This coaster is perfect for many kinds of people that are not coaster enthusiasts. We got a new family wing coaster from b&m in legoland germany with a similar thrill level as this one and it's a total success. Perfect way of experiencing a little bit of a tamer coaster with inversions to eas people in and for people that just don't like that intense stuff we do. Let's just be honest, most of us coaster enthusiasts can't look through the eyes of the general public, since we are too nerdy for that myself included^^.
@@user-ec7nq2sx6r@trevorjensen2706 Literally every manufacturer has repetitive layouts and/ or elements. They are all the same. What it comes down to is positive/ lateral/ negative forces, speed, height, smoothness.
I think wing coasters are some of the most aesthetically pleasing coasters to watch. Also, ostriches are my favorite animal by a long shot so that ostrich ride is absolutely adorable. I’d go to Chessington just for this honestly
It’s definitely a crowd pleaser i love it for the park. Sometimes it shakes think it makes its fun, the lunch is snappy and the top hat is sick very different
I definitely think that people slate it way to much, as much is it has a bounce, it didn’t hinder the experience for me and I actually really enjoyed it. The hangtime on the scorpion tale in the back was actually scary and I must the coaster exceeded my expectations.
that procedure is probably because of it being a shuttle coaster. tall gates.. but i could see some hooligans jumping it one day. Also, at this point I think it's fair to expect B&Ms to not be glossy smooth anymore. Something's changed and their newer models from late 2010s and on have a tendency for some rattle.. nothing usually painful, but their older stuff is just more smooth. They have smooth rides still obviously, but it's not as much as it was
I just wanted to say, you really covered everything perfectly, and very concisely. I discovered the coaster community really a few weeks back - and your style is my favourite by far. Did you notice the spikes just before launch 3? Possibly the worst footchopper I've ever seen... Now prepare for an essay. Ridden this 3 times now (2 visits); my first ride was on the backwards row and the first spike caught me a bit suprised that it actually felt like an inversion. Would recommend to try that row once to anyone, for the spike, and also for the fourth launch. That fourth launch (the one after the spiral-helix-statue-whatnot) was quite decent backwards. My second ride was row 2 (skipped 15 mins of queue to single ride - ride op was feeling nice I guess? - otherwise would have gone row 1), and was wildly different of course. As you say, the start was very underwhelming - and that was pretty much it. My next visit I got another ride, on row 1, and it was by far my favourite. The wind in the second launch (forwards through the station) made it feel pretty intense (my dad didn't expect that one from a family coaster - was his first ride) and the third is decent as well. The inline twist reminded me a lot of Saw - and weirdly enough I actually prefer it to the roll on Saw because of the way they place it above the entrance. However, I don't think the vest restraints do it justice in terms of hang quality. I guess you can't really go with Skyrocket II restraints/roll combo on a family wing coaster, but I was disappointed. The vest did make the sideways hang nice though, that was certainly something I had never experienced for that long and I did not expect it to be as comfortable as it was. Also, I really haven't experienced my fair share of wing coasters - so that shaking is not very familiar to me. This is going to sound very weird, but it actually reminded me of the second launch on Velocicoaster with the shaking through a launch - especially on the front row where the wind makes it feel like even more acceleration. Despite the epic inversion-ish on the back row, the first spike isn't my favourite. Well it was, because the best I really had before was Tigris and the inversion-ish beats that. But a couple weeks back I was in France, visited Disney and Asterix. That spike has NOTHING on Toutatis. My row range on that was 2-8 (out of 10) so no ends - single rider, and yet both spikes were incredible at their respective sections of the train. Plus the people in the Gyrofolix queue and the viewing platform taking loads of photos, stick your hands up on the backwards one! But Toutatis actually doesn't have my favourite spike, that goes to RC Racer. You heard me. RC Racer. TL;DR: Spot the spikes? Didn't think so. Try the bw row once. Then only ride the front. Underwhelming but well placed roll, Skyrocket II better though. Launches feel like Velocicoaster with the shaking, and almost have the same feel on the front row. Second spike weird. First spike decent, inverts back row ish. I rode Toutatis, first spike no longer good enough to be decent. RC Racer better than Toutatis spikes though. Read the PS. And the PS 2. I don't have a PS5. PS: I mentioned the backwards row, it was my first and hence favourite when I rode it. Then I had my first and third rides on Tonerre 2 Zeus on the backwards row. Put simply, Mandrill's is no longer my favourite. PS 2: B&M kid's dive in the statue when.
