I really like the Manfrotto 492 as a lightweight ball head. After using it for about 3 years it really started to slip and lose friction. There is a little trick to getting into these things and it's really easy to bring back the performance.

Have the same issue with a larger Manfrotto Ball Head and am about to attempt this fix, might start by just using some degreaser on the exposed section of the ball to see if that works before taking it apart. Fixed the tripod head, ended up needing to disassemble the head like shown in the video and I would have never guessed that there was a screw behind the model label and have not seen that advice elsewhere so thank you for that. The fix also took me about as long as it did in the video and was very easy and effective. Thank you!

What should I use to clean the ball? I have isopropyl alcohol (nail polish remover) at home. Is something else better? I have some O2 MAF/Carb fuel injector cleaner for my car as well.

How do you remove that from the pole? Is it screwed on? Thanks.

@@jeremygoertz to be honest I try to fix as much as I can myself. Doesn't always work out but I have saved a lot of $ and space in the landfill by swapping out a $40 board in a TV or refrigerator. What's really cool is being able able to download or design a part and cranking it out on the 3D printer. Pretty great feeling when it actually works out!
