@@Aidan-hf7lo i have not read the series yet. However, they are the source material but expand info.so I personally think you should try to read the first volume digitally and if you are satisfied buy more
Damn right years ago i bought king of wolves and japan. Its by the artist of Berserk and The writer of fist of the North star. Also i got the Spanish version of Berserk coviction arc volumes and first 2 volumes of hellsing quality cover is better than the american version imo. The volumes that are in spanish are of out print some are worth $100 or more
Manga is cheap compared to collecting comic books I have more manga but my comics are worth SO much more I sold about 100 mangas for $120 but I sold one comic book yesterday for $100. That’s how I’ve been Funding my collection
Yea like at my local bookshop manga is 5-10 pounds but the comics are like 18 but their manga section is trash they have like 5 of the 1st MHA one wrecked 2nd one and then like 18 and 19
Must suck to not be able to walk out the street and just go in to a second hand store and just pick up a manga for 100-200 yen ($1-2) Hi from Japan, kudos to you manga collectors (it's scary how much it cost outside of here) sorry for bad English, I've only been self studying it for 2 years
@@drk355 yeah, American comics prices are insane here in Japan. I only collect one English comic series, it's called the adventure of tintin. My wallet cries everytime I buy one of it...
First off your English is amazing man truly. Tokyo Japan is the number one place I want to visit for at least a few weeks, I was thinking of saving up and going with my girlfriend next summer, would you recommend me to start trying to learn Japanese now and how hard do you think it is to learn compared to English?
@@hakobo2744 you don't need to learn Japanese to have fun in Japan. it depends on where u go but almost all places that people typically visit are very english-friendly (not sure if that's a word), just pick up some words that might come in handy during travel and you'll be good to go But yeah I'd definitely recommend learning a new language (it doesn't necessarily have to be Japanese, just go with what u like) As for "was English hard to learn", yeah it was pretty tough in the beginning but watching cartoons and slowly transitioning into books and movies helped a lot. Personally I think it's harder for Japanese to learn English than for English speakers to learn jp (the amount of grammatical verb forms are insane and I think it'll take you a very long time until u pick up the basic kanjis, unless your Chinese, Japanese is very "anti-phonetic", if you don't know how to read the word, u just don't, it's not like other latin based languages that u can just guess the sound)
But they don't have any translated version in those stores right😢Even if I do visit Japan I can't buy those cheap mangas😢I won't be able to read them after all.

i’m new to this, i jus started watchin anime last year around march/april so about to be a year n i started collecting manga too ! so far i have tpn 1-18 demon slayer 1-20 rent a girlfriend 1-5 chainsaw man 1-3 and mieruko-chan 1-2, i’m glad i started watchin anime it changed my life
I loved that you mentioned Facebook Marketplace. That place and Kijiji are my go-to for manga. (Please note that I’m Canadian so the price for a normal size manga is 13$ here) I found in a span of a month I found for 10$ I got 21 volumes and for 80$ I got 100 volumes. Of course I had no idea what the series were and the 10$ ones smelled like weed for a few months, but I managed to find so many Tokyo Pop manga it was great.
sad thing is that in my country collecting manga is sooo difficult i have to import manga from canada and US its soo time consuming and expansive but u know the rest
M AB What country are you from, let me recommend book depository, it is cheap, they take money instantly, you can pay safely with pay pal and even get money back if you dont get your manga which almost never happen and they have great service, they resend manga, they cam refund and they even ship all around the world for FREE and they ship it to your local box office and they send you emails and you cant see ship status on their web and when your order arrives you will get a mail, i was unsure if i would get my stuff but it took like 16 days but i got my stuff un damaged i bought berserk deluxe edition 1,2 and 3.
