I played at a jam once at a bar in Chapel Hill with an audience. Andrew joined in and played amazing breaks on songs I had written and offered me time on his songs. I knew I had played music with the best mandolin player, by far, that I had ever performed with. He was kind enough to compliment me on my songs. It wasn't until later that a friend in the audience told me who I had been playing with. One of the fondest memories in music for a 75 year old guy.
I think that's what great musicians do ... hear the music in other musicians and share songs, stages, stories, lives. Genuine generosity. So glad you got to experience this. I've become quite devoted to Mandolin Orange, though I've never seen them live.
@@ih8music yeah, I agree! If only we could get these crazy leftist democrats to honor civility! The summer of 2020 they destroyed entire cities over leftist lies, what is wrong with those people?
Found these guys on npr about 5 months ago and cant get enough of them . I had pretty much stopped listening to music . My soul just begs to hear more of them . Nobody has moved me like mandarin orange has in my 62 years .
If you enjoy moving music, I suggest "Little Musgrave" by the great Celtic band, Planxty. Give it a listen and tell me what you think...by the way 'Mandolln" can still be edited in your original posting...
@8 am in the morning, sitting here in a small village in country side Japan, looking at rice field, listening to this...... for some reason, I can only picture my good old friends in America.... in tears. THANKS to the power of great music !!!
It is October 2020 during Covid and I am working from home. I am lucky enough to be able to listen to this while I am at work. Thank you Mandolin Orange for your beautiful soothing music for me and so many. We really need this right now

Damn! I was supposed to be doing the laundry, but started watching this and couldn’t stop. The group has a unique and addictive groove. Kind a draws one into the spirit of the event like a magnet, even on RU-vid. Phenomenal technique and unity.
I don't know but I believe that lead Mandolin Orange fiddler is the happiest person I've ever seen. She has the best smile and the brightest eyes. What a pleasure to watch.
@@jacquesblaque7728 ? She seems quite content to her task and performance of the vocal story. I think she could be a world class actress. Is that the "Drama Queen" that you speak of ???
One of my favorite memories of the 2018 Blue Ox festival...watching these two turn a large and sorta rowdy bunch of festival goers into a hushed living room of intent listeners..there is just something really special about Andrew and Emily.
It was like that when I saw them in 2019 at The Vogue in Indianapolis. Many in the crowd started out rowdy, talking. Before long, especially for their many "soft" songs, the audience was quiet as a "church mouse." These guys make some fine music. God, I miss live performances!! Go Away Freaking Covid! The audio on this is incredible. Great job to the people at Green Mountain.
Listening to this music, and reading the comments that all seem to lead the same direction have given me full-bodied chills as I have never experienced before. We are listening to something SPECIAL, and I am thankful you guys can feel it too.
Yeah, my first impressions too. Just , WOW! I must have more. Thank goodness 3 years later they are still doing this! More new music, a new name and a beaming future!
Where might a guy be able to find these Festivals BlueGrass Shows , freshly back from Alaska id like to spend a weekend with a full feild of Spectstors Hippies and outback Folks listening enjoying theyre weekend too Festival Music Bluegrass Blues Moutain Music point me in the right direction
Beautiful story Gene! They are fantastic and so peaceful to listen to! To live lakeside and hear their music over the waters in the morning with a fresh coffee is a very nice feeling!

Great folk/bluegrass music. Listning to them a while now. Really warm my heart. Down to earth music. Thanks for sharing. Regards from Norway, north of the polar circle.
The most watched/replayed parts of the videos @ 7:00 , 33:33 & 39:18 - mandolin and violin players taking notes. 🙏♥ thanks for posting, love these guys.
Love your Music! Will miss seeing and hearing you and Tommy Edwards play together. Thank God for video's and camera's. RIP My Teacher and long Time Friend, Tommy Edwards. Look forward to hearing and meeting you in person Andrew!
Some of the best duet harmonies out there, but when the guitar player (sorry, never caught his name) jumped in on that trio, omg, the hair on my neck stood up
@@DWHarper62 It sounds like they had a board feed in the first song. Not too sure what's going on with the sound. Sounds like they've tried to combine both the ambient mic and the board feed in some parts
I've been listening to you guys for 3 days now . Think I'm a fan, ... .! Update, 3 years later .... Em, this is my favorite rendition, this song makes me FEEL. I am an outdoorsman, I know how embers shine in the night. My memories, of her, emblaze on my mind while hearing you! I will listen to you, till I have no ears ! Or tears! Yeah. That! ........ Andrew, the picking on Wildfire, wow, I hear this in my dreams, dreaming of playing, swaying and singing Wildfire to my boys! Thank you so much!
This was an amazing festival, with this set being one of the highlights. Collaboration deluxe abounded all weekend as there was so much beauty and playing. Can't wait for this August as they return.
What a fantastic show... wish I could've been there yet grateful I got to experience the magic of a Mandolin Orange concert. Thank you Emily, Andrew, & band. Y'all are so awesome!!!
I love this group. I just noticed today I don't remember to thumbs-up them on the Tube, and in asking myself why I realize I'm just back to get some primo relax on (while coding in my case, but there's a crossover in that the Santa Cruz Farmer's Market had awesome live bluegrass while I was learning to do what I learned to do while in a tent in the mountains behind my school). Thanks for this music! We're now in Berkeley, STL, MO, and can you please come here and play!? Outdoors? I'll take the day off.
Listening to this music while sharing with Pete Seeger music. Brings memories and new beginnings . I love this like I love folk. They invite me to "sing my soul out".
I absolutely love Mandolin Orange and listen to it everyday. My favorite song is The Wolves... this is my favorite recording of it! Stellar! If you ever come to WV let me know... I've got a great friend I'm sure you'd love to pick with... Johnny Staats.... check him out he's on youtube and facebook and has been on the Grand Ole Opry numerous times. World class mandolin player.
What a band! Love Andrew's beautiful playing as I'm trying to learn mandolin , but overwhelmed by the talent of all the band . I listen to this set SO much .... Thanks to all of you
Thank you for posting! This bit of summer festival love is all kinds of heart opening and sparks memories of seeing them the week before in Lyons for the Planet Bluegrass Folks Fest referenced. May we all gather again soon.
One of the best duo bands I've heard recently. I really appreciate the background story as well. Your music is beautiful and if I can see you both in concert one day, I will. Until then, I will enjoy your work on RU-vid and purchase on Itunes. Much Love!!
All you people complaining about "the sound"... Listen past the first song... by the 3rd song, it was perfect and spectacular throughout, including the 1 mic stuff... Now go back and listen to Echo and let the tears flow from the beauty...
I just found you two. What a wonderful thing you are doing with your lives. I am so proud our country produces such as yourselves. Will definitely be in attendance when the CV is over and you two are live in Texas, or Michigan. Good time to write isn't it?
@25 minutes, Wildfire is a brilliant take on the evolution of race relations in America. “Blessed be the peace makers for they shall inherit the kingdom of god.”