5.5 also seems to be the target demo for this ride. If you want to do your first launch, first backwards experience, and first inversion all in one coaster, Mandril Mayhem has you covered. It makes sense as a warm-up for Swarm and Stealth, but that's about it.
My 7yo loved this coaster - and I have to say I really enjoyed it too. Rode the front row, and towards the back, and they are different experiences. Definitely unique.
went on it for the first time the other day, got 2 rides on it. near the front. so diddnt get the go inverted on the spike yet. but it was a very fun ride. the lsm's are more punchy than I thought it would be. and the hang time is great. perfect family thrill ride for chessington to break the long wait since there last coaster in 2004 ! Also, I feel like B&M always have a hystory of making a really tame coaster for there first time doing somthing new, like oblivion is really boring other then the drop.
It’s certainly an interesting choice. They could have used the Floorless or perhaps even the Hyper trains, but for some reason they chose the Wing coaster trains
Legoland germany got a new B&M family wing coaster with a similar intensity level. I think this coaster fits perfect in more family orientated parks and B&M might look in that direction. The thrill coaster section is being bombarded with something new almost every month, but the family sector need some more inovations without upping the intensity.
It's nice to finally hear a coaster enthusiast that isn't drooling over this coaster like some well known UK coaster tubers are, this ride really doesn't get me excited, even my kids have said it looks boring
I actually rode this a bit earlier in the year to cross launched coasters off my bucket list. Went when I had a weekday off work during term-time so rides were a walk-on. I enjoyed it. I found it had a bit of everything force-wise. Longitudinal Gs from the launch, positives through the helix, and the hang-time off the stalls was cool.
chessington's been my home park my whole life and i was so excited to see them finally get a new coaster, which probably makes me super biased towards this but... yeah, i enjoyed this one a lot. it's 100% bouncy but i honestly didn't mind much, it's definitely not the most amazing thing ever but it's so stupidly fun i couldn't help but like it
Its a good starter coaster which was the aim. Its by no means conventional but i enjoyed it. Thunderbird it aint....but that wasnt the breif. I found this coaster is very seat dependent with the back rows being by far the best.
We have ridden Mandrill Mayhem a number of times, this coaster suits Chessington perfectly, and although world of Jumanji is a very small area its still very well themed, and the way Mandrill wraps around it is awesome. We did notice quite a large amount of bouncing on row 5 last time we rode though and hope this does not get worse as the coaster ages.
i think this coaster was more intended to be a gateway coaster so that kids can experience their first inversion and then move onto the other merlin uk parks like alton towers
It's weird. I still think this was Merlin buying from their Swiss friends. But actually, it's not a bad ride and perfect for Chessington and is proving to be very popular. The launch forwards is also surprisingly thrilling!
i think this coaster idea is really good and with mandril mayhem being the first of its kind being a wing shuttle coaster and there is a feel for what it feels like and that there is some editing that probably needs to be done with this coaster type and if another one is built that one will give a better ride experience and fix what needed to be fixed.
Only just rode for the first time yesterday. Row 4 and the backwards row at the back. I really agree with a lot of this. I messaged my fellow thoosie friend after first ride like "It's OK. Nothing more nothing less." The backwards row did significantly improve the experience I would say. The inversion is so slow that I wouldn't be suprised if it actually put some kids off going upside down because it is quite a bit of hang time for a first go IMO. Depends on the kid though ofc. I also thought the double helix stall out was weird but also just doesn't really add anything. It's kinda just uncomfortable pausing on your side. Especially when I had row 4 and was above the track. It is wonderfully well themed though and I'm sure for the most part it delights it's target audience which is the main thing.
