After you complete surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy for breast cancer, sometimes your doctor will prescribe additional medicine to take on an ongoing basis. Many times it is Tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor, both often can cause uncomfortable side effects. Medicla oncologist, Milana Dolezal, provides an overview of what is normal and what is not normal when taking these medicines. She also shares tips on how to manage and reduce these medicines' side effects.

Clinical Depression should not be in the same category as fatigue. It is much more dangerous and not given the attention it deserves.

Even to suffer from 1/2 the side effects listed is enough to make many. Say hell no to Aromatase inhibitors. Whether it be Anastizole or Tamoxifen. The list is long and very troubling especially if you already have joint pain issues or anxiety. With women my age is highly probable. Something with fewer side effects is desperately needed.

The medical community needs to do better. These suggestions are mere superficial bandaids on horrific post treatment drugs. Most people I know taking them can barely get out of bed.

Thank you for saying this. Exercise, healthy eating, reducing stress and social support are hugely important in any disease process. However, it is very difficult to find a balance in this crazy world when we are well. Has the focus been on quantity over quality of life? Longevity and survivorship years look good on a graph but who pays the emotional and physical toll?

I take Anastrozole. My legs ache something fierce. I take T3’s only at night. So I can sleep with less pain. 3 years in, 2 years to go. I can’t wait. I’m on Zometa for bone health. I find eating less bad carbs reduces my hot flashes. My weight gain hasn’t been too bad. I’m on Anastrozole. I did a lumpectomy, chemo, mastectomy and radiation. Post menopausal.

Thank you for trying to help people adjust. The estrogen inhibitors (mine is anastrazole) can have a lot of side effects like bone loss, hot flashes, weight gain, nausea, insomnia, higher cholesterol, etc. The list goes on and on. I have just begun my 5 year plan. I did some things before my mastectomy…. Like lose weight, walk, eat Whole Foods, etc. I feel much better. I was afraid I would have some bad side effects from the Ana pill but…. So far only slight effects. I know some hit harder later (like bone loss) but as for the other side effects it has not been bad. (Except the sex drive went to zero). I used to have bad aches in my joints but before I found out I had the tumor, I took turmeric and quit sugar and got rid of the aches. They have not come back yet. Best wishes to anyone else going through this. I’m over 60.

Turmeric has estrogen in it. Can’t have it if the breast cancer was estrogen dominant

@sheila7814 Месяц назад
@@motherof1132 I will have to run that by my oncologist and do some more research on it….. She told me it was fine to take turmeric. Hmmmm. I did some research for a few min….. and found turmeric can help protect against breast cancer because it activates the p52 gene. Turmeric does not have estrogen in it. What source did you find that shows that? I searched quite a few sites…. It only states that it has a protective aspect against breast cancer because it activates the p52 gene. Double check your source. I think you were ill informed on this topic maybe.

I am not a happy camper with Anastrozole. Grateful my oncologist is giving me a 2 week break. I was seriously a zombie and hope we can find an alternative.

And cheese can raise cholesterol which is a side effect of anastrozole (high cholesterol). I love cheese…… I think I will try to work on my calcium by taking a pill with vit D and weight bearing exercise.

I have watched so many videos etc. I am starting radiation soon. The Dr. Told me Letrazole for 10 years. I am terrified of the side effects. I think I am opting out of the AI. It sounds like I'd rather be dead then live like that.
@sheila7814
@sheila7814 8 месяцев назад
@@annnorthup3871 so far the anastrozole (my AI) has not affected me in all the ways the internet has said. There are so many “possible” side-effects, but I was not sick, I do not ache (yet), I do not have hot flashes, am a little more moody but that could be because I have (HAD) cancer, and none of the other side effects have come yet for me except a slight foggy brain if I have not slept enough hours (like when I took care of a relative that had surgery). The pill has not even interrupted my sleep because I exercise enough to be tired and need the sleep. I am mainly concerned that it might raise my cholesterol and increase my osteopenia, but I am working on ways to avoid that as well if possible. I have not been good about cheese or fats as of yet, but I plan to get my cholesterol checked and if it has gone up, then I will change that part of my diet as well. As for osteopenia, I am taking Ca, D3, K (MK7 - every other day to twice a week), doing weight bearing exercise, walk 6-8 miles over the 17 hours I am awake, and I bought a vibration plate for exercise…. Going to give that a try.
