@@ScaryPockets I don't really know how to feel about this. I mean, this video and song makes me really happy. I love Scary Pockets and everyone they collaborate with, but the last live show I went to before Covid put a stop to live music was Ghost-Note here in LA, and I actually got to meet Mono Neon before their set. He was hanging out by the sound booth in the back of house when the BBC (Brandon Brown Collective) was doing their opening set. I couldn't believe he was just hanging out there, and apparently nobody else in the venue realized it. I got to tell him how much I like Ghost-Note and his bass playing (even though I had never seen them play live yet, I had watched lots of their concert videos on RU-vid, including them being the house band for the Zildjian Live series) and he was really nice to me. Anyway, I think this is the first time I've seen him playing with you guys, and I just wanted you to know that it brought back a really good memory that seems so distant now even though January 2020 wasn't that long ago (seriously, fuck Covid!). Jack, I just want to apologize for not coming to the Scary Pockets gig when you played here in LA. I had to freaking work that night and couldn't get out of it. I did get to see your amazing wife play a solo gig about 10 years ago, or so, and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing you there when she was signing autographs before/after the show. Also, I'm a big fan of Pomplamoose, too! I just want live music to come back so I can see you guys play sometime. Here's to hoping it is sooner than later! Keep on keeping on!
Rozzi is just crazy. How good she sounds in such a big range is just stupid and the amount of control she still has while just jamming is frickin' insane! (Also mono is just a bass god.)
Nobodys gonna talk about the drummer, but: The technique he uses in the beginning is super cool. With a rim click like that you usually have your palm on the drum head but he doesn't touch it at all and thus creates this open, ringy and original sound. Found that super interesting!
God she's so good. 🤯 The video you guys did with her singing Prince's "Kiss" still drops my jaw every time. As I say with most of your guest musicians, how is she not more famous?!!
I'm gonna make a change For once in my life It's gonna feel real good Gonna make a difference Gonna make it right As I, turn up the collar on My favorite winter coat This wind is blowing my mind I see the kids in the streets With not enough to eat Who am I to be blind? Pretending not to see their needs A summer disregard, a broken bottle top And a one man soul They follow each other on the wind ya' know 'Cause they got nowhere to go That's why I want you to know I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change Na-na-na, na-na-na Na-na, na-na I've been a victim of a selfish kind of love It's time that I realize That there are some with no home, not a nickel to loan Could it be really me, pretending that they're not alone? A willow deeply scarred, somebody's broken heart And a washed-out dream They follow the pattern of the wind ya' see 'Cause they got no place to be That's why I'm starting with me I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could have been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself, and then make a change I'm starting with the man in the mirror I'm asking him to change his ways And no message could've been any clearer If you want to make the world a better place Take a look at yourself and then make that Change! First cut to Jack at around 7 seconds in and his right leg is already feeling it. And each time the camera cuts to him there's more of him feeling it. It's only when he's out of his seat that you realise that he's too tall for that wee booth he's in !
I agree. I enjoy her solo and pretty much everything Scary Pockets, but this combo is special. SP's funk harmonizes so well with her insanely energetic voice. Girl's got soul! Really hope to see them work together even more.
A vocalist that looks nothing like she sounds, a bassist that looks like a Rastafarian popsicle stick, & a bunch of other blokes in fish tanks. That was epic.
Rozzi is a vocal powerhouse. I like her singing a lot. And it seems she actually enjoys the stuff she's doing. Thanks for the great video and music Scary Pockets! :)
Super hard competition with the main squeeze version, but you managed to pull off a very unique version with the deep voice and the offset beat. bravo!
none of this is funk. my kid says she's into funk and I'm like, YAS and then it's this stuff and ok it's pop all of it. not even R&B, yall not doing a service

Only just found this one after watching Scary Pockets videos for years. Incredible stuff. Whole band working together perfectly. And Rozzi?! WTF!? What a performance. I'm off to find all her stuff.

That’s right. And let's never forget the kind human in the mirror who first wrote and sang the words. Whatever the world may say, MJ created amazing songs that live forever.
This band plays with lots of great musicians, but I feel like it's true form is only achieved with Tamir Barzilay, he brings it to another level. I've been missing him in some of these videos recently.
Just perfect. That's all. Perfect. Thank you, Rozzi! ( pretty amazing band, too...) I think this song was written for you to sing. Ever get that feeling?
That's probably how he learned. Like many lefties, they would borrow somebody's right handed bass, just flip it around and practice till they became great!!
When I saw my first Scary Pockets video, besides the quality of your work, what really made me fall in love was to see the enthusiasm and love you guys do your work with - all the faces, smiles and exchange of looks.. And here I am, years later still in love for the exact same reason only now with an even better quality! Amazing job guys! You should tour in Australia!
Every now and again you stumble on something you really really like. This was one of those times. I loved how the energy and intensity built in your brilliant interpretation of the song. Thanks a million.
I can't remember when I first heard/saw Rozzi but I think it was with Pentatonics a few years back. She is quite great. I mean, this is a great song and I always loved all the back vocals in it - very church choir-like. But she nails this thing without any of that and keeps giving it right to the end. Fantastic.