same here, in new zealand manga is quite overpriced and the selection is quite limited. i use bookdepository though and its saved my life lol but its hard to find out of print stuff still (like katekyo hitman reborn)
I’m only 12 and I’ve only been collecting for about 6 months or so... Attack on Titan- 1-9 Attack on Titan: Junior high (complete) Attack on Titan: No Regrets (complete) My hero academia- 1-4 JoJo- 1-3 (part 1) The promised neverland 1-3 (I’m collecting it with my younger sister) And volume 1 of sailor moon And your tips are very helpful! Thank you
Yo I'm twelve too. Also my collection so far: naruto vol 1-9 My hero vol 1 All of bleach(I read it at the library) Sasuke sharingan legends(complete) Jojos is on it's way
I'm 12 too! I see another JoJo fan :D My collection is My Hero Academia 1-24 A Silent Voice 1-7 Death Note Black Edition 1-2 (buy the regular volumes black edition SUCKS) Mob Psycho 100 1-5 5 Centimeters Per Second Wolf Children
Tip 1.. If only I could buy from Right Stuff. There are a few online shops in my country that bring manga and it's usually market place or higher. Volumes that are $13 being sold for $18. Sales do come and some are below market price without a sale, too. But I do get discount codes often, like 25% off so that's good. So I tend to put aside the more expensive volumes for once a discount code comes.
This is really helpful thank you!! I’m starting my manga collection and right now I have the complete series for orange, a silent voice, and princess jellyfish. But I also have the first 1 or 2 volumes of other series :)
My favorite manga is GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka, and that's been out of print for a looong time (even though the sequel manga is on going in Japan.) So it being out of print doesn't mean it ain't good.
I've gotten quite a lot of manga from Ebay such as Bleach volumes 1-23 for about $50. I'm also collecting the Claymore manga which is one of my favorites.
@@sugeevan9171 I've read up to volume 18 of Claymore and so far I've enjoyed the story thus far. Lot of action and wide variety of monsters and slayers with different strengths and weaknesses. Kind of reminiscent to Berserk or the Witcher series.
I was just telling my husband how I always pick up the first three volumes of a series as for me that's usually the amount it takes for me to decide if I like the series or not and I'm glad someone else shares that preference 😁
Here's my collection seeming as everyones doing it (also includes LN's: Jojo's 1(1-3) and 2 (1-3) Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction 1-4 Land Of The Lustrous 1-7 Junji Ito's Cat Diary (My first ever manga, someone just randomly gave it to me one day and it spiralled from there) No Game No Life 1-9 Bloodlad 1-9, all time favourite and first anime I ever watched Arpeggio Of Blue Steel 1-5 Monogatari first/second season Zaregoto 1-3 Full Death Note series in that 2600 page mega book Hunter X Hunter 1-10
I usually watch the anime, but when I read my first manga a month ago, I realized how much I loved reading manga way better! Since then I got Volume 1-10 of fire force (just got 5-10 yesterday), my hero academia 1-24, and one punch man 1-2! I’m new to collecting, and I can’t wait to see my collection grow! Since I don’t have a job since I’m not old enough to get one, I ended up selling my tv in my room to get even more volumes! I still have quite a lot of money yet, but I’m gonna buy a shelf with the rest of the money.
I don't read a lot of manga but when i do, i read them online. Then i got the idea to order some manga books and compare the reading experience and i have to admit that reading them physically is completely different from reading them on a screen. On paper you get almost captivated by the artwork. I started with the first 6 volumes of "Vagabond" in the Vizbig format and the whole "Pluto" series. I also bought "Uzumaki" which is a very interesting and different read. I think, instead of throwing out my money every month for useless junk that holds no value, i will invest about 50-100 dollars in mangas each month.
