Well done Zoe and Bima. Really enjoyed the tour and it will be very useful for future architecture students who plan to study in Manchester or who is looking for a good school.
Hey Zoe, I've been accepted to the MSA part 1 starting this september and I have heard a lot of cricisim regarding the school like it's a student factory, no studio culture, grade inflation, unexperienced lecturers and so on. Obviously all schools will have critics, but the MSA does have a surprisingly low representation in architectural discussions compared to how high it ranks on websites such as QS. Seeing the studios and how they are pretty much just empty rooms with tables and seats also does not give me a lot of confidence. What do you think of these critics and what do you think of your time spent there?
Hi Zoe, I am making a decision on whether to go to Uni of Liverpool or Manchester School of Architecture for my Part 2. And I was wondering if the building has any open hours or restriction regarding access for students during the academic year, with the work culture of staying up late to complete work, was wondering if that's possible in the architecture building (as online it suggest to close at 9pm)? Thanks for your help and a brill video!
hi! Thank you for watching the video! The building is normally open early, 8am? I'm not too sure but it closes at 10pm when I was in my first year. I think the close even earlier nowadays at 8pm. But most architecture students then move to the library to work as it's open 24/7. So I would say whether the building opens late or not, there is still a late working culture🤣
Hey, I’ve also got an offer from the University of Manchester, MSA . My query is during the starting payment for MSA, does Manchester Met. collects it or the University of Manchester themself?
Hi! I had the same question and got a direct response from UoM. In their own words: "Manchester School of Architecture is a joint school between The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). Applications to Master’s courses are dealt with by MMU, however, you will be registered as a student with both Universities when you start on the course. Classes will take place at both Universities and you will use study facilities of both Universities. When you graduate, the degree certificate bears Crests of Arms of both Universities." Hope this helps!
Hi! Yes, the admissions of undergraduate for architecture is handled by the University of Manchester so if they issued you an offer, you will be able to study at Manchester School of Architecture and hold student IDs and use facilities from both MMU and UOM!
hi zoe! im planning on studying architecture at UoM this september. What laptop do proffesors at your uni recommend you? Im currently leaning towards the M1 Macbook but not sure if its compatible with arch software used at UoM. Much appreciated! ;)
hi Yasmin! Out professors don't really recommend us laptops so it's generally fine with what you use. I an using a Windows laptop so I am not sure whether a MacBook is good or not. We usually use sketchup and Adobe suite for software!
If u are rich enough, you could get M1 and purchase softwares. But if you are a budding person in finance then go for Windows with a good spec so u could crack arch softwares and use it. However idk whether the univ gives you the free version. Maybe u earn more and purchase and use the original ones on the macbook...
