We are some way short of the dizzying heights of the Sir. Alex Ferguson era but Manchester United registered tremendous improvement in their fortunes during the 2017-18 season. Jose Mourinho is not too shabby.
The best season Manchester United had after Sir Alex Ferguson retired. What they achieved that season despite not winning any trophies: 1. Winning against all Premier League opponents at least once. One of the best games was the 3-2 win against the centurion team, Man City at Etihad. 2. Second best defense in Premier League (28 goals conceded, 1st was Manchester City with 27 goals conceded) 3. 15 points (5 wins) in Champions League group stage 4. Most consistent season. This team never went below 3rd place in the Premier League for that entire season. Manchester United was at 2nd place for most rounds in the Premier League 5. The team has never conceded more than 2 goals even in a single game that whole season! Prime David De Gea! 6. Scored above 100 goals in all games in all competitions that season despite being a defensive team.
What's incredible is that this was seen as failure yet when Manchester United finished 2nd with fewer points in the 20-21 season, it was seen as success.
lingard = best season of his career martial = great finess goals but was lost after January lukaku = good goalscoring form rashford = important goals but not great yet pogba = overall good season
The wheels came off the next season because of United (Glazers) failing to acquire his prime targeted reinforcements. It became a procession to the guillotine after that in keeping with Mourinho's 3-season rule.
