If one can get off the street and into a place, including a tiny house, good for them !! That's quite an achievement today. The powers that be, both Dems and Reps, are making it ever harder all the time.
Esther Madueke Welcome to downward bound. What a way to live when you have well off people who are willing to facilitate your style of life. Totally impossible when everyone wants to live like this. We call this the third world in reality.
good thing he is in Orlando. I imagine having an outdoor kitchen with heavy rains, snow and minus 10-15 degrees. Preferably have to live somewhere where the temperature is not dropping below 0°
Wow I needed to hear this today thank you! My family and I are planning a cross country trip and living in our Rv full time to simplify, I’ve gotten a lot of negative opinions from family and friends about this and I was really questioning our decision this morning but after reading this, there’s no turning back.
@@roxannegordon6162 but the time he spends "hustling" is also time he isn't working a traditional job, so I'm sure it evens out. If anything, he probably still has more free time than most people.
Everyone’s freaking out about quarantine and the fact that the stores don’t have toilet paper or water and homeboy is living his life like nothing happened
@@beckycondreay9212 He will probably still carry on as if nothing has happened, lol. Wait, he may be getting more inquiries about his lifestyle. So, for him, life might be even better now, if this global disruption has generated interest in the many tools he has around his little abode.
But doesn’t he have to have health insurance? I suppose he gets medical assistance since he is considered poor and living in poverty even though he chooses to live that way.
Honestly a really inspiring guy. He has strong beliefs and instead of whining to others about it, he sets an example and promotes his lifestyle to others, well done
He has a glow of contentment and purpose around him. He is so self reliant and simple. This is an example of simple living and high thinking at its best.
People need to stop sharing these on the internet. Politicians are starting to make them illegal. They are making boat life illegal too. They just made is so you need to move your boat every 90 days in Florida. Politicians want you paying rent and property tax. Guys like this probably piss politicians off.
another promotions of bad old dark age Feudal systems! (and he is bamboozle everyone into a simple mindsets of peasant/serves position!) What happened if his landlords change their minds about keeping this man-pet on their real-estate properties?
@@agustintintin2126 dude, the world is full of landowners who dont mind or even notice someone on their property. Loads of people who own acres upon acres of woodland, pastures and all. A feudal system involves enslavement, a surf is a person whose labor comes with ownership of the land they're living on, unpaid, and there's no free will. This guy has realized and lived other ways. He's excersizing a privilege really. Makes no romantic claims about people who are exploited and empoverished. It's all his choice and he as well as the land owner can make new and different ones. Seems you haven't picked up on who this guy is, what makes him tick and what he's all about. Some peopke spend their lives and money on throwing themselves out of airplanes with nylon wings, some climb the nortj side of K 2 after raising a million bucks, some build survival bunkers out the back of yheir property costing mor than a small home or collect military arsenals in their garage and quote scripture every chance they get and you're bothered by this guy minding his own business, leaving the tiniest footprint ever? I'm so grateful I don't have your problems. Life must be pretty dark man. Sounds like you need to get out and do some travelling and see a little more of the world.
Rob's life shown here, is the best, real deal, little house, homesteading life I've seen. I'm really impressed. May he continue onward, and be able to inspire many, for decades to come.
Anyone making fun of him is probably working 70 hrs a week, in debt, struggling to pay their bills, and miserable with their own lives. Peace of mind is priceless!!!!! I aspire to be like this guy!!! Definitely a great role model for the young people going out into the world. He shows us there is a another way to live this life!! Thank you!!!
What is he going to do when he gets old? Maybe a bike with training wheels? No 401k no ss ? I guess you young people will have to take care of him. Get woke go broke!
I'm not making fun of him, I'm just wondering about the house. Who owns the property and pays the property taxes and electric bill? Unless maybe he is renting the property. I guess you could make a bit of money selling honey but I doubt it is enough to rent a backyard.
This is amazing! I commend this gentleman for acknowledging we need very little to live and making that a practice in his actual life. People around the world live like this and live well in to their 100's. Makes you think twice about the things we called a need in life.