I must say that I haven't ridden this coaster but from video's and other experiences that I had, I dont think this is a great fit for the park... When you have a pretty busy park and when your eye-catching rollercoaster has such a bad capacity seems like a recipy for huge lines which also move very slow. I dont know if the project was so land locked, but a bigger family coaster like pegase express in Parc Asterix would be a much better fit in my opinion. It too has a launch, a backwards session, has lots of potential options for theming/story based moments and even better runs multiple trains. + I do think that B&M is an expensive manufacturer so maybe you could even build a bigger ride for the same money. I'm not that deep into the financial side, more in the decoration quality, and I must say that the overal theming quality doesn't even look that good. Weird scale of the buildings, details seem rushed and the overal polish and materialisation just feels cheap. I know it is something, and these things are expensive but you just cant say that is that great. Such a shame for a coaster that was waited for for such a long time by fans of the park.
Solid review and you hit the nail on the head. I went on opening day and everything you said is 100% what I thought. It's a fun little ride and works well for the park but not a ride you get off and want to go immediately again. On another note 100% dragons fury is easily the best ride in the park if you get weight balance right it actually spins like crazy.
Off there this weekend. My little girl loves rides, but she's never experienced an inversion. This looks like a really good starting point for her - assuming I can get here away from Vampire and Dragon's Fury anyway.
I agree that dragons fury is the best ride in the park from an enthusiast perspective but really Mandrill Mayhem fulfills a specific need for a first inversion at the park and it does it in the gentlest way possible. To a kid this ride will be totally awesome and way more so than a vekoma boomerang.
It's annoying when UK parks want to have the "first" of things because they age poorly with every other park having much better versions. I don't want the first, i want the BEST versions.
@@WelshGuitarDudeone exception is nemesis which is still world class 25 years later. And also Chessington didn’t need a big impressive ride still needed to be a family coaster but I get what you mean.
@enzodiscoverymoonlight not sure that was a first of a kind lol It just has a record of most inversions and many coasters before it held that title and i am sure future coasters will too. I am talking about for example oblivion, the first ever v-drop coaster of its kind aged poorly compared to others out. Nemesis is one exception though.
Spot on review and I don't understand how something from b&m can be so uncomfortable. I would rate it behind Dragons Fury and Vampire in the park. I think the capacity is only around 320 guests per hour as I timed four minutes between each ride, which is beyond rubbish for a new main attraction coaster. You also mentioned about loading and how guests are held back from going into the station, I think that might be for safety due to the launch through the station.
I rode it twice yesterday (back row first), and didn't experience any bounce. I agree with the rest of your points though. The thing I don't like is that it's very favoured to the right-side, rear; they get more of a swing and more of a ride IMHO.
I don't like the restraints on wing coasters. They dig into my shoulders, making it hard for me to breathe. Flying coasters like Galactica are perfectly fine and comfortable. It also feels like I can never ride because I went on busy days, and the virtual queue was full. I got two rides in on seperate days and was assigned to the exact same seat, right side row 6. The ride experience itself had a fun first ten seconds but after that it feels like there is so much dead space. Dragon's Fury is considerably better in my opinion
My 8yr old rode it and said it didn’t make his top 500 … and he hasn’t done 500 yet, so I guess he’s planning ahead 😂 Although his no1 is Hyperion and ride to happiness squeezes into no 10, so I didn’t have high expectations going into the airgates tbh.
It's an interesting ride: clearly intended as a family coaster, but at the same time, my family would never ride it in a million years. I think you need a little bit of thrill-seeker quality to even dare to get on it after looking at it, because it has an inversion AND goes backwards, and those are both deal-breakers for a lot of people.
Really great ride sitting in the back seat facing the opposite way. Sat in the middle going forwards not as good . But having said that, I liked it. Just great fun. Obviously not on the level of The Smiler or Swarm but as the uploader says its a family coaster. I like all of the coasters at Alton Towers /Thorpe Park /Chessington old and new :)
Have u seen the announcement of the Efteling on looopings? The new expansion is pushed back to 2027 but they will build the highest attraction of the park there which could be up to 60 meters high and most likely a coaster. Id like to seen an video about that lol.
