What I have to do is many, many more of the pursed lip breaths and I make sure that the exhale is 3 times longer than the inhale. I also find that holding my breath right after the inhale for 1 or 2 seconds is what initiates the sense of control. It's not mandatory to hold the breath every single time, but it's an option for me. Ensuring that I am focusing on just ONE thing during this episode of trying to calm down and breathe more normally is also very important. If there is an object right in front of me, I will stare at just that object for most or all of the episode. During panic or anxiety-ridden breathing, our mind swirls like a cyclone and will pick up every visual we see or any thought in our head and take that and use it to amplify the suffering we are going through, increasing the anxiety level, and worsening the experience of shortness of breath. By mastering what the mind is allowed to process with ONE object to focus on, we are depriving the brain of that opportunity to seize every little thought that floats by and use it to increase our level of suffering. This activity of withstanding panic and returning to more normal breathing, by focussing on just ONE thing and using pursed-lip breathing, goes on for several minutes for me, especially when I have just woken up and my lungs are clogged with mucus. ( I have asthma and COPD. ) That is when it can easily take longer than 5 minutes.
Thank you with all my heart for sharing this....you have verified in concrete language what I could not grasp with language, making my suffering linger in a feeling of guilt, when I have to yell out to be heard for the sounds and images that are pounding the space I'm in to be stopped....or my panic will choke me and I become as the dying. Thank you. Blessings upon you and those you love...may you never have to walk within the event horizon of terror again!
this helped and also made me realize that what I thought was pain originating in my chest was actually coming through from my back. I was able to move around and work on that area, too and am feeling much less anxious!
So glad for this also....it is the first set of emergency breathing exercises that is easy for me and the results are immediate, I'm so thankful this works so quickly, so I can accomplish the few chores I'm able to! Giant Smile, and blessings thank you!
Did it go away or are your symptoms still there. I see you posted this a year ago and hooefully healed but lmk how long it took to recouoorate if you can remember .thank you
That is such great advice to practice this so it comes naturally when it's needed. I find it best to immediately stop whatever I am doing and either sit leaning forward or lean forwards against a wall or simply bend forward slightly and put my hands on my thighs. I put my head down and take slow breaths. It works for me but everyone is different.
This set of recovery breathing is the one that brings me back from the event horizon of full blown panic when I can't breath in the oxygen, even though I'm on 24/7 supplemental oxygen. I've been using her other videos for several years, this one has results as if it were designed just for me! My gratitude for this Blessed Healer is immense, I thank her with my very life.....may all have the ease of being as I do every time I use these specially combined techniques.
for people experiencing shortness of breath, start doing push-ups slowly and gradually increase your upper body muscle groups, followed by some breathing exercises in slow manner, such as anulom violm method.
Breathing in through the nose is a remedy for asthma . Crossing fingers improves respiration as a mudra. Interlacing fingers as when praying also helps as a mudra Asthma-paradox means medication causes asthma.
Best for u at home is to keep small handy cans of oxygen two or more(from chemist shop) . When ufeel short of oxygen just pump oxygen nd in one minute u wil be normal. Later if needed u can reach out to hospital in good shape.
always think about breathing and when I'm alone or going to sleep then all my attention and Focus on my breathing and makes me uncomfortable although I checked my respiratory system is good. no , physical problem is there. But, only thing is I put my attention to my breathing and it's makes me uncomfortable and I try to divert my mind but it goes again and again. Its been month ? Please say solution
I agree. I thought I was the only one with this issue. Thinking about breathing makes it feel like a constant chore, that I need to keep doing, or I will die. I want it to go back to automatic, without thought
What if I am experiancing Dizziness after this excersise ? I have had shortness of breath for couple of monthes, doctors say it is an anxiety....What would you suggest ? What kind of breathing technics ? Please help me to get my breath back and relax !!!
@@georgenewhart1288 I can’t breath but the doctors say Everything cool but I can’t breath been a few days everyone says it’s anxiety and I’m just like no it’s not
If you have asthma and have shortness of breath, you should take your rescue inhaler. For any other form of shortness of breath caused by a disease (COPD; emphysema), there are other meds. If you are going into anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction) trying this instead of calling 911 could kill you rapidly. Deep breathing won't work unless you are hyperventilating. Breathing into a paper bag would be easier, though.
@OmelaW I would strongly recommend you ask your doctor to refer you to someone who can help you manage your anxiety. Learning relaxation techniques, progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery can all help and can be incorporated into your daily activities. Anxiety and panic attacks can lead to shortness of breath and you should focus on gaining control of the anxiety. Good luck
I'm not so sure that would work for me. The 10 breast in acute shortness 10 breaths do my mouth I don't think I can last that long. And they have a panic attack do they have to breathe through my nose I don't get enough oxygen. I'm going to try it but when I'm really SOB itmay not work
All too often people who are short of breath are told to relax and slow down breathing. This is a just what they should NOT be doing, since they need to get rid of CO2 by deep rapid breathing. Instead, I'd rather just give suggestions that tell the person that they will be feeling relaxed and less panicked after a few more deep breaths pass. I repeat this to them, over and over. This seems to be helpful to them. I like to coach the person to follow the wisdom of the body and breathe exactly as their body is instructing them, while I supply suggestions that give them permission to feel relaxation.
This is incorrect. Breathing slowly, to the point of air hunger, causes oxygen release, and restored systematic breathing . Take many deep, fast breaths, and you will feel dizzy, as you are depleting oxygen absorbtion .
how many days should it take to completely recover ? whenever i lay down my heart feels so overwhelmed and bold. cant breathe properly. so i flip over to sleep
The world is not in the world world and the world when smoking exhale slowly! That’s when you’re actually doing what’s everything in that video without your attention!
@@jameswilliam9160 @Sroy Detroyer , I've actually been able to manage mine. I've noticed I get those episode when I'm anxious or stressed. But I'm alive 😄
