MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester Fire and AMR Ambulance were dispatched to a construction site inside 215 Canal St. for a person injured and trapped under a small excavator on Tuesday.
When they arrived at about 1:15 p.m., they found a worker in a large trench with the excavator on top of them. Additional resources were requested, bringing specialized technical rescue crews and the building collapse unit.
Firefighters used multiple pieces of equipment and techniques to lift the excavator enough to extricate the injured man. After 40 minutes of extrication, the man was rushed to the Elliot Hospital Trauma Center for what Manchester Fire Chief Ryan Cashin described as serious.
The building, which is under construction, has significant demolition and work being done in preparation for new businesses, including a brewery that will occupy the space.
Manchester firefighters and police requested OSHA respond to the scene to handle the incident investigation.
The exact injuries of the worker, age, and who he worked for are unknown.
