Y'all were angry when Creasy died at the end, but that was the most beautiful and merciful way for him to go at that point. The cartel or whoever they were would have made it last for days in the most excruciating way possible, this way he still nobly gave his life for the girl and God spared Creasy/ St. Jude the price he was willing to pay. Beautiful.
Yess! I watched this movie in theaters when I was 13 i was so mad and sad at Creasy dying.... He deserved to escape with Liza and Pita. Unfortunately that is reality. They would of tortured him in the worst kinds of ways.... Probably getting him a doctor to cure his beatings and keep beating him for pleasure... Saw that in a Famous Cartel Series
I prefer the alternate version of this, where it shows them bringing Creasy to The Voice. Then Creasy hits a button and explodes, ass first. He used the same butt bomb he used on the president of La Hermindad.
Some men out here with nothing left but waiting for the chance to do one more RIGHT thing that'll make this life worth it and actually mean something if only to one person that'll remember the sacrifice 💯
Apparently, the scene where Pita says "you're smiling" and Creasy responds "no I'm not" was improvised by the actress to catch him off guard, so a very special moment
its one of Denzel's classics. gritty, compelling, and really nice plot development with a serious twist that will put the first time watcher right on their ass. its a great movie, i can watch it every so often.
Lol I use to watch this movie like every 2 days cause I actually thought he was a real person and I just couldn’t believe how amazing it was.. ( would be lol ) if it was but Denzel is one of the best in my opinion by far
I legitimately think Denzel had more on screen chemistry with Dakota fanning than he's had with any other co star in his career. This is an emotionally HEAVY film and she absolutely killed it
When Christopher Walken's character describes how a person can be an artist in anything... And then says "Creasy's art is death... He's about to paint his masterpiece". Gives me CHILLS everytime I hear it. I tear up whenever I see the reunion between Creasy and Pita, when he assures her that he loves her. It's comforting to know he died of his wounds and did not suffer any torture.
In the extended original ending as Creasy's eyes lose focus the camera pans down to his watch as it counts down. He hid a bomb inside himself to take out the last knowing he would die and this way would not put Pita at risk. It was cut because it was better to leave it ambiguous.
@@Rage867 That suggests that the first time I saw the movie, I saw the extended cut, because every time I have rewatched it, I've been confused by the lack of exploding car at the end. 🤣🤣🤣
A lot of people say Training Day is Denzel Washington's most hardcore role, but for my money it's this. I have a hard time saying this is his best role, due to how varied his acting credentials are. The man literally becomes whomever he's portraying.
I love how this is basically a redemption story. Creasy had done so much evil and violence in his life, that when he asked Christopher Walken if he thought God would ever forgive them, you understood his despair and trauma. Then here comes this pure little girl who loved him so much that he opened up and loved her too. Then she was taken away and his terrible gifts of the past became a tool to take down not only the entire huge kidnapping ring but to save Pita. Because of Creasy, none of the monsters would ever kidnap and kill anyone ever again. He felt good for what he had done, terrible things that saved his beloved Lupita and who knows who else. He was a Lost Cause who found Peace in the end. Absolutely fantastic movie. Good book too but I actually like the film better.
In short, a broken Ronin with no direction, cause, or master was given a second chance at life. Then when Lupita was taken and was thought dead, he knew exactly what any Ronin would do if they lost sole reason of being: revenge. Revenge ,even at the risk of losing their own life , will be their only cause of existing.
It's more or less a Solomon Cane story. The Damned soul believing himself beyond redemption making a selfless sacrifice that does save his soul from the hell he believed was certain.
This is one of my favorite all-time movies. Denzel is perfect in this movie. "Creasy is about to paint his masterpiece" gets me every time. Also, the bullet he handed the father after saying, "A bullet always tells the truth. It didn’t work for me. Maybe it'll work for you" is the one that misfired when Creasy tried to kill himself.