What an impressive, interesting man who appears genuinely committed to preserving survival skills that many of us in the modern world have lost. I admire his enthusiasm for exploring such a simple lifestyle and then sharing that knowledge.
@Michael The problem with thinking is this, no one else is going to be exactly the same as you on anything. Anti-war is pro peace. The nit picking by Mother Teresa is why the protests never go anywhere. The person in the video is canceled out by the mere fact that he lives on someone's property who isn't doing any of the things he is.
The less stuff you have, the less time you have to waste to care for them😍🥰 Less is more. Very true, small house gets messy faster. I live in a studio, so it is similiar to this shed. Kudos to the guy.
I live in the country and people are always trying to move in on me. They must think I'm a nice guy, I sort of am but really don't want to live with anyone especially pushy people who think they can homestead in my barn.
To be fair he appears genuinely committed to this lifestyle, extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful whilst enthusiastic about sharing the skills he has. It does seem to be a fair and mutually beneficial exchange for him and the homeowners, almost like the old fashion days of having a caretaker cottage where the groundskeeper lives. I also like how he doesn’t try to glamorise of idealise his situation nor hide the challenges his choices can pose. The most important comment he said was there are pluses and minuses to EVERY choice we make and life is never easy nor carefree and can be unpredictable but we do have a choice about how we prioritise what we invest our energy into.
He is beyond smart. He is very astute. He is living life as it was meant too be lived why we ha strife in the world the need for more and wanting what the next person has do we really need to live like that. I like his perspective. Could I do it probably not. I'm caught up in the world of want.
Already have my land in Hartsel. Be sure to check building requirements. The limit for my county is a 200 sf building with a mandatory foundation. Otherwise it's considered camping which for me would be a 2 week limit with a permit. Even when it's your land, there are still some rules.
Truly inspirational human being. I aspire to be this concious of my impact on the environment and the people around me. We as a society have to start exploring and implementing sustainability at scale, and this man is a prime example of how we can accomplish this. Perfect example of how one man's journey can create a new paradigm.
Yeah i haven't seen the whole video yet but he can only live there because another person bought that property and let him live there. You always have to pay or another person if you want to build something somewhere
@@troygrant5418 Yeah. He's actually got plenty in a tiny amount of space. He has greater independence + more flexible *time* + likely his mind feels chill. You can tell he's pretty happy with this lifestyle.
Salute!Reaching my senior years now...after living in cities around the globe for 3 decades....I am a musician and a farmer and a cook. I am also a Philanthropist and will soon start to live similar like you ,simple living, plant organic and healthier plants ,and share this marvelous idea. This is actually what we need now during the Pandemic and after...and the coming years to come.
Alot of people like him in the Philippines live like this. Made me realize we've been doing tiny house living for the longest of time. He even got the mosquito net thing down. 😂
Lyrrad Senoj I think there is plenty of stress. No living being gets away with that lol. He may be avoiding some financial stress now but what does the future bring?
I'm in aww. Your inspiring. This is keeping it real. I've learned to live on less and find I'm happier but you have really rocked this congrats thank you for helping our planet.
This guy is so inspiring. I'm obsessed with the Tiny House movement. Though I dream of having a luxury tiny house, someday, after watching this man, and seeing how simply he lives, I think I'll aim for a more rustic simple house. Thank you for sharing this inspirational person with us.
For the 28.5 months I lived in my house before I got water/septic, I used a solar camp shower bag, in a plastic/acrylic clawfoot tub. Hauled my water on my way home from the farm, at a local water spout weekly in 20 gallon camp jugs. Grew a small garden. Now I have a drilled well, toilet, and so much more. I'm happy to be back on the grid honestly, but it showed me what I was capable of.
Seems good so far! Was easy to talk to about his My Shed Plans [Go Here=> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. Guided me in the right direction & helped me understand everything & in the end it was what I wanted
I love the aspect of having the outside in, by having the ventilation aspect in the roof. That has to be more healthy. The outdoor cooking space was so cool too - especially the water collection/storage/delivery simplicity. A total exercise on simplicity and high circularity.
The "summer kitchen" is an old concept from the days before a/c. Amazing how reliant we have become on juice-chugging a/c, especially in the American south and southwest.
