I have a unique perspective on the "who should pay on a date thing". I work in hospitality, and nothing is as sweet and a sign of a happy and healthy relationship as when a couple both have their cards out ready to pay and are playfully pushing and wrestling to be the first to pay, it never fails to bring a smile to my face. I'm a guy so when I took a lady out on our first date I just naturally would pay for everything, eventually she caught on to the fact that I was going to pay for everything and decided that wasn't happening so decided to do the "race to pay for something" and that was my first major hint that things were going really really well and that this was someone I wanted in my life. I see it relatively often but having it happen on our first date no less was quite a surprise