Came here for this comment. I was disappointed that they didn't catch/react to that line. In a film full of great moments, my favorite is that they tied that 9mm dud back in at that scene. Creasy walks away *knowing* that it would work for Ramos.
Denzel's performance was extremely good. The man was basically broken and dead inside, but loving this little child made him feel alive again and you really feel for him. Simply superbly presented. Perhaps one of his best roles.
That scene on the bridge between Pita and Creasey destroys me every time. She redeemed him, but she was very smart. When she looked back at Creasey, she knew he was going to die. This is a favorite. Watching it while you guys tried to figure out what would happen next was more fun than I could say.
She gave him a second chance at life and he used that second life to save hers which ultimately cost his, a even trade in his eyes. With no hesitation he agreed his life for hers during that final phone call to the voice.
Radha Mitchell is a criminally underrated actress. Especially when it comes to playing a mother in crisis. If you guys haven't seen Silent Hill, I recommend it. It's a solid horror movie and a much better adaptation than just about any other video game movie you'll find. She's fantastic in it. Also, if you want another Denzel thriller, check out The Bone Collector.
Silent Hill (the movie) is arguably the best game to movie adaptation ever done yet. and done properly. resident evil is a close one, but i always thought the budget they had for those was too limited to meet the scale of what the games had delivered the first resident evil movie remains my favorite.
Omg i legitimately slow clapped when BJ recognized dakota fanning's name and reputation. She is sooo underrated as amazingly talented as she is and she's worked with so many incredible actors since she was a kid! She's doing equalizer 3 with denzel and i can't wait to see their chemistry now when she's grown up. I love your reactions and you guys are always entertaining to watch!
44:58 i love how they give us Creasy's whole name, date of birth nd death..it almost makes u forget that he's a character that doesnt actually exist! Kudos to Tony Scott for his amazing direction(RIP)
Denzel can play any role. He’s one of the greatest of all time. Every time I watch this I cry my eyes out. Such powerful performances by him AND a young Miss Dakota Fanning! 💔♥️♥️
you guys missed a few key points. In the beginning, Creasy asked the other dude if he thought God would forgive them for what they have done. The answer was a hard no...then they just moved on. So he was a man on fire...destined for Hell. Pita saw the good in him and when the Nun told him he was Pita's father that day, it hit him. She was no longer just a job...he really cared for her and she for him. He started reading the Bible and stopped drinking. Pita brought him back and saved him. And by sacrificing himself, he saved Pita and his soul.
The thing you missed is the bullet that Peta's dad killed himself with, is the same bullet that didn't prime when Creasy tried to kill himself. That's why it was in Peta's notebook. Also the poetic nature of Creasy dying in the car, meant that Daniel "The Voice" never got to get revenge for all the damage that Creasy caused while on his crusade.
My favorite Denzel Washington movie is Fallen. My second favorite is this: Man on Fire. When his wife found out that Dakota Fanning was cast, she went on and on about how fantastic this little child actor was. Denzel knew nothing about her but said he thought, “I better step up my game for this one” because of her reputation. This film is perfectly cast.
So glad you guys saw this. I've been thinking about it the past few weeks. You'll also enjoy "The Equalizer," which is another smart Denzel action film.
Agreed. BTW, there is a "The Equalizer 3" currently being filmed and scheduled to come out in theaters on September 1, 2023. Dakota Fanning, who plays Pita in this film, is also going to be in #3.
Dakota fanning in this movie was excellent. Her panicked face during the shootout and kidnapping is etched into my mind. I KNOW it's not real and I STILL feel it in my soul. One of my all-time favorite movies!
Great video review!! PTSD is a very bad demon in its self. My husband a survivor of the Vietnam war ! He is now 73 and still fights his demons. He told his doctor from the VA who asked him do you dream about what happen in Vietnam and my husband‘s reply was NO I live it every night. ❤🙏
I remember seeing this when it first came out and left quite a lasting impression. Also Tony Scott's editing style was so great. But man that ending....the only movie that can make me cry
This is a remake of a 1987 film, and in my opinion, one of Denzel's best film. I actually didn't know what to think of it the first time I watched it, but it grows on you like a fungus, and seriously gets better with every watching. The acting is just top notch, from Denzel and Dakota, all the way down to the smallest characters. Everyone is so believable.
