I wondered why Mandy Moore disappeared from the public for a few years and it was during her marriage.

People who don't understand ABUSE rarely get it. It doesn't ONLY constitute domestic violence. It usually begins with; manipulation, social isolation, financial control, verbal lashings, emotional control, shaming and then, yes, additionally - physical violence. I grew up in a household with a father who did all of those things, and we had to run away three times, before we finally escaped for good. In total, it took us 10 years. I'm now a women's minister working in a charity helping women and their children who are also trying to break free. Many cases of verbal and emotional abuse that I deal with are WORSE than physical abuse, as the physiological effects on the women/and or children, can take a lifetime to undo. People who have never walked a mile in these shoes should be quick to listen and slow to judge. It takes much courage to come forward, because of fear of further shaming, further blaming and societal judgement. Being a celebrity or having a large income, does not exclude a person from suffering from abuse. Please educate yourself on facts, before you sound off, without qualification, on comments sections. Just a thought 💁🏿‍♀️

This sounds a lot like Narcissistic Abuse, abuse incurred by someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder or another cluster B personality disorder. They are extremely manipulative and controlling.

The "not a real musician" comment is seen all over music blogs. I chuckled when they said that one, but yeah I can see how she found it hurtful. It's such a music snob/hipster thing to say.

Adams has a long history of self-destructive actions....and Mandy Moore is NOT a musician...

Ummm...let me get this straight. Mandy was creatively and musically stifled when she was married to Ryan. Yet, she still managed to release music while still in the marriage, music which never made a dent and was at best, moderately successful. Not to mention, all of this news dropped almost right after Ryan announced new music in 2019. I feel there's more to the story folks.

I hope right now at the new chapter of her life, she can live much happier and more fulfilled.

As a survivor of extreme domestic violence, physical, emotional, mental & sexual abuse, I can empathize with other women who have been through some kind of abuse. Emotional & mental abuse can be very extreme & incredibly damaging, there were times I honestly would have rather he had just hit me again. The thing that bothers me about this report is that Mandy Moore is still giving her power to this man by saying things like "because he said I wasn't a real musician I missed out on a potentially lucrative career" no you allowed yourself to not pursue it because of his words & abuse. It's never the victim's fault BUT we still make choices to allow certain behaviors. I was terribly abused & that was not my fault BUT I allowed it, I allowed his words & actions to have complete power over me & my decisions. I don't know if this is going to make sense to people because it is hard for me to articulate what I mean on this subject. I am not victim blaming I'm just saying we always have choices.

I don't know if the accusations are true. What I do know is Ryan Adams has more talent in his pinky nail than Mandy has in her entire being.

I want to preface this by clarifying that I’m an avid equal rights supporter. Pro-choice, equal pay, ground-up overhaul of maternity policy, etc. Dig all of it. I consider the #MeToo reckoning to be socially critical and long overdue. So, there’s my safe harbor statement. Ryan Adams has a large, loyal fan base and his body of work is respected widely and deeply. Much of the appeal and appreciation lies in its honesty. We can all agree that he lays bare extremely dark stuff-childhood abandonment, poverty, abusive relationships, drug addiction, mental illness, loss, self-loathing, self-destruction, pretty much universally bleak. He’s a guy with a lot of demons, his emotional volatility / immaturity famously damaged his career and-by all accounts-he’s damaged goods in a big way. Oh, yeah: He’s also a rock star. You know, those guys who are most famous for their crippling fear of social taboos, categorical adherence to the law, model public behavior and, above all, unyielding respect for women. As a reasonable person, I know that involving myself in such a person’s life (especially in an intimate capacity), has a very high-probability of ending badly. When Ms Moore first became involved with him, she doubtless read his lyrics, Googled his backstory, asked around (same industry, for Christ’s sake) and was pretty much checked-in on who he is. Also wasn’t a secret that there was a fair bit of heroin in the mix. I’m not justifying or rationalizing anything he’s alleged to have said or done. But, I think it’s absurd to portray her victimization so melodramatically. It’s disingenuous on Moore’s part and NBC’s. Btw, he’s right: If you can’t play an instrument, you’re not a legitimately professional musician. Sorry, that’s just the cold light of day..

Once you fall in love with someone, fast, without knowing this persons....bad side. You become stuck, once you experience their bad side at full speed. You begin to make excuses for their behavior. Same excuses you would make about a friends bad behavior, or a family members bad behavior. You love this person, and you feel obligated to try to understand their behavior, and to try and fix it. If the person is a powerful person, and you love them, that’s when it gets hard. We view their criticism and advice as an important part of the relationship. They can love bomb you so powerfully, and then step on you with abusive words just as powerful. These people are Narcissist. Because we all know that if we love someone....we will do anything to not hurt that person. Especially with words. We don’t put down those we love. We can give constructive criticism in a healthy way, or in an abusive way. Those that are abusive get a high from doing so. It’s a sad place to be, by a Narcissist.
