Thank you for handling this so well! He was one of my best friends and I talked to just hours before he jumped. We are all heartbroken. He was a great man with lots of dreams and a taste for life.💔💔💔
Sad to hear about someone struggling that bad that they felt the need to do that. Please check on your friends and family, especially the happy out going ones from time to time, It can save a life. That also must have been scary for the passengers having to report to their muster while at sea.
This is truly a tragic event to occur on such a beautiful ship. My heart goes out to this gentlemans family. I also think that it's great that you shared suicide hotline information, it's a great resource for those who are hurting. Thank you
Thankfully most people don’t understand the extreme feeling of despair someone has in order to do this and irrational thought never makes sense to a rational mind. Great job on telling a sad story.
I imagine some that were trying to find a way out of their lives, for whatever reason, see all the coverage And the *success* via jumping and it could factor into killing themselves in this way. Maybe because they're confident it will *work*... Idk. I myself love life with it's quirks and ups and downs of all types and am very grateful, especially after a almost 7yr battle with cancer, to be alive... Others, not so much apparently. I do feel bad for any loved ones left behind though. They have to live the rest of their lives with something that they most likely had nothing to do with.
This is so sad and my heart goes out to the family. I know from experience how it feels for that to happen and the worse thing is that the person suffering never tells their loved ones how they are feeling it comes as a great shock and lots of questions with no answers.
The Oasis of the Seas cruise ship of Royal Caribbean has had bad luck with 2 deaths, first the accidental death of that poor toddler that fell to her death last year. Now almost a year later more or less another death expect the victim in this case whack himself by jumping to his own death. That's really messed considering I went on a cruise years ago on board that ship.
R u people serious? A 100% tasteful segment - u people need to remove yourself from this site immediately! Tony is nothing but polite & considerate of all - u people however r assholes
This sort of thing happened once during a cruise my wife and I were taking. Man purposely jumped over his balcony. Sadly, he was never recovered after a search but the cruiseship and the Coast Guard.
How sad and heartbreaking for his family, friends, and all the people on the cruise. Anyone completing taking your own life please seek help reach out.
We never know what is happening in the mind of even our closest friends and family. Often the help that is available is too expensive. The family are often kept in the dark because doctors and case workers are protecting the confidentiality of their clients. The hospitals that were caring for people with severe psychiatric disorders have been closed and the patients discharged into a world that holds great fear for them. There is no help for the families of these people until the beloved family member or friend has ended their life. I know this and much more because I am a member of such a family and 20 years on it is still a burden the entire family carries.
What an unfortunate occurrence. Thank you for putting the hotline number there, Tony, but maybe next time wait a little longer to start the cheery music. Sends mixed signals.
This is a second tragedy on an Atlantis chartered cruise, a company known for their LGBTQ+ cruises. The first one was a death due to a drug overdose not too long ago. This is not going to help their reputation at all, as much as it wasn't their fault that he decided to jump. I hate that it happend. 😢
I am sorry, have any of you ever dealt with suicidal depression? It is not selfish, it is sad. Walk a mile in their shoes and then make those comments.
So so sad. I could live on a cruiseship but I don't want to die on one. But my wife and I have it set up that when we do die our ashes will be put in the air horn of the cruise ship and at the appropriate moment the horn will sound blowing our ashes over the sea.
My Mother in Law took her own life in 1979, (Pills). Woke me up, both Me & my wife came to the Lord right after that year. Some good came out of a sad death.
When I was a nurse near the Grand Canyon, some people planned their end of life there. Please do notice when, if the opportunity presents, uncomfortable or not, to ask the question if they want to hurt themselves or others. Most don't feel comfortable with that but it may make a difference.
This is a sad story however, in the interest of correctness, I do want to point out that the date this happened was on Wednesday January 22nd, 2020. (Source: www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/man-jumps-his-death-royal-caribbean-cruise-ship-docked-puerto-n1121276). My ears perked up when I heard this story since I was at the Port of San Juan the day before on the 21st on the NCL Encore. The Royal Caribbean "Adventure of the Seas" was docked next to us.
High frequency jumping overboard. I suppose cruise line will react changing balcony configuration . It s now too easy climbing and jumping from balcony room
Thanx Tony I wonder if they have the suicide hot line numbers posted around cruise ships like they do on bridges. Most likely not just because your supposed to be on vacation and it could bring some people down, but I think it is a good idea nothing like a suicide from your cruise ship to put a damper on your vacation 🙁
this would be a good idea. Or maybe suicide hotline phones that connect to a counselor on board? (since most people don't have roaming turned on and wouldn't be able to call from the ship)
If someone wants to jump off they're going to regardless of the size of the ship. We can lookout be there for anyone who falls on hard times or if we see anyone acting out of the ordinary on the ship.
People who do away with themselves do realize how much pain you put your family through. The family goes through grief snd depression too. If you feel like suicide, get help.
Me also. It was an employee of Atlantis Events. They billed it as The World's Largest Gay Cruise. Idk WHY they're seemingly wanting any publicity as he killed himself on one of their cruises. It's just all very sad...