Great tips! May I also add, if you are bilingual/multilingual you can buy manga in different languages, some foreign companies also print manga that is out of print in English. (it’s often cheaper too). I’ve been collecting for four years now, here’s my collection so far: In Russian: Future Diary 1-12 My little monster 1-11 Berserk 1 Noragami 1-10 Ajin Demi human 1-6 Tomie 1-2 A girl on the shore 1-2 In German: Gute Nacht Punpun box set Killing stalking season 1 box set Killing stalking season 2 box set Your name deluxe edition In English: Death note Black Edition 1-6 Tokyo ghoul 1-14 Tokyo ghoul re 1-16 Seraph of the end 1-18 Angels of death 1-9 Assassination classroom 1-21 Corpse party 1-5 Wolf Children Black butler 1-15 Pandora hearts box set The case study of Vanitas 1-5 Kakegurui 1-10 Vampire Knight 1-19 Banana fish 1-19 The saga of Tanya the evil 1-6 All of Junji Ito’s works Another Ibitsu Orange 1-2 I’m so proud of how far my collection has come 🥰
No One Heyy, please not that it is in German, but I got them from amazon, you have to buy volumes 1-3 separately and only volume 4 comes with the box to put them all in 😅 I hope I helped))
You should never buy anything at full retail price. 2:07 With manga, that’s one of my concerns. If things go out of print then resellers are going to jack the price up and try to get people to spend 2x or more on the manga. I agree that this community is very welcoming and helpful. I’m not sure how I found this community but I’m glad that I did. 💯 I’ve met and chatted online with lots of great people.
I have all of A Silent Voice and it’s my favorite series I’ve read, so emotional, and it’s a lot more emotional than the movie... the movie was still phenomenal though
Am I the only one who prefers paperback single volumes to all the multi volume and hardcover editions? And not just because of price, I think they look better, feel better, and are much better on shelves. Since I don't plan to run over my volumes, I don't really think I need hardcovers.
I'm just ten but I really like anime and manga I started with one piece, MHA and fairy tail fairy tail = volume 1 to 5 MHA = volume 1 to 12 onepiece= volume 1 13
I currently own : Death note (All volumes in one) Blue exorcist (Volumes 1-5 and the 14th one) I have the 14th one because my public library was handing out books for free to keep. Captain Commando (Complete set, volume 1-2)
i have the first two volumes of demon slayer !! the first volume of ao haru ride and one volume of afterschool charisma ,, im gonna get more for my bday on oct 25 to

@@jaif7327 : From the time that I made that comment, I actually did only start collecting for two months. I had so much One Piece because someone was selling it at a ridiculously cheap price because they didn't know the worth of the series lol. I got 70 volumes for $220 and they are all in perfect condition. It would have costed me $360 so I saves $140 lol
All The Series I'm Collecting (So Far) Kimetsu No Yaiba My Hero Academia Edens Zero Boruto Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest Black Clover And I'm planning to get the box sets of Naruto and Assassination Classroom.
Great tips I've never heard of camel camel camel. I love collecting manga black clover has been one of my favorites lately, I want to start collecting dorehedoro it sounds like an interesting series. Made in abyss manga is one of my favorite series its sooooooo good
Picked up Tokyo Ghoul as my first manga with the Barnes buy 2 get 1 free. I'm on volume 4 and loving it. Already ready Death Note and FMA when I was younger, these are really great tips for someone like myself who might be getting back into it. Definitely going to focus on finishing series before picking up new ones and always looking for those sales!
Great tips! I agree with all of these! I also recommend your local anime conventions! There are garage sale trades where people bring their old anime and manga. You can also find good deals on manga and anime, depending on the seller. I found the out of print Bandai set for Carried by the Wind Tsukikage Ran for $30.
Omg! No one knows the manga MARS! It's one of my faves. I have all 15 volumes from Tokyo pop. I bought them as they where being published forever ago. I'm thrilled you like that one. Thanks for mentioning it!
Yona of the dawn! Ah! Didnt know anyone else who had it on their shelf. I'm a tomboy and I rarely like series aimed at the female demographic but I fell in love! The characters are just so much fun to watch.

I read season 1 of Noblesse but dropped it since. I’m planning to read Tower of God once I catch up on collecting Yona, finish Tokyo Ghoul and I’m planning on starting some other manga like Dr Stone, BNHA, Oyasumi Punpun and possibly Vinland Saga since I recently finished the anime and would like to see where it goes next.

