Jemarcus Williams pleaded guilty on April 30 to two counts of DUI causing death after hitting and killing troopers Sgt. Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix.
I agree whole heartedly, I grew up with 2 alcoholic parents. We all was in a serious car accident, nobody killed like these poor people, but the memory still there of us little kids busted up in hospital rooms. The poor families that never get to find peace within it's so sad to look at someone n wonder how in the hell could they not care ? But then I remember being raised by alcoholics. So sad.. God bless them..
What a self serving and self righteous speech he gave. He’s vowing to “speak out against drunk driving” after being convicted of a previous DUI. He sat in on a victim impact panel and went to DUI deterrence classes and it didn’t do anything to keep him from engaging in the same reckless behavior. No one needs to listen to his hollow words. He needs to do hard prison time!

Exactly. 100% preventable. MADD was so active when I was younger, they were the ones who lobbied to get the same drinking age and breathalyzer amounts across the country. I wish they'd lobby now for strong punishment.
I grew up wih the Abbate family. I had not cried regarding this tragedy until watching Judy, Mike and especially Michele, one of my oldest friends speak here. Mine and my families hearts breaks for them. Mike was my birthday buddy, but a year older. Every remaining birthday I have left on earth I will strive to be a better person and will remember and Pray for Mike, Michele and the rest of their family.

That man needs to sit down and shut up. His client hid until security guard was gone. He knew he was in no shape to drive or he would have gotten into his car without hiding. DUI's need to be harsh when a death or injury is involved. I'm sure those 2 State Troopers would have love to gone home to their family. It's about time the legal system send a message to anyone who drink's, take a cab, call your wife, a friend, husband. Just don't DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!!!
I believe Canada has an automatic life sentence for any DUI causing a death. We gave taken a harsher stand on DUI. Wish other countries did too. The UK is a joke. I've seen ppl get 140 pound fine for their 5th offense.
Well past time the law takes these seriously, prosecutors stop dropping and/or reducing charges with bleeding heart judges as well. ENOUGH already. Wake up, they are unliving us, maiming us, destroying our property. Many these with no insurance. Suspending licenses means nothing to them.

My son got an evading charge he never got over 60 miles per hr. The chase lasted for 20 min. They used the car as a deadly weapon. There were no injuries. They gave my son 28 yrs. In 2018 he will not be eligible for parole until 14 yrs This makes me so angry this man got caught twice no telling how many other times he drove drunk and just didn't get caught he killed 2 police officers and didn't stop to render aid after he hit them ,didn't even call it in to police, went home and went to bed and my son has never ever hurt a soul and this man got only16 yrs. for killing 2 police. He will be out in 10 yrs.or less. My son was only barely 30 he's 37 now. I just can't rap my head around this. 16 ?!!! all I can say is Texas must have stricter laws than Las Vegas. Bless those families and I pray they can find some peace .
Why do they allow the person who caused the accident to read a statement obviously written by the attorney? The man should be speaking his own thoughts without having to look at text on a phone or on paper. It looks so fake.
We are never going to have strict penalties for DUI nor killing or maiming people while driving drunk. Frankly, our legislators, most of them attorneys from a highly privileged class to begin with have social lives that very much include alcohol. Whether it be cocktail parties, fundraisers, golf games, alcohol is ever present and could be said to be essential. Many also had college days where they consumed copious amounts of alcohol and they have or will have their own kids attending college and doing exactly the same thing. So, the supermajority of lawmakers certainly don’t want themselves, their colleagues, their kids to be subjected to harsh/er penalties for driving drunk, whether they cause injury or death or not.
I have absolutely no sympathy for this guy, My sister was killed by a drunk driver 42 yrs ago. He served no time. June 13,2024 my oldest niece was killed by a drunk driver. The pain is overwhelming. She had a beautiful family that loved her. Her husband had bad injuries and her youngest daughter who just graduated from medical school was moving to do her internship. Her other children and grandchildren's lives has changed forever. It's like we're reliving the same thing again.
That is so sad! I am so sorry that happened to your family. How terrible!! I never understood why anyone would drink and then get behind the wheel. My cousin's daughter graduated high school 2 years ago. She was driving with her brother and got T-boned by a man who was drunk, ran a red light, had no license, no insurance (of course) and was here illegally from Mexico. The impact shattered her pelvis which took around 50 plates to put back together, and spent months in a wheelchair. Her life is not the same and never will be. They had to use the jaws of life to get her out, and it's a miracle she survived. Of course, being drunk, the man walked away without a scratch! He will pay in the end.
I'm a GenX & a surviving child of a mother who died at the hands of a drunk driver in 1981. 45yrs and it still hurts. I still have night terrors from time to time. My siblings and I got trapped in state control in a foreign country as orphans. We aged out to nothing and our home was gone, so as we aged out we went our seperate ways. The three of us live in three different countries. We had nobody to guide us, advice us, teach or direct us and life was incredibly & I mean incredibly hard. I still have a week of fear every year, as my body clock recognises the anniversary date and I've never been comfortable in a car. Drinking and driving is a choice. Using a key to start a car and drive high and highly intoxicated, is the same as loading a gun in that state and waking down a street shooting at random strangers. Doing this after already having a previous DUI should be seen as attempted murder. My mother's face had to be rebuilt for the coffin. Her boyfriend was decapitated. We were so young surrounded by strangers who spoke with a strong strange accent and our lives took a nose dive. We had to go to the court to be told about insurance by a judge for the driver's insurance company, as we were all minors. There was an inquest and reports. We were sent to schools in a new country and were considered odd, because we were mostly silent. My dreams of going to college and medical school vanished, I had to work when I reached 16. My little brothers advocate, I had to be available to take him in if relatives couldn't be found when he aged out. 8yrs is not much for each devastated life, he might get parole after 16yrs. If you count the next 4 or 5 decades for their kids living without a father, it's a slap on the wrist. I never had a parent. I don't remember being a family and I struggled at trying to be a tactile person. The only good thing.. the driver died on impact.
DUIs should be charged as felony attempted aggravated manslaughter and if they get a 2nd DUI - lock them for 5 year’s minimum. Most DUI drivers are habitual DUI drivers. If we have strict laws for DUIs on the first offense it will help defer repeat offenders.

