I had been to Mangalore for several years, DK food items are excellent, they know how to stick to their traditional food. Mangalorean are very simple and God fearing, yet broad hearted.
I am a Punjabi and we are used to eating lot more heavy ( unhealthy) food , lot more meat though seeing simplicity of this food brought sort of tears in my eyes ( go figure ) . I love South India and simplicity of it's people . I thought managalore was sort of part of a bigger conglomerate called 'karnatka ' but seeing this food made me realized uniqueness of their food culture . I hope I do get an opportunity to visit India and managalore .
It is not only simple but changes according to the season. Heavier food is also there. But, the variety wise, you can hardly find anywhere else. I love my Mangalore. According to Puranas, this place is Bhagavan Parashuramji ki Shrusti.
You are not Punjabi. We have light dishes too Sangri,Kala Chana,Malai Sabzi You seems to be stupid Delhite who never seen Punjab. I don't know why Delhi people call themselves Punjabi
In India, I have spend a decade of my life in Bengaluru and I must admit that I love Mangaluru food. I always loved Moode, yummy..... I highly recommend
Thanks a lot for visiting Mangalore. It’s my most fav place on earth. I am basically from north Kerala and fell in love with Tulunadu after my work took me to this place. Once a Mangalorean, always a Mangalorean 😍
I hail from Mangalore and I was pleased to watch the video though there wasn’t much in it. One great thing about Mangalore is there are very few beggars in this city. Most beggars are given shelter by privately run institutes for the destitute such as white doves and Snehalaya to name a few. Some beggars don’t agree to go to these institutes because they can make money by begging and there are labourers from some other cities who live by the road and beg to make easy money, too. If you plan to visit again, you should definitely get in touch with a mangalorean who eats all types of cuisines especially seafood as Mangalore has a wide variety. Most are very welcoming and would take you around, too. (I definitely would) Mangalore is the most underrated city in India although it is beautiful and has so much to offer. Mangaloreans (born and raised in Mangalore) are welcoming, fun-loving, helpful, educated, and well-behaved . We do have a lot of outsiders residing here as well. Here is a lenglthy comment to give non-Mangaloreans some insight on places to visit. Mangalore/Mangaluru is a land of exquisite cultures, charms and cuisines. It is an educational hub and has many schools, engineering colleges, medical colleges, hospitals every kilometer ,restaurants, old tiled houses and sea-facing resorts. We have Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains and other religions in this small city celebrating festivals and preparing different cuisines on different occasions. You would come across a lot of beautiful temples, churches, mosques, and so on. As a Mangalorean who has lived in M’lore for more than 30 years and also travelled to different states, I know for a fact that Mangalore has extremely tasty food, albeit, we haven’t gained much popularity. Many aren’t even aware that there is a city called “Mangalore” and confuse it with Bangalore and we have been busy correcting people ever since! Mangalore is famous for its scrumptious breakfast, ice creams, seafood, toddy, non-veg dishes with homemade masalas especially crab ghee roast, chicken ghee roast, squid ghee roast, prawns & fish tawa/masala fry, chicken sukka, chicken fry/grill, pork chili, pork bafat, along with Neer dosa or boiled rice and yes, not to forget the delicious veg dishes, too. Now the famous question is what and where to eat??? Let us begin with breakfast. For typical Mangalorean breakfast, you may visit Shivbagh cafe (go upstairs to stay away from the chaos, new Taj Mahal cafe, Woodland, Chutney Pure Veg Restaurant, Hotel Janatha Deluxe, or ideal cafe to name a few. These are either small or congested restaurants that serve good breakfast. You can try buns, sheera, masala dosa, poori baaji here or something of your choice. For evening tea-time snacks, you can go to any of the aforementioned places again and try goli baje, banana podi, sweet potato podi, etc. For Continental & Italian cuisine/English breakfast, I reckon Diesel Cafe wouldn’t disappoint you. For toddy lovers, Kalivali The Toddy Lounge is the best place situated amidst the