RADELAIDE, I don’t think it did, you were probably hearing things from the construction site over your left shoulder behind you, that part of King William Rd is pretty steep for a heavy bus like that
So a kickdown is when you push the accelerator throttle really hard, makes the bus take off faster and usually has long high revs when accelerating. Sometimes it can happen when the bus is parked at an angle while on the hill upon departing a bus stop while accelerating.

the kickdown ‘switch’ is a position on the pedal past full throttle, often actuated by a literal switch in the pedal. For the case of our ZF NLs, kickdown enables first gear lockup rather than just shifting straight to unlocked second without it. Also worth noting the ‘strength’ of the kickdown switches; for some buses it’s feather light (782, 1751, 1769, 1783 so I’ve heard) while for some, it’s very harsh (1772, 1775 to name a couple), likely effects how often kickdown is actually used in them