My favorite actor in one of my favorite movies. "I'm gonna kill em...anybody involved, anyone who profited from it, anybody who opens thier eyes at me". Goosebumps every time 🔥
16:45 ASIA-"OH I FEEL LIKE THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO MAKE ME CRY!" ME- YOU BETTER GET YOUR BOX OF TISSUES READY CUZ I'VE BEEN CRYING!! (ONLY BECAUSE I KNEW WHAT WAS COMING) IN MY OPINION THIS HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF DENZEL'S TOP THREE PERFORMANCES!!
Dakota Fanning even as a child actor was AWESOME. Of course DENZEL and WALKEN dynamics are OUTSTANDING. I definitely LOVE ALL things DENZEL, I would encourage more reactions to his movies. He ALWAYS gives an sincere and heartfelt performance. Asia, you’re reactions make me smile along with BJ’s adlibs…. GREAT 👍🏽 CHOICE. Kipi Kai yay 🎉👏🏽🤍
I'm glad you both enjoyed this one. it was a pleasure to rewatch with you. Man on Fire is a Denzel Washington classic -- one of his best movies ever. I've watched it more times than i can count over the years and never get bored with it.
One of my favorite movies! I haven't seen anyone react to it, so thanks for doing it. I'm glad that it kept you guessing as much as it did me! I'll add my vote for Unstoppable, Book of Eli, and The Equalizer. All great Denzel movies!
I really liked "Book of Eli" I will have to make a point to watch the other two you mention. A slightly different type in the kidnapping genre is the "Transporter" series of films. They are quite entertaining.
This was a fantastic movie and it's special to me. I had just gotten divorced when this came out and I was a single dad with a daughter slightly younger than Dakota Fanning at the time. I saw it in the theaters with some friends from church and held back many tears during the movie. My daughter and I did everything together and she looked to me for security in a crazy world much the same way that Pita looked to Creasy for security in her crazy world. I was an utterly destroyed and broken man, like Creasy was but having a little girl to care for gave me purpose and got me through very dark times. Again, the parallel between Creasy and Pita. I listen to Blue Bayou every few days because of this movie and I've been doing it for nearly 20 years now. Thanks for reviewing this movie. I highly recommend Last of the Mohicans by Michael Mann. It's a truly moving movie and has one of the most epic endings I've ever seen in a movie. Others on the list are The Deer Hunter with Robert DeNiro and Christopher Walken, The Ghost and the Darkness with Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. More recently, Hostiles with Christian Bale, Rosamond Pike and Wes Studi. Rosamond Pike gives one of the best performances I've ever seen in in the history of cinema in one particular scene. If you ever watch it, you'll know the scene when you see it. -Tony.
I remember feeling the same way you did the 1st time I saw this movie. You need to follow it up with Training Day and Déjà Vu. You won't be sorry. Denzel won an Oscar for Training Day.
One of my all time favorites - if not the all time favorite! Thanks for reacting to this. It's an all star cast. Denzel Washington/Christopher Walken/ Radha Mitchell/Marc Anthony/Mickey Rourke/ Giancarlo Giannini as the kidnapping Detective/Rachel Ticotin as the Reporter/Angelina Peláez as Sister Ana/& Dakota Fanning. Angelina Peláez is an unknown in this for me, but she is WONDERFUL! They all are. Dakota Fanning was in the Twilight Movies as an adult, & has been in numerous others as a child. This is a movie about Redemption. Btw - The police in the U.S. also have a brotherhood, or more than one. They probably do in every country. And did you know - the police in the U.S. have there own Bill of Rights, separate from the U.S. Bill of Rights? It means they don't have to go by the U.S. Bill of Rights... There are images online that prove what I'm saying. I suggest Dragonfly with Kevin Costner next! It's a BEAUTIFUL supernatural mystery.