coconut trees. A beautiful village you wouldn’t want to miss. For lunch, you may visit Madhuvan's Village restaurant, Shetty lunch home, Maharaja, gajalee, cruise n dine, redrocks, etc. These are restaurants where you can enjoy the ambience and eat/chill for a while. or you can visit places like Machali, Narayana, Macchhi. These are small canteen-like restaurants where you enter, order, eat and leave immediately. Pretty crowded but we can’t resist the yummy seafood. :) I have heard many say that Narayana restaurant food is salty. Apparently, many order meals with fish fry and they end up eating the “crispy fish masala” given along with the fish fry on its own. That is a big NO!!!!!!! You need to mix your crisy fish fry masala with the boiled rice and relish the uniqueness of that masala. That’s how it is done! :) For desserts/ice creams, visit Pabbas , Natural ice creams, Ideals ice cream, Cherry square or Brick house to taste the famous ice cream called “Some like it hot”.( All these ice creams were started by Mangaloreans ) Brick house has some good Lasagna, Alfredo pasta and other dishes, too . For sweets/snacks - google the best rated bakeries. Vas bakery has good egg puffs and are famous in M’lore, Cochin bakery has famous Banana chips and many other crunchy snacks. The Stairway Bakery & Cafe has some yummy cakes. There are lots of places to visit. Google is your friend here. For pet friendly restaurant, you must visit K9Restro. If you love your beer and you are alcohol friendly or want a place to hang out with friends, you may visit ONYX Air Lounge & Kitchen (venue hosts dance nights with DJs), G Lounge, Spindrift, Froth on top , The Liquid lounge, Summer Sands Beach Resort , redrocks etc. If you are craving for some village vibes, visit river roost resort, the estate resort bar and restaurant, or Guthu House pilikula Heritage village. If you are famished and want to grab a quick bite late in the evening, you should try chicken shawarma and the grilled chicken from any of the small restaurants. You will find many across the streets. Best option is take-away or eat in the car. Middle eastern food with Mangalorean touch. You can try mixed-fried rice and biryanis, too. We have good chaat places as well. For a city that is extremely small, we definitely have a lot going on. If you didn’t know, we are affable and most of us speak multiple languages. Many know a minimum of 4 languages which are Tulu, Kannada,English, and Hindi. Konkani and Beary are other languages that are widely spoken in this city. We are very welcoming and our parents would gladly host lunch or dinner for any number of guests. We call it a Mangy thing! :)
Mangaloreans are great hosts. Once you are in Mangalore, every one feels you are his or her own guest. Once you taste Mangalore food, you will be hooked on to it instantly and permanently. I must say, there is no place like Mangalore where you can find such wide variety. Karishma is a good guide. Turmeric leaf sweet is called Patholi. And the bittergourd like pakoda is called Phagila. This is very common in Kolkata. It grows in forest and is called wild bittergourd. Enjoy in Mangalore.
Yes, it is kantola (momordica dioica, करटोली, ककोड़ा). It is not grown in Mangaluru region but got from Odisha, West Bengal region. Actually Konkanis (mainly Goud Saraswat Brahmins, West Bengal was known as gouda desha earlier) introduced it to Mangaluru. Another West Bengal vegetable available in Mangaluru is pointed gourd (trichosanthes dioica, पर्वाल्/परवल्).
@@krishnamk7787 :actually all the south indian brahmins are aryans actually. its called Nordic race or something. south indian brahmin wedding is similar to north indian U.P brahmins wedding. in 16th century or so when muslims were massacring these hindus to convert to muslims, that time many brahmins fled from north to south of India.
Also Mangaloreans are not only proud of speaking in their Mother tongue and proud of speaking HINDI also which is very much unlike other South Indian States .
Hello, I am Norman from Vizag. In my travels and eating food all over the place. Mangalore has/is the best place for Indian food. Because everything is so clean, respectful, fresh, large, very tasty and their ice cream is the best in the whole wide world !!
And one more feature I would like to add here. People are very conscious of hygiene and avoid street side eating. Either they go to a hotel, sit inside and eat or pack a parcel and eat at home.