The Alan Parrish Was Here carving was from a scene in the first of the sequel movies. Not just the park paying homage to the original movie. The park was more referring to the sequel movie in my opinion
Raptor at Gardaland developed that bouncy feeling in the last few years (also thanks to poor maintenance by the park) Honestly, I'm quite concerned that MM already has it within a few months of opening
Even though its fairly close to me i think that i shall pass for now, i am at the stage where i would rather hop on a flight to Holland and go to Eftleling or Phantasiland. The parks in the uk definitely lack in what i would call entertaining coasters, which is usually associated with planning restrictions....
The new wing coaster in Legoland Deutschland is also a lil bit shaky - nothing severe but Sevenum has a much smoother one. Maybe it’s n issue related to the slow speed. Trains look awesome tho ❤
It suits the theme well, wrapping around the jaguar, ill give it that. But still seems an odd choice to me, doesnt really do a lot. Something along the line of Juvelen or Pégase Express, would have been better IMO.
It's flawed on so many levels. It seems like it was signed of by someone who was only interested in building it to look nice and creating marketing material (Cant' have the talles / fastest, but wierd we can have), while sticking to a corperate penny saving deal (having to use a B&M wing design)
Taylor saying it didn't do much for him is a "well duh" moment because he's an enthusiast with experiences on some of the world's most intense coasters. This ride experience may not be the most exhilarating or lengthy, but it's a family ride. It's not supposed to impress the enthusiasts.
But there’s plenty of family rides that ARE totally satisfying! It’s not about expectations- I knew very well going in that it wasn’t going to be the most extreme.
This seems like a ride a kid would love to death because it’s so unique but as an adult you don’t love it kinda like going back to an old movie that you used to love
@@CoasterStudios I'm experiencing a similar moment of revelation here. I looked it up, and I'm guessing you entered by the hotel? Is that the main entrance? We came in by Jumanji, and it was a strange entrance with extremely minimal infrastructure. Maybe we came in the back?? I'm super confused now! haha
@@Cr4ZyCaptain Deutschland. Honestly it's a bit of a weird choice for a LEGOLand park, they tend to stick to more tame rides even compared to other family-focused parks.
I agree pretty heavily with everything in the video, but I want to emphasize how weird that sideways hang at the top of the spike in the helix is. It's just uncomfortable. Since it's so slow, you're really just hanging there feeling like you're half out the seat on the side and you're holding yourself up, but not because you're afraid you'll fall out or anything (obviously you won't but you know, the feeling), but because if you don't it's just uncomfortable. Really didn't like that. It added nothing. I feel like it would have been infinitely more enjoyable if they did something else with that element. The rest was just ok, but an ok coaster is still a pretty good time usually.
I definitely agree, I should’ve put more emphasis on that. It’s a weird climax for the ride- normally rides build up to something really cool and this climax is just… not pleasant
Was there opening day and been a few times since. It’s great ride for its target audience but underwhelming for anyone else. Fun enough for what it is though I suppose.
Honestly I find it funny how British enthusiasts just don't like the area and forget about it, but American enthusiasts think it's the coolest area in all of the UK.
@@CoasterStudios been there done that! Me and my brother are planning on building a record breaking wooden roller coaster but the project isn’t a go until we can get the money 💴
Loads do. SuperDuperLooper at Hersheypark, Revolution at Magic Mountain, the wing coaster at Legoland Germany, etc. Helps kids get used to going upside-down, and shows them it's not that scary. Like how Big Bear Mountain helps kids get used to airtime.
Weird ,define weird .I think chessington has done a real job with this rollercoaster kudos to John burton and his Imagineering team .I’ve visited loads of USA theme parks and feel some of the hyped up rollercoaster in the USA are 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻.
Every time I watch a video from this guy he complains about like the smallest things like he has this weird intention of how he should think the ride should be like I like your channel dude but the last few videos you’ve done like has just been nothing but complain about the smallest things 😂
It’s not really complaining, it’s constructive criticism. We’ve covered hundreds of roller coasters on this channel, we’re not going to just say every ride is perfect. That’s extremely rare. Each rides has its pros and cons discussed.