Your mention of Angelina Peláez brought to mind 2001's 'The Mexican' which is imo an underrated romcom adventure farce with a cast that really delivers💥👍
Tony Scott, brother of Ridley Scott, is underrated as a director. He also directs my favorite movie True Romance, which was a Quentin Tarantino script and features an iconic Christopher Walken scene, plus a great cast incl. Brad Pitt and pre-sopranos Gandolfini. An unrecognizable Gary Oldman as a pimp and Val Kilmer as Elvis, truly superb.
My favorite Denzel movie and I've seen ALL his movies. People don't understand why Creasy went through so much for Pita. He was all but dead at the beginning. Alcoholic, suicidal. Nothing mattered to him. Pita brought him back to life and made him care for someone and for himself. He had to get them all for what they did to her. This is a remake. The original is good too. Some similar things but a different ending.
This is what made me become a Denzel Washington fan. I always respected his work from previous movies, but for some reason, this one did it for me. Great movie.
growing up i was diagnosed with CRPS and was hospitalized for 2 months and once I was able to sit up, I had this movie playing on repeat. Denzel in a weird way showed me that pain will never be greater than love, and it helped get me through it
My favorite part is when they’re on the bridge. She says “I love you Creasy. And you love me too don’t you?” He just says, “yes, I do.” Makes me cry everytime. Question: BJ, do you have a problem with your vision? I’ve been binging y’all’s videos lately and I notice how you lean forward and squint a lot. I didn’t see it that much on this one, but I see you do it nearly every video. Just wondering if you noticed that.
Of all the outstanding characters Denzel Washington has played, this one is my favorite. No matter how many times I've seen this movie (many, many..) the scene where Creasy is walking across the bridge and Pita is running towards him....still brings me to tears: and of course, that moment when the mother finally has Pita back, it gives me the chills. Its that moment , a miracle that very rarely happens in the real world. In so many of these cases of kidnapping, it's usually not a happy ending.
This is one of my favorite movies, and there was strong acting from everyone in this movie. I’m sure others have said, but the marks on his hands were from him being tortured in the line of duty. He worked for a 3 letter government agency that starts with a C, but had to do the dark dirty work. He and Christopher Walken had worked together and had done unspeakable things. That’s why they asked each other if they thought God would ever forgive them for the things they had done; and then they thought that He wouldn’t. Creasy’s specialty was torture and death and that’s why Christopher Walken said he was about to paint his masterpiece. Creasy had already been in so many dark places and thought his life was worthless, and that he was unredeemable. There’s definitely an interesting play on the water where he’s bleeding, and washing himself of the blood and being cleansed figuratively for his sins. The attorney and the dad were in on an insurance scam together, and wanted to collect the insurance policy for her death, but they ripped off the guys that were supposed to be in on it. Because of that, they thought that she legitimately died, but Denzel wouldn’t let it go. It was a beautiful movie and Dakota Fanning did an amazing job of acting, especially for as young as she was. Great movie, and great reaction. Thank you!
The scene when he confronted the mother and father about the kidnapping was one of the best acting scenes I've ever seen , the mom was gonna kill Marc Anthony if Denzel didn't lol
Dacota was the best child actor in the world, when this movie came out I was in awe how this child plays! Props to her, I will never forget how Orlando Bloom had to hold her so she can reach the microphone when she won an award,so she can give her speech.
I've always loved this movie. I'm so glad you guys enjoyed it too. Denzel Washington is just a fantastic actor! If you ever want another hidden gem starring him, check out Fallen from the late 90s. Also, I hope you are both having a wonderful holiday season so far!
@@MsPxeDst It’s an October staple for me every year. I watch one of my favorite scary movies every day in October, saving the most adored films for the last.
