Imagine writing a song about evolution. How we came to be here. Tuomas is a wonderful composer and lyric writer. He has been doing this for over 20 yrs. He has started a new album. He said it should be out in the spring of 2020. Then a world tour. That is a long time to wait. Thank you for sharing this.................. :-)

15:25-15:55 They go through a variety of musical styles(evolution of music in music about evolution) from Bach to industrial to Metallica to even a few beats of EDM(theres some other effects in there i can't quite place), without changing tempo, or most of the composition really. And that's why i fucking love this band.

Thanks for mentioning the EDM part. I've never specifically identified it representing a genre of music. I always thought that it was just part of the transition.

There's a little tinkering of a banjo in there too for folk music. Bear with me for the link here, but if you're interested in how genius Tuomas actually is in his composing, check this out: jyx.jyu.fi/bitstream/handle/123456789/41589/Charris%20Efthimiou%20-%20Aspects%20Of%20Emotion%20And%20Construction%20In%20The%20Music%20Of%20Nightwish.pdf;sequence=1 It's an essay on how he uses colours and emotions in his music and some really clever stuff about how he can evolve an arrangement multiple times through one song in such subtle ways that you might not notice if you aren't paying close attention. Really really cool stuff, he's incredible.

Isn't this also a modern nod to Joseph Haydn's masterpiece 'The Creation'? It's pretty epic in its own right, even though I can't condone the religious theme at all. In his defense though, writing religious works *did* get you the big paychecks in the 18th century.

Woooo !! I didnt think anyone would do a reaction video to this one, as its so long but as you found out, its so worthwhile the listen. A total masterpiece There is a video on RU-vid of this song & someone has put film in of the evolution of the earth, to this song. Its well worth watching, as it explains so much of the song. The man talking though the song is evolutionist Richard Dawkins Richard was at Wembley with Nightwish & it was wonderful to see him :) The quiet piece at the beginning of the song was the universe in slumber & then comes the big bang :) The high vocals mid way, was the dinosaurs being wiped out. The Cretaceous extintion. The words near to the end of the song, was the extinction of us !! 'WE WERE HERE' !! And then life starts again, without HUMANS.

Thanks for this! I've watched so many reaction videos of this song recently and yours was one of those I enjoyed the most! How did you like the lyrics? Isn't it an amazing topic for a song? Speaking of lyrics, the only thing I'm a bit disappointed of, is that you stopped the video before the actual end of the song. That's a little pet peeve of mine - like, I get someone who doesn't know the song won't expect anything else to happen at this point but there is another short spoken part shortly after you stopped. It says: "There is grandeur in this view of life With its several powers Having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one And that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on According to the fixed law of gravity From so simple a beginning Endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been And are being evolved" Which imo is just as beautiful as all the other spoken parts. (By the way, these are spoken by Richard Dawkins, a well-known evolutionary biologist and ethologist!) Glad you liked this one and can't wait for more Nightwish reactions!!!

Nightwish seems to be in a league of their own (in a very good way), along with those of us who are fans of their music. Every album they release is a breath of fresh air. For the past 20 years I've developed such a distaste for so much of the mainstream music scene. It's all overly repetitive, bland, and seems to use the same beats and chord progressions that my ears are just bored of it. Even as a metal band, Nightwish performs with so much class and professionalism it really makes me wonder why they don't get the recognition they deserve. I've listened to a lot of symphonic metal bands over the years, but Nightwish by far tops them all.

This is not really a song, it is a masterpiece. Tuomas (keys) is the best composer of this era, people call him Metal Mozart. Honestly, these big pieces, like poet and the pendulum need some preparation...because the lyrics are extremely deep and about stuff they dealed with in life (suicidal thoughts/depression Tuomas) This is about the birth of the universe...the fireworks during the piano are presenting the BIG BANG, the easter eggs , you couaght two very well (Bach and Metallica) are the evolution of music. Tuomas is a finnish guy, who wanted to become a biologist. He has a house in the Finnish woods at a beautiful lake and is very inspired by dr. Dawkins (who you heard speaking during the song, you skipped the end, there was a beautiful message from dawkins). In Wembly Dawkins is present himself. Also Tuomas writes most music for the band (the basics) Marko also wrote some great songs and as a band they polish it to what they want it to be. Tuomas works together with the London Symphonic Orchestra and wrote music for the whole orchestra and the choir. You can hear that in many songs. He is a musical genius. They make classical music, folk, folkmetal, symphonic metal. trashmetal. doommetal....they mix everything and that is what I love about nightwish. They are not some kind of gothic band...they are so much more.

"That came out of nowhere " Haha, Tuomas is such a genius! To coax a reaction that underlines the meaning of the intro; bloody amazing. This is a masterpiece!

Really hope you head back for more Nightwish. Would love to see you react to Storytime, Live @ Wacken 2013. You loved Romanticide, so I'm almost positive you'll love Storytime.

I love your obvious delight when listening to this. And your face was a picture when you discovered the Metallica riff! Very entertaining.

Im kinda understand a little bit of the story telling behind the presentation & the riffing and the beat after watching this many times Fire works = big bang theory Nomad voice = earliest human civilization Metallica riff = the birth of modern metal Techno beat = mainstream music & many more to interpret.. A masterpiece, genius song composition & presentation

love that performance of "Last Ride Of The Day" from Tampere! for a while, whenever i was on my way home from work, i would put it on. Floor's "Tampere! Would you like to make a little ride with us?!" would almost bring tears to my eyes. so happy i found this band!

Richard Dawkins says a little bit more at the very end "There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers Having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one And that whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity From so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been And are being, evolved."

The Enter the Sandman riff I believe was a NW nod to Metallica as the “evolution “ of metal..

The keyboardist Tuomas is one of the greatest composers of this time. He wrote every nightwish song including this masterpiece. There are not many if any band at all that can compete with nightwish.