They should also have their license taken away permanently if they’re on multiple offenses. A lot of people think they have a right to drive. At least to the state of Michigan and most other states that I know driving is not a right you don’t have a right to a driver license. It’s a privilege and you have to maintain that privilege. So it’s not a violation of your rights to take away your license because you don’t have a right to a license so I think once people have gotten multiple offenses, they should no longer have a driver license. It should not be allowed to register a car. I think that would stop some of it flat out. People will still drive but take their cars away. You don’t need a car. You can sell it and use public transportation and if you were really worried about having a ride to work and make a living then you would’ve done the right thing in the first place.
What is wrong with this picture? Defense team has their client sitting there, being present, with an opportunity to state his case. The state attorneys have no clients present, their opportunity to testify was taken away from them, leaving the attorneys with this huge task to seek and ensure justice for their senseless and untimely death of these serving troopers.

No, it isn't exactly murder because these people didn't plan to go out and kill anyone specifically, but their actions lead to the deaths of many people. They should be held accountable. They are dangers to the public. Everyone deserves a second chance. Everyone makes a mistake. You shouldn't get a third, fourth, and fifth chance to kill other people. This man should not be free to drive ever again. If I heard correctly, the most he was going to spend in jail the minimum was 6 years? So that's 12 years total and if he meets the easy to meet goals, that's all he will serve? Not enough. He should get the maximum on both. He didn't take just two lives, he destroyed two whole families.

My deepest Condolences to both families. I cried through everyone speak about their loved ones. Mr. Williams is and was a coward 🤬🤬 leaving two beautiful souls laying in the roadway too die alone. What were those two officers thinking as they laid there in the road. That man should never see the light of day outside of that prison. When is the legal system going to take DUI’s seriously and start giving us a modicum of protection from drunk driver’s. After watching dozens upon dozen these stops and it’s made known it might be their 2,3, 4th because the first 3 only costs some money and maybe probation.

Wow. There has seldom been heard a lamentation of that magnitude at any time in any era of human sadness than by the parents of these officers. Williams couldn't possibly have expected leniency after that outpouring of grief and call for justice.
This one man caused both of these families a lifetime of pain. He cannot be trusted in society and should remain in prison for the duration of his life.
Anyone caught DWI / UDI should be charged automatically with attempted murder when driving public roads..... even though they didn't kill anyone, they took a chance....playing Russian Roulette .......its no different than me shooting in a park and being LUCKY I didn't kill anyone. It doesn't avoid the fact I should be charged with attempted murder and my weapon in this case is a gun instead of vehicle.

A good friend was killed by a drunk driver in the 70s. It was the dudes third and he got 19 mos in jail. She was 16 and had begged her parents to take the car that night to go to the fair and they said no…but she didn’t give up and they relented. I bet they regretted that until the day they died. So sad.

Alcohol was the relief for PTSD nearly 50 years ago before meeting my wife, having my own family, children, and now grandchildren! I proudly served my country as an honorably discharged United States Marine who can no longer own or possess even a single bullet, ever! ... Victimless DUI laws allow taxpayers to keep their driver's license, vehicle, and voting rights but not the gun "Right" to protect family, life, wealth, and home! She was alive for those first couple of days when he said she was "still moveable". Rigor mortis starts around 2 hours after death and peaks at about 12 hours post mortem and the purple skin discoloration he said he saw after the stiffness is called lividity which occurs in the last stage known as livor mortis where discoloration is visible on the skin because the blood has settled due to gravity, causing a bright red color initially and after a few hours, the color changes from red to bluish-purple. This process can take 6 to 8 hours.. How heartbreaking to know she could've been saved if he had just called 911.

This person took 2 lives from their families and all he gets is 16 years??? They were human beings!!! The judicial system is terrible! People are spending many more years to life for drugs and killing people and this person gets a slap on the hand like a child! My condolences to the families and their friends. 😢