Karishma, the local person has very good knowledge of the local food. She selected right set of places that serves authentic dishes. Best compliment to the presenter and Karishma...
My ancestors are mangalorean although I’m more a Bangalorean 😁and man the food there in mangalore is awesome I mean the fish curry rice is to die for although the chicken dishes like ghee roast, sungta fry, korri roti are just fab. Love you mangalore.
I agree. The varieties of breakfast shown in this video... have not seen anywhere in Bangalore. The food scene in Mangalore is way better when compared to Bangalore.
@@swastik8718 I think you don't know much abt Bengaluru, u guys, who are outsiders.. don't explore & stay in a same area for the whole life.. and finally comes into bad conclusions of Bengaluru.. Fuckoff..
@@geethahegde1992 Hi Geetha ,Machali hotel is close to Mangalore down town? or another city. After Lock down I would like to visit Mangalore and Bangalore. Language is Konani? greetings from USA.
The most beautiful place in karnataka. Ppl are down to earth. Very friendly. Never show hatred to outsiders. Lovely ppl with still keeping their old culture n tradition. It looks more beautiful in rainy season. Clean city too..It's a land of temples. Ppl are orthodox and God fearing. More luv from Chennai 👍
I don't know if anyone noticed but I found it bit amusing the names of the restaurants where you can find authentic Mangaluru cuisine in Mangalore. 1. New Taj Mahal 2. Ayodhya.
One of the best videos on Karnataka cuisine... I have never been to Mangalore but a big fan of Udupi food Does excellent Justice to the rich food heritage of the state
Have literally lived in M'lore for close to 20 years. Used to stay at Taj Manjarun hotel. Have taken food at Mohini Vilas and Woodlands. Used to roam in the Hampankatta area very frequently. Little did I know of such unique eateries and their exquisite offerings. Of course, hotel Srinivasa Cafe was a place where I used to relish some delicacies. Obviously, I missed some rare fares at M'lore. Like, the Golu Bajji, Buns and the stuffed roti. Wish I visit M'lore once more, only to savour these exquisite delicacies.
I had been to Mangalore once, and I felt it's very clean hotel and food. And open buses awesome experience sitting inside :) . And Mangalorians are soft spoken as well. ☺️
In Mangalore, different languages co-exist and accordingly, the preparation also changes. Hence, different names are there for the same food. Whenever you visit a restaurant, you should know which language/community people it belongs to and you have to be accompanied/guided with/by such person who knows it well. Then, your experience and cherishing of the food you eat will enhance.
The cuisine of tulunadu is very delicious and unique from the rest of karnataka. The culture Mangalore doesn't even match kannada culture. Tulunadu has got its own culture and language
This dangerous thinking of u radical people, wants your own state & get seperated from karnataka..😠😡.. You are getting all the vegetables u eat from Malenadu.. Chaikmagalur.. pray for Malenadu.. if we don't get rain here... U don't get freah water in Mangalore.. idiot
I love Mangaluru and few Vegetarian Restaurants. I lived in Mangaluru for 10 months in 2009-2010 and again for 5 years from 2012 to 2016. Now also I miss Mangaluru and I sincerely feel it was my birth place in previous births. Very nice City and get versatile food items.
I am missing my wonderful Mangaluru. Lovely place, nice people, Fantastic Food. Should be there now but because of this Covid situation stuck abroad. Hopefully we are out of this pandemic soon and get back to a normal life. Lots of love to Manguluru.
Magalorian breakfast is very healthy and good beginning of day. Many items are steamed and only boiled. It's really pleasure to cook them. Unfortunately many of those leaves which are much needed in cooking are available in cities.
