We have a museum, but you can’t see it. You can’t have a piece of the relic, because it would be redundant. Pretty much sums up our government.

If the items in the "museum" aren't for public viewing, then you don't have a "museum"...you have a warehouse!

Yes museums are also warehouses. They don’t have the space for viewing rooms for all the artifacts they have. Whether it’s the National Museum in Washington (they display something like less than 5% of inventory) or NY Museum of Art (just name any museum in the world), they only have room to display a fraction of their inventory. A museum can have 5 Monet but can only display 2. If you want more displays, become a multimillionaire and donate funds to build a new wing or building. 🤗✌️

Yep, I'd agree with that assessment. They want to hide the fact that the Spanish were there first and the pottery of Spanish decent from that time period probably means there's still treasure in the area.

It's public land, not federal government property, that's the problem, the government forgot who really owns the parks, the people who pay taxes that support the government, remember the government doesn't have a job, they take from people who do have jobs.

This will break someone’s brain: I surveyed on the rebuilding of Hwy 395 in CA in the 1990s (that’s enough info on where and when). The plans had little dashed outlines and we asked about them. We were told they were archaeological sites and stay away from them. So we went to look to see what was there. It took a few minutes, but I saw the artifacts they were protecting. It was obsidian flakes from when the indians made tools. Once my eye was trained, I saw them everywhere not just in the areas designated! Cool thing, there is no source of obsidian within 500 miles of the area. Naturally I collected a few.

I found something of great interest for anthropologists and archeologists and then threw it back in the ocean and said let them find it on their own. But the arrowheads I found near that Yellow Rock place, I kept. Then I lost it in a poker game, but won it back right away when I showed him my six shooter.
@Fvpigpen26

So, to be clear, that doesn't include diamonds, precious stones, gold, or platinum, right? Except in cases where it's attached to an "artifact."

As a kid in the 60’s, I found a number of artifacts at Fort Pickens. Mainly Civil war era items. Back then it was a state park with very few restrictions. Best I recall I didn’t keep anything.

I think many people are misunderstanding what he means when he says they have many artifacts not available for public viewing. Almost every museum is like this, it is because they often do not have enough space to properly display their full collections. For example, most museums only display about half their total collection, usually just the most impressive pieces. The rest remain in storage for researchers and academics to use for study and reference. Many museums, including many of the most prominent in the world, have vast collections that are not regularly available for public viewing.

I found a few dozen pieces of ww2 era brass on north talbot island Florida. I gave them to the appropriate people, the Fernandina Beach history museum, who just happened to know they were putting together a ww2 airplane display at the airport and had the ammo boxes and guns used on the old planes, but no old brass...and i gave them enough old 50 cal brass from that era they could make a few mock clips to run out of the airplanes guns. Finders keepers...you decide who you sell or give your possessions away to, if it's public land and isn't obviously anybody else's.

Hell no. The park rangers have after hours get togethers and go back and get all the stuff that’s significant to sell. Same thing goes on on the New England beaches. Some are national parks and if you read the rules at the entrance nothing is allowed to be taken from the park technically. That would include seashells anything that is on the beach. The big reason is they found the pirate ship wydah like 200 feet offshore and gold coins have been washing up for 300 years. No metal detectors are allowed either. Ridiculous.
