I watched the commercials for years, this very same man on the screen walking up and handing the person that answers the door a 4ftx2ft check. I know what I saw, I know who the man was, he always im Ed McMahon from publishers clearing house. Millions of people that grew up in the 80s and 90s remember the same exact thing.

My mother always filled out the PCH entries and we all dreamed of ED MCMAHON showing up with the Prize Patrol to give us a giant check!

I remember Ed and Dick Clark delivering those big checks. I was born in 1982. Weird times we are living in.

Ed McMahon was a carrier-qualified fighter pilot and instructor and a combat forward air controller in Korea whose job was to fly around in a small plane and get the enemy to shoot at him so that the fighters could attack the gun emplacement. He was more than just Carson’s sidekick.

I remember my grandmother wanting Ed to show up. But as a kid I never could imagine him showing up in the hood with that big ass check. I was a kid, I didn't know the checks weren't real. Ed was a lot more than just Johnny's sidekick. He was a carrier-qualified fighter pilot, an instructor for F4U corsair fighters, and was a forward air controller (FAC) during the Korean war, flying a Cessna O-1 bird dog. His job was to fly slowly over enemy territory in order to draw anti-aircraft fire so the fighters could attack the gun emplacements. He retired as a full colonel. Johnny Carson was a guy who did everything with his mouth. To be known only as Johnny's sidekick must have been tough for Ed.

We always had publishers clearing house in our mailbox! He was on the FN envelope! All the commercials especially on Sundays

It's not a mandala effect, I have a few old VHS tapes that my mom recorded tv shows onto and commercials got mixed in,and the commercial with ,Ed in it giving these checks to people. 🤣😂 I'm going to try to load them

He even did a spoof on a sitcom once where an Asian family thought they won. He was asking for directions and left.

Hi -- Todd Sloane SVP/Creative Publishers Clearing House and creator of the Prize Patrol (along with Dave Sayer). Always love this topic. Here are the facts. Ed McMahon never worked for Publishers Clearing House and he never surprised winners at their homes. There is not one piece of video that shows Ed saying the words "Publishers Clearing House" or surprising any real sweepstakes winners for Publishers Clearing House (or any other sweepstakes company). To the contrary, there are tons of commercials showing that he worked for American Family Publishers and appeared in these commercials on a set with people who had already been told that they won that sweepstakes (no surprise knocks on doors). When Ed says “he has personally awarded millions of dollars” that just means he met the winners on a commercial set months after they had been told they won and congratulated them.” There are hundreds of videos for Publishers Clearing House online showing our Prize Patrol knocking on doors and surprising winners, including the famous "Super Bowl Sunday" surprises (and again with no Ed McMahon). I should know, I was there for all of this. As mentioned, Ed (and later Dick Clark) worked for American Family Publishers, a "me too" copycat competitor of Publishers Clearing House that ran the same business and same promotions (Win $10 Million) as Publishers Clearing House. Both Publishers Clearing House and American Family Publishers ran huge advertising campaigns. These TV advertising campaigns ran for the most part over a concentrated 2-3 week period (with the biggest ones post-Christmas/New Year's/Super Bowl) to support the massive mailings of the sweepstakes envelopes that were delivered to nearly every home in America. Publishers Clearing House was a well known brand (having started business in 1953). Ed McMahon was a well known celebrity and the ads for the two companies would often run in the same program (sometimes in the same commercial break). It's clear many viewers, media, news reporters, tv producers and consumers confused them to be all for the same company (PCH). (Again, I know this because one of my jobs was to purchase media time for PCH and monitor what commercials AFP was buying). At PCH, we never went out of our way to clear up the confusion because we viewed the ads for AFP with Ed as free advertising for us (knowing that people thought he worked for us). As you can see in the AFP TV ads, Ed makes a big deal about 'the one with my picture on it" because AFP was aware of the confusion and was really trying to differentiate themselves and steal business from PCH. The "residue" from sitcoms, Johnny Carson, news reports, etc. is just false memory of people juxtaposing the two companies. I can easily understand why people are so confused and would "swear on their life" that Ed worked for PCH, surprised winners at their homes, waiting for him to knock on Super Bowl Sunday, but it never happened and there is absolutely no evidence that would indicate otherwise. Those are the facts. Here's a clip of Ed McMahon being interviewed by Jon Stewart where Ed corrects Jon when Stewart brings up Publishers Clearing House (at :28 in). Additionally, Ed talks generically about "bringing the money" and "camera crews" and ignores Jon's piece about "surprising the people (like Cops)" because, again -- that never happened. Do you really think, AFP would fly Ed all over the country and knock on strangers doors unannounced? Of course not, because it would be a waste of time and money, Having done this for many years for PCH (where the surprises are totally real -- not set ups), I can tell you there are many times the winners aren't home, live in rural hard to get to areas, etc.). That's why Ed/Dick could never do this. The AFP winners were notified by phone/mail, then brought to a soundstage in the Los Angeles area where they "met" Ed. That's how it worked. There was such confusion on Ed surprising people at their home, that in the end of his career he just went along with it. I always envision Ed McMahon appearance as more of a vice president or ceo of a company than a celebrity.