I do not think he understands this etiquette. Every video has the same practice of sharing one plate of any dish, and still he doesn't heed the advice of the many viewers who may find it odd. This is one thing which can change, and if a bit more of enthusiasm and expression when you taste the food would be appreciated. You are enjoying the cuisines from all the places you travel for the benefit of the viewers, so make an effort to make the experience of the viewers more exciting and fun to watch. Otherwise the content and information is very good. Thank you
I loved Mangalore and Bangalore. Talking about the former... it seemed to be a really old city ...with some tall buildings having Banks at every corner. It almost felt like wall street . I enjoyed my stay at a Good hotel in Bunder. For a brief stay of 2 days I can say that their food might not be the most delicious one... but undeniably the most healthy one. And I loved the Achal Cashews.
When you are upset anytime watch this episode. Observe the host and ignore Anubhav. My goodness she is so nice and peaceful. God bless her and Anubhav too.
In Odisha it's called enduri pitha especially made on the occasion of "Prathamasthami" which is a festival in ode to the goodness and wellbeing of the first born.
Tajmahal & Ayodhya only showpiece. Interior parts of Mangalore & udupi coast many varieties of foods available at reasonable price and clean. Host is mitabhashi tulunaada bedagi.
I am new here i saw you with FOOD RANGER, you speak very understandable english. Nit to mention your knowledge with indian and other cuisines. Keep up the awsome work my friend. New subscriber
m y memories go back to 1972 when I happened to work for 3 months in Mangalore.I simply enjoyed my stay. The food is so good for health;your skin starts glowing.I wll not miss another opportunity to go there.
All dishes looks very healthy. Once will try to visit there. Thanks for discover authentic foods. i tought you are only RU-vidr who spell everything properly.
Mangalore has a splendid harbor. Fish was reflected. I am looking forward to fish dishes. I enter an ordinary restaurant. Rice pudy is a sweet made with rice. very good! It is delicious as it came out. Sangera is sugar and coconut. Delicious! It looks very sweet and tasty. I would like to eat it. The signboard of Coca-Cola is fresh and fresh. The next restaurant is breakfast. Latti is coconut and rice. It is a food I have not seen. Is it some fruit or leaves? None of this seems to be delicious. It was a full course such as fruit and nuts. It is a natural material, so it looks good for health. It is 9.5 points so I'm very satisfied. It is wonderful. Today 's guest was a lovely woman. Thank you very much. I also fell in love with India a bit.
@Revisionism TV well yes.. price would not be that very expensive.. do visit during November to January otherwise coastal area is humid, since you mentioned Karnataka I think Bangalore, Mysore, Kodagu, Chikmangalore, Shivmoga climate will be good through out the year(according to me).. Sorry I never visited north Karnataka so I have not mentioned those places here, those have their own charm though...
Both Kotte and the Mude are made from Idli batter, but attain different texture and taste quite different. They also absorb smells from the container leaves.
Man, India has such an incredibly staggering variety of Veg. dishes. I had eaten Biscuit rotti, Golli Bajje etc. but many of these other dishes are new to me.
KALTAPPA is also prepared in homes on festivities (I donot know what it is calles in Odia). Especially in villages, the older generation they make it (My grandmother used to make it)and now it is being lost in city lifestyle. You can also find similarity between some Kannada and Odia words.
Biswajit Panda yes bro.Historical exchange of cultures during mediaeval period has led to similarity between different regions.Even you can find some sync of Odia culture with Sinhalese .
@@daredevil4780 Yes of course.. After ASHOKA won the Kalinga war around 270 B.C. and disgusted with war and took to Buddhism and sent his son to sinhala (or Srilanka) from Kalinga to propagate the teachings of Lord Buddha, So of course some form of cultural and food infusion must have happened during the brief period.
Sir, you are doing good with your selections of both states and food guides. Just one suggestion, don’t go through a long list of food items as it makes you rush through a lot of them. Otherwise love from London. I have been a fan of you from long.
PLEASE DO VISIT UDUPI ALSO. YOU ARE DOING FANTASTIC WORK, KEEP IT UP. ALSO MADAM IN THE VIDEO HAS TAKEN YOU TO REALLY AUTHENTIC PLACES IN MANGALORE REGARDS TO YOU, MADAM AND ALL YOUR GREAT TEAM