Obviously, there is no HOA involved with the community where you live, but I'm still amazed that some NIMBY busybody hasn't tried to disrupt what you and the homeowner are trying to achieve. What you're doing is really awesome and incredibly inspirational!
I also live in Orlando. The majority of the area is riddled with HOAs, but we do have pockets without them, and you'll find that the non-HOA places don't step on ANYONE'S toes, because we all escaped from oppressive and obnoxious HOAs (although he moved to NC, so I guess someone may have given him trouble; that, or he got sick of these mosquitoes and the humidity).
7-14-21 Although I'm not prepared to live quite as rustically as Rob, I love his creativity and passion. This is someone living life on his own terms, and he has created the life he wants to live. You give up some things to have other things(compromise in a positive way), and I respect and appreciate his honesty. Very inspiring and informative video.
Its not hard as a human one should have enough adaptive skills to do even better than him.. But after frugal living you realize less is sometimes more hence he realized he only needed a room to live, and he basically has the entire yard, I’d need an A/C in that shed though but overall I’d suggest a $500 efficiency with all utilities if you’re gunna be in someones backyard...
I was a little skeptical about this video at first, but after giving it some time and watching the whole way through, I'm impressed. I applaud his his efforts. I will applaud the efforts of those who will make technology that allows us to live sustainably at scale more, but I admire someone without that drive or skill doing this almost as admirably.
@@heff2959 I have too much debt. If I wait til my house is paid off then when I sell I can pay off all my debts and have a little left to start over debt free like in a van down by the river.
Interesting person. Really love everything that he’s doing. My only worry is that he’s highly vulnerable to the homeowner suddenly telling him to go. Keep up your excellent work.
He explains the arrangement in depth on his RU-vid channel. The short version is the land owner wanted to learn to live more sustainably. So they let Rob live on the land for the time, in exchange he will teach them how to maintain the garden and live a better life and when Rob leaves the owner keeps the garden, tiny house, and outdoor kitchen.
@@thechaotimagnet and you think the owner will live there forever? He could sell the house next month or move to another state. I know he is a nature man but that is no difference to living in the pre-industrial age. If you stuck in that time then there will be no advancement today. People live like that before. Do you think they were happy? Do you think they were not nature awareness? They were all environmentalists by nature but there lives aren't that good either. Not to mention they didn't live too long as well.
I also live in Orlando, close to downtown, and know several people who are now on the verge of homelessness. I’d love to talk to this guy and maybe organize a tiny house community for those who are being priced out of renting (it’s honestly outrageous now)! I’m also big into growing seedlings now, and would love to share!
I like his honesty and the fact that he cares about people and the environment and has come up with these amazing alternatives. I would love to have him demonstrate what he eats. You see a little about it, but I would love to see a video on it.
I have a 10 by 10 up my mountain ( 500 hundred yds. behind my house ) for 20 years now. My son (32 yrs) insulated it and installed a propane wall heater as I live in northeast Pennsylvania. There is lots to forage and hunt. I plan on living there three seasons of the year and traveling for the winter. I ❤ your attitude and what you've done ! God bless and stay safe 💙💙❤💙💙
I was skeptical at first, seeing clearly he was in someone’s yard. I kept thinking “that’s great, but..”. Then he explained. It’s the most basic form of interaction/ exchange. He’s living the life he loves & helping the world along the way. Great video!
This guy seems pretty amazing. He has everything put in an orderly fashion, and literally, uses up all waste for a safe environment. Some people may make fun, but that's his personal hookup and he's happy. Thank goodness the owners let him do this on thier property. But, in Florida, I'd have to have air condition and screens. Lots of critters in Sunny Florida, lol 🌴🌞🌀
I'm proud of his achievement. Many people will resign themselves to being consumers all their lives. He decided to go a different route. I am considering going the tiny house route by converting a shed to a home. He gives me motivation that I can do it. Great job dude!
marisah musa I don’t really but I’m respect what he’s doing and am quite impressed. I’m a bit too used to living in an air conditioned area and with family, etc. But I really like what he’s doing! (Oh yea, I’d probably be bored too lol)
Thanks for interviewing this man. I am subscribing to his channel so that my family and I may be inspired and motivated to do more in a sustainable and conscientious way.