Most people claim to remember Ed McMahon being the spokesman for Publishers Clearing House. But the Mandela effect is that he worked for American Family Publishing, instead. I too, remember holding up envelopes with Ed McMahon's image with the words Publishing Clearing House on them. I grew up in Canada (BC). Tom Green also grew up in Canada (Ottawa) and he remembers the Ed McMahon envelopes too. here's the reason why I bring up Canada. It is because American Family Publishing claims to have never operated in Canada. Only the United States. But. it was pretty well known that Publishers Clearing House did operate in Canada up to the 2000's, but they do not any more. If American Family Publishing didn't do their giveaways in Canada, then why does Tom Green remember getting them in the mail, before he moved to the United States? Tom Green didn't move to the US until after his success with the Tom Green Show that originally aired on Rogers in Ottawa.

1) he did do ads for American Family Publishers, a PCH rival. I know this to be true. 2) he did do spoof videos of himself delivering big cardboard checks to people, some of which were labeled "Publishers Clearing House." There was never any money involved in the skits unless they got paid as actors for "winning" the cardboard checks. 3) he never visited anyone's home to deliver an actual AFP prize, although we are assured that people did win. (Or, to my knowledge, any house to deliver any prize whatsoever. I do know that they used to tell us every year, "Ed McMahon is not coming to your house if you win.") 4) I used to say "Ed McMahon is late with my check," but I literally don't remember it being PCH; I just remember ir being "some contest."

The Mandela Effect is CERN going through some gateway to different points in time and altering reality, albeit not intentionally trying to change things blatantly and for what reasons, the public will never know, but for every action there's a reaction, and since the first effect noticed, Nelson Mandela, Berenstein Bears, the Ford logo, Beats by Dr. Dre, etc, they've gotten better at covering up the residue and making sure everyone is remembering the same timeline, but occasionally, they miss something. The guy he interviewed with the long hair is Travis Barker before he became famous and before all of the tattoos! They are at a tattoo parlor and he is even wearing a Cadilac tshirt, a brand he is known to have loyalty to and tattoos of.

What is funny, it's called the Mandela Effect "because of false memories of Mandela dying in prison in the 1980's..." Really? So how can a person have two different memories about an event that are both true and false at the same time? Example: If you believe Mandela died in a prison in the 1980's. How can you also believe he was president of South Africa in the 90's? Answer: You CAN'T. Have you ever forgot to do something? In your mind you know you did it, you can even remember doing it. Now think of that same event, can you remember not doing it, unless you are shown prof? No, you cannot, because your brain is wired to remember events in a certain way and if a distraction interrupts the event, then you form an incomplete memory. But, once you have proof that you "forgot" or you 'learned" new information about the event, your mind over rights the incomplete memory and the more complete memory takes over. The Mandela effect is a fabricated psychological disorder made up to have people second guess their reality so the controlling powers can shape society by secretly changing events to meet their agendas. Just think about it. What is the best way to change the direction of a society without blatant changes to laws or history? Answer: change the laws and fabricate history in secret and then convince the people they misunderstood (false memories) of the laws and history to begin with.

It was American family not publishers clearing house. They were doing the same thing whenever I was just clearing house. Put a commercial out. They would copy it and they had Ed McMahon Google, Ed McMahon American family and you’ll see many videos and old commercials.

As a teenager I used to enter that sweepstakes publishers clearing house and would subscribe to many magazines and enter the 10 million dollar sweepstakes imagining If Ed McMahon would be travelling to my isolated reserve in northern Ontario with a a cheque for 10 mil. Lol. But I did win those little side prizes like my favourite was a camera made by zenith lol. Zenith wasn’t as big as it is today but it was a cheap a$$ light as cardboard box camera which still worked but I was never able to get my pics developed as we had to fly out yo the nearest city of Winnipeg Manitoba or the smaller towns of red lake or Sioux lookout Ontario But Ed McMahon was a name I’ve often thought about like in reserves we have cousins and wondered if Ed was Vince McMahons cousin or brother or just related. Just because internet says one thing doesn’t necessarily make it true my aunt entered PCH a few times Ed’s face was on the envelope as some argued but some want to argue regardless like I know what I saw I remember the commercials . They just must wanna make us seem crazy it was the biggest scam ofc it’s being covered up now . Caused by the Air Force doing time travel Experiments in the early eighties every time we went back in time you created a new timeline just by arriving in that time line.