I recently got into collecting manga. I also collect vinyl and pop figures so I really have to balance my purchases. I am currently only buying manga for anime I watched and loved and wanted a look into the longer story of it. I currently have Death Note complete which I used B&N's manga sale for. I'm collecting the Sailor Moon Eternal Edition (need 2 more) and Tokyo Ghoul ( i need 4 more.) Thanks for all the tips, I'm excited to expand my collection!
Always buy sailor moon! Rightstufanime.com get the eternal collection. I think $24 a volume but they put it on sale for like $14-17. Worth it! Volumes 9 and 10 are up for pre-order. I think after that the only volumes left will be the 2 volumes for sailor v.
These are great tips! I am starting to get better at finding things for cheap now hahaha xD I just need to cool it on buying the new stuff so quick at the start!
honestly i agree with all of these tips, however, obviously i can't at the minute, but there's just something i absolutely love about going out to my local forbidden planet and buying manga from there because it's a nice feeling and also they have a deal on 24/7 365 where you can get 3 for 2 and since most manga are about £7 so you can get 3 volumes for £14 which is amazing so you can spend a lot less than necessary but also buy a LOT at the same time. i bought all of 20th century boys for under £100 which is just incredible
I am currently starting to collect Tokyo Ghoul and I really liked the first volume so I bought the 2nd and 3rd and I still liked it so I am buying one Volume Per Month and I now have 11 Volumes of Tokyo Ghoul ^^
You good sir, made an awesome video with tips that are very helpfull :) i’m probably not going to start a very big manga collection, but I do enjoy a good manga ones in a while and these tips will definitely help a lot
My current manga collection: Assassination Classroom: 1 & 2 My Hero Academia: 1 Seven Deadly Sins: 1 Pokémon adventures Diamond and Pearl Platinum: 1 (yes my collection is very small 🥲 I plan on buying more soon)
@@strawhatdac fr the pacing is all different like the first volume is only the first episode of the anime but volume 4 get to episode 8. Furthermore the last third is different
This video is so helpful!! Thank you for these great tips :0. And hell yeah, finally someone who knows Eden: It’s an Endless World :D. It’s probably one of my favorite manga ever!
now that i'm in a bit of a better financial situation i'm slowly starting to build my manga collection. it's still a bit small compared to what i would like to own (because i love a LOT of series), but just knowing that i'm able to finally start collecting makes me so happy.
The bad thing about collecting, is when you first start its. Go GO GO GOGOGO. Then you have hundreds of volumes and you have read maybe 50 volumes and you dont have any money to buy the series you actually like so then you get bored of the hobby or maybe stressed because you feel something will go out of stock so you stop collecting all together. Comic books was that for me so im trying to take manga slow and steady.
Amazing video man, I am just getting into the manga scene and this was really helpful. It also surprises me that you dont really have a larger subscriber count
Hmmm I guess this is a tip, but for new collectors if you are planning on growing your manga making an excel file will help you. It helps you see if you finished collecting it, or what volumes your still missing. There are some youtubers who also do this, one of them that I know of is Himeka
I keep telling myself to not start buying new series before I finish the ones I've started but I go in my bookstore with finding certain volumes in mind but then i find a book I've been wanting for a while and end up buying that because i couldn't find he ones i had in mind when going in the store
A personal tip it would be to buy the editions that contain 2 or 3 volumes in one single book, its the cheaper way if you are a budget manga reader like me
@@gojo6418 there are some mangas that have the 2 in 1 edition too, like deathnote black edition, or kuroko no basket, but yeah, some cool mangas like opm for example have no 3in1 or 2in1 editions so its expensive
I will admit, I read a LOT of manga online. I feel pretty guilty about not supporting the mangakas but if I LOVE it - I buy it. Right now I'm buying Dorohedoro, only have 5 more to go!
I really need to start ordering manga I just buy it usually at Barnes and Nobel or any nearby bookstores and I do like supporting those stores but my wallet 😭
My tip is work at a library for employee discount. God I will be so sad when I leave the library I work at ;w; (this was not a real tip btw, but 30% off is nice so enjoy it while you're there)
