something I never thought I would do again. That's very sad.
I presume the driver of the truck was unscathed. When will some people realize the potential consequences of their driving while intoxicated? Eight people dead. That's a horrible toll for the driver's lack of regard.
Could have also been lacking "good ;eft eye vision??" Condolences to those families affected by this accident, but the The truck did not "collide" with the bus , it side swiped it by driving over the division line, and then " collided" with a TREE! NEWSCASTERS just LOOK at the movement you're is actually displaying before you try to DESCRIBE it. The BUS WAS CAUGHT OFF GUARD and lost it's normal direction. A serious accident but not a "collision." Ocala is the thoroughbred capitol of the US. (not Lexington, Ky btw) I'm surprised we have not heard of horse trailers having "collided" with other vehicles.
🤨Why are they concentrating on the victims - going ALL out to find out their background? THEY didn't do anything illegal - they are the victims! WHY not showcase that good ol boy, bubba - he's the killer of those innocent men😠 What's the story on him - where is he from, was he legally licensed, how many prior DUI's? What about his family? Any felons within that family, any rapists, any other DUIs😠
Where is he coming from? Probably on his way to the bar with vodka and his coffee, as there headed to a job for grueling work. He's probably had multiple duis. Anyone that's had 1 or more DUIS, should be FORCED to have a breathalyzer to start their car, for the rest of their lives. But he probably kind of suspended license anyways.
Lengthy investigation that will take months?? The guy was drunk and driving in the middle of the road forcing the bus to veer off to the side causing it to crash! That's it! End of investigation!
Some of the FHP troopers take extensive accident reconstruction training. If that defendant goes to trial, he will have an expert witness with an engineering degree to put the fault on the bus driver. Evidence gathering at the scene and studying the crash damage of each vehicle are critical in making an analysis today's "CSI viewing" jury will believe beyond a reasonable doubt. Most crash investigating troopers get training, but that doesn't make them engineers who understand physics and get paid $25k or more per trial to persuade a jury.
No matter how horiffic the crime, every American is Constitutionally guaranteed the right to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury of their peers in a court of law. The purpose of the lengthy investigation is to ensure that that happens.
It's very difficult to request a 15% revenue increase for your police force every year if you don't have legions of cops roaming around a crime scene as well as a spokesman repeating the words "safety" and "investigation" while the news cameras are running.
They have to investigate... Yes the man was driving under the influence and he was wrong... but what if he wasn't drunk, then what... people come over in my lane all the time probably due to cellphone or something, but you have to control your vehicle the best you can... and if this bus was not properly maintained, like brakes or tires not being in good condition, it means, theres other issues here... those buses look old too..

The judges that let this guy walk free after so many charges over the years should be made to pay restitution and funeral cost to these families. The people in authority are to blame for their bad judgement.
My heart breaks for all the victims 😢 Losing a loved one is unimaginable pain! To the families who lost their loved ones, Sending you my deepest condolences during this difficult time! RIP!
Because of lenient judges. If everyone with his first DUI had to spend a minimum of 6 months in jail, people would be less likely to drive drunk. As it is, most DUI convictions result in SUSPENDED SENTENCE or TIME SERVED. So -- NO PUNISHMENT, NO PENALTY.

It’s such a shame this news station (and one of the officials in Marion) felt the need to _repeatedly_ drive home the fact the DEAD & INJURED VICTIMS of this drunk psycho are here legally working under visas. Would their lives be worth less or would Howard’s criminal actions be less egregious if they were here illegally? I’m a native Floridian and let me tell you, in 4.5 decades of life I have never heard the news have to work so hard to remind us that victims deserve justice and sympathy. This segment was embarrassing to watch.
A tragedy. To the point, they were migrant workers. Perhaps the prior comment had to do with the fact they were people first, as well as migrant workers. We lose sight of that as many will enjoy watermelon this Memorial Day never considering where it comes from or who picked it. Hint: It didn't come from Mara "Lardo"
Because everyone loves a good bleeding heart story about oppressed "migrants". It sells "newspapers". Liberals love it. Had it been a busload of White conservatives on the way to a Donald Trump rally, there would be parties in the streets and very little coverage.
...because those are the facts? Migrant workers doesn't mean illegally here... they are actually saying those hard working people were here legally and we're killed by a drunk American early in the morning of all times... I hope the families they were trying to support get paid. This equates to an international incident.
What does the hotel or the farm have to do with anything? A drunk caused a very big, tragic accident. Now he will go to jail, rightfully so. I would have liked to here about the drivers past. Other dui's?
@@therose5783 I don't think they were victim blaming. It looks to me that they were clearly explaining how the workers had legal status, to reduce the outcry of "illegals!" from the ignorant, to reduce some of the public's impulse to blame the workers.
@@therose5783 News works by publishing a report as soon as they acquire some facts, then publishing updates every time they get some more facts. If they wait until they know everything about a situation and then report it all at once, thats not "news". Stay tuned.
Keep the victims families in your thoughts. Most of those workers are usually the main breadwinner in their households. Now they lost their loved one due to a drunk with no regard for human life. And there was no need to report on their legal status, place of work or origin. These were just regular people on their way to work like the rest of us.
Considering all the people who never use the words migrant or alien without the word illegal attached, I think someone does have to remind people that legal migrants do exist. The survivors and the families of the victims have enough to deal with; maybe they could use a little less of "they would be fine if they hadn't invaded" comments.
Sadly, I’m sure he’ll get pled down, because the victims are migrants. Personally, it should be DUI Murder, not manslaughter. Driving drunk is premeditated, in my not so humble opinion.
Has nothing to do with the victims being immigrants, it’s about the laughably inadequate precedent set for DUI murder throughout this country. The mid-west states being the worst
Thirty years of don't drink and drive campaigns in America, millions charged with DUI and worse..... still some choose to do it regardless of circumstances.... So much available now not to drink and drive...get a ride... it's not worth hurting, killing and ruining your own life and others because you want to be drunk and go somewhere...makes no sense...
Alcohol kills 1000's of people a year. Alcohol can not be processed by the human liver, hence the liver dies. But people guzzle it like it was water! 🤷♀️ Good luck with drinking an antiseptic!
1? This guy was drunk first thing in the morning. Most likely he's had multiple DUIS. Wouldn't surprise me if he had a suspended license as well. Don't you think anybody that's had even one dui, should have to use a breathalyzed restart their car for the rest of their life?
Of course he was drunk and survived. Just brutal. My heart to the workers, responders and all that will never be the same after this day. Yay alcoholism! 🇨🇦❤️🙏
I work for a major package delivery service provider, and we have several employees that arrive to work prior to 530am under the influence of drugs and marijuana ... technically a DUI.
Dude just destroyed so many lives and so many families, and had just had an accident days before this one, along with being a multiple DUI perpetrator. Courts need to reign this devastation in.
Many years back my neighbors adult son was a sheriff speeding for no reason without his lights on and killed a migrant worked driving a tractor. His parents stated “ that migrant shouldn’t even be here”. They didn’t care that their son murdered someone.
The crash happened at 6:30 AM, and the driver of the pick-up was charged with "DUI" manslaughter. Most of us would be on the way to work, but sober, even if we had a couple the night before. So, my question is: "Where was this guy coming from, and what was he going to do when he got to where he was going??? As for the rest, I would expect him to plead the usual not guilty.