This was one of my all time favorite movies, and probably one of my favorite Denzel movies. This one is just another example of what a legend Denzel is, he's always good, but this should have been an Oscar.
A genuinely great, heart-wrenching movie. She redeemed him, then at the end he gave his life for her. Strong Jesus vibes, he literally traded himself to set the captive free from bondage.
I love Denzel, but I think this maybe my favorite movie by him. He was definitely on fire. They took the only thing he loved and he gave them what they deserved. Creasy didn't ever think he would live when he went after them, because he thought his only reason for living was gone. God gave him his life when that gun didn't shoot and he used it to save an innocent. "John Q" is amazing also.
I first watched this movie like over 10 years ago. I watched it again recently and ohhhh man it hit me different. I have a young daughter now and I didn't expect to feel so much more invested emotionally.
I love this movie. Denzel was amazing in this movie. Its one of my all time favorites. If you have not seen it yet watch The Equalizer. He is amazing in that one too.
"Man on Fire" was directed by Tony Scott (Ridley Scott's brother). Do yourself a favor and check out another Tony Scott directed film, "True Romance". It was written by Quentin Tarantino. So, it's really a love story, but, since Tarantino wrote it there's a lot of violence. Actors include Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Val Kilmer, James Gandolfini, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, & Sameul L Jackson. A must see film!
One of my favorite movies ever. Denzel should have won the Oscar. One of the greatest actors whoever lived. Ironically I used to have a fascination with OLD B&W gangster movies. James Cagney was my favorite. Then I found out he was Denzel's favorite too. In fact Denzel once said his favorite book on acting, that taught him more than any other book or acting class, was "Cagney on Cagney" written by James Cagney himself. Denzel was fascinated by Cagney and bought that book when he decided to become an actor, and as a fan BOTH I can tell you they were just blessed with the same gift. Creating REALISM was/is natural to them. Orson Welles once said Cagney was the best film actor he had ever seen, because there isn't a FAKE MOMENT in a Cagney performance. There isn't a FAKE MOMENT (where a trained eye can detect he is acting) in a Denzel performance either.
Definitely in my top 5.. Denzel and little(at the time) Dakota Fanning did soo good in this movie..makes me cry everything, which says alot, for me. Love that you guys enjoyed this!!
There is a silver lining to Creasy's death, first off he was able to find redemption and salvation in saving Peeta's life and... Had he not died there in the car peacefully can you imagine how bad and long they would have tortured him for all the trouble he caused? It's sad that he passes at all but I would rather see him go that way on his terms than the things they would have planned for him had he lived.
I love this movie so much. I watch it probably once a year just to experience its greatness. This is my favorite Denzel movie. It's funny, dramatic, the acting is great, you're probably gonna cry a little. He is STONE COLD and direct.
"He shouldn't be doing that!" "He SHOULD be doing that Asia!" 😂😂 And I vote the line from Die Hard should now be changed from "Yippie ki yay" to "Kippie ki yay" from now on LOL
Denzel is one of my favorite actors! You know when people say your first name and they already know who you are, you are the man. Denzel is the man. Or the man on fire, I should say 🙂🙏
for a lot of people, the soft quiet way they show him opening up to her and starting to smile and laugh, will be just glossed over, when in reality when everything in life has crashed and been ripped out of your soul. the pure act of kindness and unconditional love from someone. in this case a beautiful little girl with a pure heart, shows him that there are still good moments in life to experience. i know how he feels, I've been there and in many ways I'm still living there. this is one of the greatest movies ever made.
Hey guys that's actually a remake of the original movie with Scott Glenn in it he was awesome but Denzel took it to another level. I'm still waiting on my chance to enter a drawing to watch a movie with you guys I'm 65 so don't make me wait too much longer LoL hahaha. I'm too old to catch fire but I might be mad enough to smoke a little bit hahaha. Big love to you always and forever thanks guys. 💕
My favorite movie ,especially knowing it's based off a true story, thanks for this and yes to the Unstoppable movie with Denzel it's also based on a true story .
