Host Kim Toscano joins Landscape Architect Charissa Aynes of Aynes Enterprises at one of the homes she designed. Many homeowners face problem areas in the landscape.
A well-thought-out design can often provide a creative and attractive solution to problem areas. Charissa shares one such problem area with us, where a torrent of water would wash through the landscape after heavy rains.

No explanation where the water was carried to...? No explanation about what was under the rocks...? Great looking project but more questions than answers.

@@slowermindskeepright1788 He actually posed a rational question. I have a property in a holler, and the water coming down the mountain floods my backyard. We also redirected the water and added rocks, but without some sort of barrier and channel for the water to redirect, this would be an ineffective idea (long term).

How do you determine the size of rocks within the dry river stream? I have two areas, The first has a downhill slope in a mostly shaded area. No grass will grow, so we were thinking of a dry river stream. This area has two downspouts from our gutter system. Our second area has so many tree roots & shade no grass grows there either. Hard to believe weeds have no problem growing? This entire area will feed downhill to an existing dry river stream. If we put this whole system in, one side would be up against an existing planting bed and the other side is bordered by the lawn. We don't know if small, medium, or larger rocks as the base would be best. How to determine before putting in specimen rocks. Thanks

May I ask what the project cost?

+Lois Gilmore We, at Oklahoma Gardening do not know the cost of the project but you could try contacting the Aynes Enterprises and they could give you an estimate. Thanks for watching!

I would’ve built a dam on one side and made a little catfish pond! Or just plant bananas and cattails and bamboo.

Size of the property is not applicable for a dam.

So was the rock just put down or was a drain system under the rock set up?
@OklahomaGardening
@OklahomaGardening 7 лет назад
+Brittany Luder thanks for watching! Charissa just used the natural slope of the land to determine the rock placement.

@@OklahomaGardening do you know if she used a plastic barrier or just a weed fabric under the rocks?
@WulfricTheBlack

Is there plastic sheeting under this?
@thisistheendpt2
@thisistheendpt2 Год назад
There would need to be or the diversion of water would not be of any use?

@@thisistheendpt2 I have a similar issue that I inherited with my house and the previous owners just dug a shallow dip in the yard to redirect all the water from the neighborhood behind me diagonal crossed my yard into my side yard and out into the street without any thing else and it is effective unless we have torrential rain all at once. So I asked about the plastic sheeting because some landscapers don’t like it because the plastic can leech in to the ground. So possibly there’s weed fabric, however that can also deteriorate or possibly she put decomposed granite under the dry riverbed.
