If we always use the devil as an excuse when bad things happen, we won't ever solve our problems. That was a dude that for some reason had grievances towards the church or pastor and instead of talking it out with him decided to pull a gun. The devil punishes and tempts but it is still the choice of a human to literally pull the trigger.

Actually happens quite a bit. The most miracle worthy in my opinion is a graphic scene where a man was saving a woman from a sexual assault and then the aggressor had him at gun point and the gun jammed multiple times and cleared and still wouldn't fire. The man survived and so did the woman.
