Oscars are dolled out by the motion picture academy buddy club. Talent has nothing to do with the awards. I would bet the most votes go to a nominee by participants that haven't even seen their work. It's a popularity contest, that's all.
Agree 1000%, if that is even possible. Dakota had to be the best child actor since Jackie Cooper. So believable. And Mr Washington knocks it out of the park in every role he plays... This scene, where some of Creasy's walls are being broken down due to the persistence of a young swimmer/piano talent, makes me cry.
Real talk. I was 16 when this movie came out. I had just started watching movies with Danziel but when I saw this movie I instantly knew that Dakota Fanning, even at her young age, had an unreal acting ability.
It's strange, that after having watched the film a number of times, I found that 1:32, that little pause where he realises he shows his emotions, then he restrains himself, is one of my favourite moments in the film. Denzel and Dakota's performances are so subtle, it's incredible.
It's something how Creasy put up so many walls through out his life and Pita broke those walls down with kindness and love for someone as lost as he was!
When making a movie like this you absolutely have to nail the casting, if the chemistry between these two doesn't work the whole movie false apart. Fortunately in this case Denzel and Dakota were amasing together.
Gotta love how they finally connected as the movie progressed once she accepted him he learned to accept her as well and also learned what it was like to feel loved again cause in the end I think that's what Creasy needed all along
The reason the "Creay's smile" conversation feels so genuine is because it was ad-libbed. Just two actors messing around in a two camera shot. It is very sweet.
danielle meikle pretty much. It’s been a while since I listened to the director’s commentary but I believe the last scripted line was “you’re smiling”. After that, it’s just the two of them doing some improv.
@@movieguy3000 Yep. I actually went back to check the commentary again to be sure; they discuss it in the commentary with the producer, screen writer Brian Helgeland and Dakota Fanning. They tell you the exact second they start ad libbing. And apparently the scene kept getting better each time they reshot it and it ended up putting them behind schedule. Totally worth it though, if you ask me.
acting masterclass at 0:59 by Mr. Washington when he says "What?".....almost comparable to his other genius scene in Philadelphia when Tom Hanks tells him that he has AIDS as they shake hands and he pulls back. Denzel is the benchmark homies!!
I forgot how good this movie was! Got completely sucked in...mixing of tenderness to their father/daughter relationship-juxtaposed to the wrath Cristley brings down! Feels like I'm being batted back and forth, then back again! YOWZAH
Makes me wish i had someone that really cared about me and could make me genuinely smile without it being a forced or fake one. This scene always hits home along with the scene at the school about him being the sheep that got lost
Mike Yacoub : while your eyes are closed wishing , you are not seeing who is around you ! Maybe the wishing is holding you back . Their is another half for everyone everywhere.
He’s got it all under control. Professional, charming, semi detached, still under control, ...”they’re not......the same, you know”. Trap sprung. Checkmate. End of story. He’s toast. Game over. Little angel owns his soul. Jumps up.... must disengage. Smugly turns back to her book. Instinctively as a woman, age is irrelevant, she understands. Mission accomplished. Poor stupid man. Deer in the headlights man. “What just happened?”
It's hard to feel that strong sense of love when you're swimming in liquor to forget things.. then when that person is taken it is unbearable. But God doesn't quit and even gives people that have totally lost their way a chance at life
It's a SMILE..and a natural one...not forced, it seems. Good improv on the scene if BlackHawkdown2983 is correct abt the behind the scenes in the movie. :)
