Just to be clear, in that situation, the journalist is to be charged with : - unvoluntary manslaughter - assisting suicide - criminal negligence - trespass (if the doctors insisted that she left, she could have been removed from the hospital grounds without explanation) - reckless endangerment
@@domdom3938 Normal behavior rarely gets anyone's attention. Do you honestly think he would have gotten any results if he just sat back and behaved normally like a good little citizen?
@@Rosawyn Do you see any of them getting results for behaving abnormally? Do you see the people sitting in the street blocking traffic getting any results that they actually want?
A guy set himself on fire as a civil rights protest in my country. Luckily they were able to douse him in water and put the fire out. He didn’t die, but he got third degree burns on his head and hands. He spent couple of months in the hospital, disfigured himself, won’t be able to use his eyes, mouth or hands properly again, and the problem he sacrificed himself for still exists today. Nothing changed…
The reporter should SO face legal consequences for man5|aughter. She went against medical orders AND court order, intervened where she was aware patient was high risk for himself, made a very preventable tragic end possible where he easily could have had full recovery. All for a story. So many layers of repercussions there she should go through, it's crazy.
I have schizoaffective disorder. Can't exactly say that I'm living a full life, I'm currently in a crisis, new pills trial. But if it weren't for my parents, I wouldn't be where I am now.
Good on you. Taking responsibility for your mental health is the bravest thing you can do. I used to have a friend with bipolar… he had a mental health crisis and checked himself into the mental health hospital to deal with it… I could not have been more impressed with the bravery that took. Good luck to you with the drug trial. I hope it finds success. 👍
People of her generation have a very different and very flawed understanding of mental health; the important thing is ultimately she listened to Dr Charles, which not everyone would do in her place.
As a psychologist that have worked multiple years in a max security ward - it's generally because they won't admit that there are psychiatric diseases in their family and they are afraid their own behaviour was part of the problem.
Some of it is due to the negative perception towards mental Illness. Then there are numerous studies that suggest having a psychiatric treatment in medical history leads to more rejection from employers and hindrance furthering in career.
My opinions on the story with Louis (The man who set himself on fire): 1. Even if at the end the mayor put the transfer on hold, it doesn't mean it's over. They'll probably wait until the storm of the story will die down and they'll continue the transfer quietly. 2. I have to agree with his psychiatrist on everything she did. Like she said, for all she knew, he was trying to do what he asked her to help him not do, even subconsciously. Maybe that's why when it didn't go his way, he set himself on fire to ensure he's successful. 3. That reporter was downright evil and the psychiatrist was absolutely right about her. Even if she cried after what happened. The psychiatrist established that Louis is a danger to himself and yet the reporter thought it'd be a good idea to free his cuffs "because he was in so much pain." Where was that care for his pain when he was starving himself and she kept on reminding him of his cause which made him refuse to get treatments??
It would be really helpful if people stop seeing a psychiatric ward as places for crazy people just because a psychiatrist says I’m going to admit you to the psych ward does not mean they think you’re crazy. I myself was admitted to the psych ward with my depression was so bad I had severe, suicidal thoughts. It was for my safety that they admitted me it was so that I would have trained professionals around to help me and get over not necessarily get over but more process my feelings and emotions and help me. I’ve also had a couple friends who have stayed in the psych ward just to help with their medication or sometimes if you’re on medication for some thing to do with mental health they want you in there while they’re adjusting your medication not all mental health issues mean you’re crazy there’s so many different mental health issues and every one of them is different has a different treatment plan but the important thing to know is if someone says I’m gonna admit so-and-so to a psych ward it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re crazy. It just means they need professional help and a psychiatric ward. I like to think of it as a safe place where you can get that help you’re safe there there’s no danger they don’t let you have knives or objects that could hurt yourself. Also, I remember the psych ward that I was in. We had a puzzle room and colouring books and things that we could do to call ourselves. There was even a quiet room where you could go and just chill Read a book do a puzzle and I talked to quite a few people up there and there was only one guy that I would label as crazy but that’s just because he had some severe mental health issues but not every mental health issue labels he was crazy people really need to stop sneaking that psychiatric help means you’re crazy cause it can actually be very helpful
I know it does. I’ve been there. And yes people need to stop viewing mental health in such a negative light… it’s just that people aren’t going to change just cause you say it’s not bad. Sadly it’ll take a lot of time and patience. Likely it’ll only happen by teaching every generation, allowing each one to understand more and more.
I really like that Dr Charles actor. They choose a good pick there. Also that one African with glasses. She is also on Law&Order series. Really good actor.
@@snowyowl2784 She had no power to stop him, and she tried to, he would have booted her and found someone worse. I think his therapist is at fault: she would rather take away his agency than talk to him for a bit longer

She broke the camera line and directly interfered with the events she was reporting on, she lost all objectivity when she became his PA, let alone when she loosened the restraints. All credibility as a journalist evaporated like so much ethanol.
