I love how in most of his movies, he's always ridiculed, ignored, and picked on by his own family. . . and the way he deals with all their crap, with kindness, forgiveness and most of all patience. . . gotta love such a personage. :o)
I agree, but that’s a looong time ago, and the drooling audiences of today aren’t interested in subtle word play or exaggerated portrayals of human folly. What sells are reality shows, animated kids movies, violence, superheroes and the supernatural.
@@milesdyson5211 So how far did you get in high school before you dropped out? Also when’s the last time you read anything more challenging than a cereal box? Just wondering.
@@chasbodaniels1744 I think you need to just pull your head out your ass and do some real research on these people your supporting and away from TV 's CNN. People like YOU are part of the problem
There were times when the character he portrayed drank in moderation and could almost be regarded as a good man and a family man, not perfect, just a guy in a complex world.
With a wife like that I see why some husbands commit suicide. Like some guy I know said 'he didn't know what happiness was till he got married - then it was too late'.
Karl Ellison Twelve cents per gallon hi-test and that wife and those to squatters would’ve last been seen in the rear view mirror. Imagine that joker eating all your ham, eggs, and pancakes and wash it down with, I’m not going to look for a job till this whole things blows over. 😂😂😂
Rick, you are 100% right in that observation....it seems like the field of comedy is dying a horrible death....as it saturates itself in political attacks and satire that aren't even funny. I would love to have heard how the late George Carlin would have treated what has gone down the last 5 years in the USA....the takeover of thought, free speech, and foisting of phony values, perverse ethics, and social outcome oriented behavior on humanity. He used to call out sophistry and silly behavior during his stage act....would it have continued if he were still alive? How would he have called out Silicon Valley, the Jack's, Zuckerberg's, Sergei, and similar ilk who are the ultimate arbiters of "fairness"? Let me see a comedian who develops an act with the centerpiece of his/her subject-matter "social" media, journalism, fact-checking, news, Internet SP "take down" self-determination. In any event, Rick, bless you.
It's funny, but it's also a horribly well observed textbook study of narcissistic gaslighting abuse and scapegoating within many families. Most comedy is just tragedy seen at armslength.
"And a man, a man provides. And he does it even when he's not appreciated, or respected, or even loved. He simply bears up and he does it. Because he's a man." - Gus Fring (a lesson he learned watching W. C. Fields)
As a kid I began watching his movies on TV with expectations of his theatrical "Great McGonigle" persona, and was disappointed whenever he instead appeared in these meek husband roles. But I learned to appreciate that these movies contain some of his most ingenious work: Fields' view of marriage and family. It explains a lot of how he lived his life.
One knows the writing and casting is good when characters are able to bring out the intense emotion in me that WC's in-laws do. They make me feel like ripping into that breakfast with a frenzied festival of bitch slapping until mom and son crawl out on their hands and knees crapping their pants. Now that's writing preformed by professionals. Thanks again for keeping me entertained. You've become my covert babysitter. 😎
Not related. On my cell phone it listed "mosquito acrivity". I having a sense of humor thought of this idea. It's going to be in the hundreds and the mosquitos just finished having a meeting and the general and thought it would be too hot to bite anyone unless it's indoors.
I wish my great grandad was around after I had time to see many movies and show clips from this period and I could ask him if people really talked in that manner back then IRL or was it a major exaggeration for film for some reason?
Poor WC gets in trouble for trying to do the right thing LOL OMG and he just wanted to enjoy the wrestling match after 25 years of not one day off!! I actually feel for him in this role LOL if Laughter is the best medicine, this makes WC the most valued DR to ever have lived LOL, such a blessing to those of us that love to share his kooky world, thanks WC, I'm sure you're in heaven cracking up all the angels!!
