Umar Saleem, Mott Macdonald, talks us through the Manchester Ship Canal that arose out of need when Manchester established itself as a world leader in industry in the 19 century. It was a huge project that cost 15 million pounds (1.5 billion by today's standards) and employed 1600 people to build it.

Liverpool ferries do, (or did?) trips on the whole length of the canal and bus you back. A good day out for canal & ship enthusiasts, if the sun shines.?

Peel Ports aka Peel Holdings is a Manchester company = Manchester now owns Liverfool docks. A complete turnaround from when they tried to strangle our once fledgling inland port.
