10:54 - someone explain why this cop became so aggressive?! I watched the hands of the arrestee closely, and I can't find what he did to deserve to be pushed and handled aggressively by the cop?!
@_Arko44
@_Arko44 8 месяцев назад
I can offer one possibility. I have been working in corrections for two years. This is in no way an attempt to condone or condemn the actions of the officer, just an attempt to offer a possible explanation. In training, if we believe that an inmate makes an aggressive move, the first thing they teach us to do is to create distance, either by moving ourselves back or by pushing the inmate back. The inmate pushed his hands too close to the officer's head when he stuck his arms out of the cell. When the officer pushed the inmate's arms back, it looked like the inmate pulled away aggressively. In the corrections environment, we may deem that to be an act of aggression, which is possibly what this officer thought. The officer then created distance by pushing the inmate. When the inmate stumbled and fell, the officer possibly recognized the opportunity to mitigate the perceived threat by restraining the now-dazed inmate. When we move to restrain, we move quickly and with purpose, something that I saw the officer do. Again, this is just one possibility. I can understand how this looks too aggressive to the layman, but it appeared to be correct according to the training that I have received. Hope this helps!

They need to retrain the guys that put the guy in the restraint chair. There is a purpose for the rest of the straps. They only used the wrist straps. There are 2 shoulder straps a lap belt and 2 ankle straps. If you use your equipment correctly, the guy wouldn’t get out. After the first time they put him in it, he was putting his feet in the seat to push out.

The guy isn't violent. He seems to be a regular. They probably trust him enough to use minimal restraint to make it a less traumatic experience for him. In the end, it looks like they gave him 10mg of valium to help him chill out. I have Borderline Personality Disorder along with other things. The less force that police use with me, the better the outcome for both themselves and me. If they approach me in a friendly manner when I am in crisis, I am zero threat and happily comply. If they come at me aggressively, I tend to lash out. My brain doesn't work it's just flight or fight at that point, and all I feel like I am in a dream. Any well trained cop can tell within seconds I am in a mental health crisis and it's not drugs or alcohol and will pause to call paramedics as they are better at calming me down.

I feel sorry for the fella going through alcohol withdrawal. I can't imagine how physically awful he feels. Can't they use handcuffs instead of those straps?
@terriatca1

The straps are physically safer, the bruises and cuts that can be made by the cuffs are awful. I have police bringing patients to the hospital unit I work at, we immediately switch over to straps with padding underneath.

Watched my dad go through this. Like the officer said, they have no idea what’s going on and they’re physically soooo strong. They can lash and bruise themselves with cuffs very easy. It’s still sad to see. Something about him made me feel as though he’s probably a decent man, just suffering from a disease. :/

First, follow all commands. Second, have grace and humility. When you get out of jail have faith in the Lord.

How can they detain people in a drunk tank when they don’t have any charges? Isn’t that unlawful detainment??

Marchment act ....involuntary commitment due to threat to self or others or public due to state of mind. In this case alcohol versus psychiatric illness.

Tieing someone to a restraining chair is no way to treat someone going through alcohol withdrawals

OK, FAIR ENOUGH. SO YOU CAN OPEN YOUR OWN HOME TO ALL OF THEM AND TREAT THEM HOW YOU PERCEIVE THEY SHOULD BE DEALT WITH. WHEN THEY TRASH YOUR HOME, STEAL YOUR BELONGINGS, ARE PUKING ON YOUR CARPETS, THEEN, MAYBE THEN, YOU'LL UNDERSTAND THE ACTUAL REASON THIS IS DONE. THE POLICE ARE NOT REALLY EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH THE COMPLETE RANGE OF ILLNESS AND DISORDERS, BUT THERE ARE NO OTHER AGENCIES ABLE TO DO SO, THEREFORE EVERYTHING FALLS TO THE POLICE AND THEY HAVE COMPETING PRIORITIES. TRY VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND INSTEAD OF BEING STUPID YOUR WHOLE LIFE.