Heat for Winter Use a clay pot with a candle. Flip the clay pot over the candle. And the heat will come out thru the hole on top and bottom ( leave space on the bottom) I use this method in a metal shed. Stray cats stay in it and that's how they stay warm.
ADORABLE & BRILLIANT... NOT A LIFESTYLE FOR MOST, BUT IT IS YOUR LIFE AND I SO APPRECIATE YOUR RESPECT FOR EARTH AND RECYCLING. BEST OF LUCK AND MUCH SUCCESS.
This is my dream! To feel happy , free and with purpose. So far I had got rid of 80% of my things it’s such a hard and slow process since i was so used to keeping things but I have so much respect for this guy seriously
I agree, I missed out on the last years of my grandmas life because I had to work. After her death, I went on a mission to cut my bills down. All my bills including rent are all equal to half my income. I no longer have to work over time or worry about money. I only shop on sales rack or thrift stores, cook every other day, and keep things simple. Iam also able to travel more now.
"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I'm a Van Dweller. I wanted a tiny house before the van, but the challenges of cost and we're you can live stopped that thought. All of this is very fascinating and creative.
This is no longer a tiny house. It's a shed or a cabin. An architect would tell you that a house must have all the amenities inside the "house" (i.e. bathroom and kitchen, etc) unlike a shed or cabin which has entirely different meaning.. this is the problem with people over trending and overusing the Tiny House concept.
I lived in Cambodia for several years, and this structure is similar to how many there live, except the living area would be on stilts and the kitchen down below but open. I'm pretty sure they consider their dwellings houses.
Yngvi Frey rain water and waste disposable im a bit effy on especially as a neighbor, city perspective. He needs to move more to a country side... yet I do love some of his ideas.
I salute this man, the dedication and decision he made to live this way is really amazing. I love the fact that he eats his own harvest, very healthy and sustainable. Kudos to this man ❤❤❤💪
Very resourceful. Literally 😄 I‘m extremely impressed, on how much he was able to do with just a little space and good ideas. And he seems...happy. And relaxed. Such a pleasant difference, to people screaming at each other about their lifestyle choices.
He’s amazing. Imagine a community of people in tony houses like this and living off the land and reconnecting to their inner selves through mother Earth.....not Florida though lol
Fabian Vasquez Jr lol nice one but not the most entertaining part of the 60s was it? 😜. Small communities like this are actually starting to exist, pretty cool for people who are into the lifestyle :)
C L haha! I was a baby don't remember to much from then. I'm from Michigan, I could get into living off the land like this but here in mich, you'd have to be a brave soul in the winter it gets mighty cold and you'd be eaten alive by the bird sized mosquitos and deer flies in the summer. Some people like doing just that, only temporarily though, they call it camping, I call it survival in pure Michigan I mean poor Michigan.
I've never rubbed toilet paper on my face in complete bliss. I might need to try this plant if it's that amazingly soft. I'd just be worried if I got a rash down there and had to explain this to my Doctor. Plus TP is pretty expensive so growing your own is cool.
I think your project is remarkable. I applaud your ingenuity and enthusiasm. As a fellow Floridian, I do wonder how you handle the no-see-ums and mosquitoes when you are not asleep under the mosquito net. Best wishes for a successful conclusion to all your efforts during this worthy project.
What a happy dude...This is the first time I watched a person genuinely happy about using leaves as toilet paper..him rubbing he's face with those leaves. He sounded genuinely happy.
Wow, my mom has a friend living in the backyard something like this, but has a bathroom and shower. He lives for free in exchange for keeping up the yard, and plants veggies during the summer. His family always tries to convince him to move in to a real home and move with family but. He says he likes living outdoors. Likes doing what he wants everyday and he has been there for about 15 yrs. For a long time it seemed weird but now with the tiny home living and videos like this it just seems like he is actually happier and less stressed than the rest of us. It’s gets over 100 in the summers and very cold in the winter nights but he says he is fine all the time.
